Ahmed Belkaoui focuses on the contributions human information processing research can make in the study of accounting decision-making. Both a review and synthesis of the current literature and a springboard for further research, Human Information Processing in Accounting explores the basic psychological concepts underlying human decision-making and their applications to accounting. As Belkaoui notes at the outset, accounting information is used primarily for decision-making. Human information processing in accounting is designed to understand, describe, evaluate, and--most importantly--improve the decision process used in an accounting or auditing context. Belkaoui's book provides accounting students and practitioners with the first comprehensive overview of the ways in which human information processing research has been used to study and enhance accounting decision-making. Divided into six parts, the volume begins by examining the policy-capturing process and the Brunswick Lens model used in this type of research. Subsequent chapters address the models of risky choice used to predict or describe how individuals make these types of choices, the application of probability elicitation and revision to accounting research and practice, the heuristics and biases individuals use to reduce complex cognitive processes to simpler judgmental operations, and the application of cognitive science to accounting. A number of chapters include appendices illustrating the type of accounting studies that exist for each of the human information processing paradigms presented. Taken as a whole, Belkaoui's work represents a pioneering attempt to focus and organize the field of human information processing in accounting.

From the author: The Middle Jurassic (Aalenian-Bajocian) shallow marine deposits of Bearreraig Bay, Skye, northwest Scotland, have yielded calcite-permineralized leaves of cycadophytes showing unusually well preserved anatomy. Morphological characters identify the leaves as Nilssonia cf. tenuinervis Seward (Cycadales), Otozamites mortonii sp. nov. (Bennettitales), a putative juvenile leaf showing imbricate, recurved pinnae, and Otozamites sp. Permineralized Jurassic cycadophytes occur in only four other localities worldwide; the better-known coeval adpression flora of Yorkshire lacks anatomical preservation. Past studies of fossil cycadophyte species have therefore emphasized morphology, whereas the Skye specimens reveal details of anatomy greatly exceeding published descriptions of similar species. The arrangement of vascular tissues in the rachis of Otozamites resembles that described for Ptilophyllum cutchense Morris (Bennettitales) from India. Stomata observed in the preserved cuticle of the Nilssonia leaf superficially resemble those of the extant cycad Macrozamia Miquel. Given the 180 million years separating these two genera, and the fragmentary preservation and equivocal phylogenetic position of Nilssonia, comparative interpretations remain tentative. Leaf characters have been little used in phylogenetic analyses, reflecting exaggerated fears of anatomical and morphological convergence; these characters therefore require particular attention when comparing fossil cycadophytes with their living relatives.

Zielinski Portrays a Perfect Modern Novel.......2001-05-25

An excellent novel that outlines the coming of age. The story focuses on three Americans who are by all terms 'fish out of the water' in a foreign country. The backdrop details a self-destructive life of excess; sex, booze, drugs, violence, all these factors inhibit the characters from breaking out of the shell and truly "growing up". The world they live in is a dream for the '20-somes' and seems at times inescapable. Large doses of reality are gradually force-feed through the narative to give the characters the means to break free and come into themselves. The narative free form is first rate, Zielinski is clearly a talented writer. I rival this book with UK author John King's "The Football Factory" - minus the British slang. Highly recommended!

I purchased this book along with "Paella!: Spectacular Rice Dishes From Spain by Penelope Casas". Paella Paella was the convincing winner for me, maybe I was a sucker for cooking books with pictures. Paella Paella has beautiful pictures for most recipes, I have not used the other book since picking up Paella Paella.

I also found Paella Paella to be more authentic, although if you are looking for an authentic Paella Valenciana recipe this book does not include one. Don't let that stop you, there is an even mix of authentic and modern paella recipes along with tapas and sangria delights. Furthermore, the recipes are clear and simple to reproduce.

Well Worth the inclusion into the creative cook's recipe collection. A delight to read through and to cook from.
