Maurice Peloubet's autobiography lends an insight into the thinking of an influential practitioner of the early 20th Century American CPA Profession. Peloubet was Vice President and Treasurer of the American Institute of Accountants [now the AICPA], as well as a National Director of the National Association of Cost Accountants, now the Institute of Management Accountants. He was a driving force in the firm Pogson, Peloubet & Co, whose prestigious New York Stock Exchange mining company clients included Anaconda, Phelps Dodge, Newmont and others. In l963 his firm was merged into Price Waterhouse & Co., now PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

In 1975, Professor Alfred R. Roberts, of Georgia State University discovered the unpublished memoirs of Maurice Peloubet [d. 1976]. Professor Roberts and his colleagues have completed the process of preparing the manuscript for publication. Skillfully edited, this volume details the key role which Peloubet played in many events affecting modern day professionals, including the federal legislation involving inventory techniques. A prolific writer, thoughtful professional, and, on occasion poet, the volume identifies the many works authored by Peloubet during his lengthy and important career.

I'm a bacteriologist getting my Master's. This book is the standard for Micro. From basic microbiology to microbial ecology and even medical micro, this books is great. However, get yourself the INTERNATIONAL EDITION. I have both books. They are exactly the same. Save yourself some cash.

The tradition continues.......2007-04-06

I bought this as a supplement to my research needs as a bioprocess engineering student. Note that I have not used this for a class. As a reference and for background review, I find this book very easy to use. In all my literature review, the older editions of Brock's are the dominating source with regards to textbook references. So in agreement with the profession, I see no reason to overlook this when considering a microbio book.

The book came and it was a hardcover which was great! (I hate softcover books since they get mashed in your bookbag, and dont let it rain, your whole book ruins). The book was as advertised. The only thing I wish it came with was an "A" final grade for Microbiology. :-)

Introduction to world of microorganisms. And it is a whole world with more marvels and revelations than the macro world. The book contains a lot of illustrations, but many of the color photographs are artificially colored and certainly not the newest. They had a lot of work to change the book from two to four colors and one can still see this. Maybe, their newest version: "Brock's Biology of Microorganisms", also available at amazon.com, corrects this. Besides it beeing a propper text book, the main highlights come from nature itself which offers such a vast morphological and functional diversity in the micro world. The chapters range from general cell biology through viruses, genetics, industrial microbiology, immunology, medical topics (diagnostics, epidemics, diseaes) to bacteria and archaea. It's nearly too many topics to have them all statisfactorly presented. But since I knew nothing of those topics at all, the book proofed to be quite benifactory to me.

Just about any parent can relate to a lot of the scenerios in this book. Keepers of the nest contains a variety of things in the life of a parent and childhood. It has entertaining stories,interesting opinions, and clean humorous remarks throughout. I would recommend this book to any parent as a way of knowing there are other parents out there facing the same day to day struggles. This book will at least have the reader smiling and most likely laughing throughout the journey of reading it.
