An excellent book for every manager seeking an approach to managing conflict. The book is written with the understanding that one can't always resolve conflict. However, a five step process is given which allows for it's successful managing. Through Assessment, Acknowledgement, Attitude, Action and Analysis (5A's) the reader will form a firm base to anticipate and management conflict. The chapters on gender differences, cross-cultural awareness and how writing styles cause conflict are very timely.

Where's the beef?.......2007-07-30

I agree with other reviewers. There is a good section on imaging with CCD cameras but the other sections (Web cams, Digital SLRs) are weak. Not enough detail for the beginner that wants to get out and image. Too many photographs that don't provide substantial educational value. This is a multi-authored book and there is too much variability in the quality of the chapters. I own other books in Patrick Moore's series that I enjoyed, but this is not one of them.

Dissapointing.......2006-07-26

More like a small coffe table book than a comprehensive treatment of the subject. I expected more detail about How To and less glitsey pictures: Book is filled with " Here's a picture of...." and then a nice color photo. I'm returning this one.

Covers a lot of ground.......2006-05-19

Let me start by saying - Do not make this your primary source for information on digital astrophotography. It has a ton of good info for a total beginner like me, but it also leaves out a lot on info.

It has a unique format in that each chapter has a different author (a claimed expert in each field). Some were much better than others. All chapters did a decent job of explaining the process of each kind of technology, but in almost all cases I was left with more questions than answers.

The book did give me a lot of ideas and areas to further research, but I was hoping when I bought it that it would give recommendations for type of equipment to buy and how to use it to get the best results.

BOTTOM LINE -- This book is a great source for info and ideas, just don't assume it will be your only source as it leaves a lot unexplained.

A "Practical Guide" without the "practical".......2000-02-27

To much theory and not enough application. At the end of the book I was still looking for the "practical guide" part. If you want to learn to build a CCD camera this book is for you. If you want to learn how to use one with a telescope, don't waste your money on this book.

This is more of a TECHNICAL GUIDE not a Practical Guide........1999-09-30

This book has many good items in it that help you understand what you should look for in pixcel size and other features. It also goes over the different applications. The key issue is that this is too Technical. I am a Computer Science person, and I found it too technical. I would prefer to see more set up, exposer issues, tracking hardware, tricks and tips. I expected more at a different level with a title that had "Practical" in it.

Instructive, technical and practical approach to CCD cameras.......1999-09-10

A combination of an technical introduction to CCD cameras and their use for astrophotography by the great french amateur. Very detailed description of the construction and operation of CCD cameras and their use in different kinds of astrophotography projects -planetary, photometry., etc. A great book on the subject!!

The only drawbacks I found were a)several too technical, yet incomplete diagrams of the construction and operation of the CCD chip and electronics which did not help in understanding the subject (i.e the clock diagram of a CCD chip); b)the desciption of the CCD camera use in astrophotography is very good, but would have profited from a more graphic approach; and c) I found some of the explanations about the use of the CCD camera repetitive and somewhat obscure.

However don't be disappointed: it's a great book, well worth the price.

A Very good introduction to CCD-Astronomy.......1998-12-16

'A Practical Guide to CCD Astronomy' will really help you get started in this new emerging technology. It gives you all of the information you need to know to get started, and if your a seasoned CCD user, some additional tips to help you make the most of your advanced photography equipment. I Highly recommend this title.

-The purpose of this book is to explain why red-winged blackbirds are polygynous and to describe the effects of this mating system on other aspects of the biology of the species. Polygyny is a mating system in which individual males form long-term mating relationships with more than one female at a time. The authors show that females choose to mate polygynously because there is little cost to sharing male parental care in this species, and because females gain protection against nest predation by nesting near other females. Polygyny has the effect of intensifying sexual selection on males by increasing the variance in mating success among males. For females, polygyny means that they will often share a male's territory with other females during the breeding season and will thus be forced to adapt to frequent female-female interactions. This work reviews the results of many studies by other researchers, as well as presenting the authors' own results. Studies of red-winged blackbirds have ranged from long-term investigations of reproductive success and demography, to research on genetic parentage based on modern molecular methods, to a variety of experimental manipulations of ecological circumstances and behavior. Since the red-winged blackbird is one of the best studied species of any taxa in terms of its behavior and ecology, the authors have a particularly extensive body of results on which to base their conclusions.

Exceptional Memoir.......2005-10-06

Allison Adelle Hedge Coke's childhood and young adult years as recounted in this gritty and courageous memoir, are not only a story or survival but a story of strength. Under the best of circumstances, a mixed blood Cherokee/Huron child looks out at a world where discrimination against Native Americans is the norm. Add to this an insane mother, mental and physical abuse at home as well as in her relationships, rape, alcoholism, drugs, theft, and numerous periods of hospitalization for life-threatening injuries and you have a powerful recipe for disaster. If you are strong, this memoir will test your strength. If you are standing in similar shoes, this memoir will uplift you and provide hope. In the final analysis, the culture that we've placed behind the eight-ball of our misunderstandings was the foundation of A. A. Hedge Coke's strength and her emergence as a survivor. Life and memories endure through stories, and this story is strong medicine.
