Implementing Management Innovations: Lessons Learned from Activity Based Costing in the U.S. Automobile Industry is the result of a long-term study of the implementation of activity based costing (ABC) inside two of America's largest automobile companies. The research advances our theoretical and practical understanding of the implementation of management innovations by tracing the evolution of ABC from the corporate level down to its eventual rollout at the plants. Another distinguishing feature of the study is the blend of field research methods and hypothesis testing to determine the factors that led to implementation success for managers and ABC development teams. Many of the findings of the study have implications for the implementation of other types of management innovations.

Information technology (IT) is changing the entire organizational landscape and human resource management must be in the vanguard of this transformation. I have used this as a text and have found it to be the best available. It is well written and is easily understood by undergraduate students, without talking down to them. Its incorporation of ecology and evolution is particularly important and useful. The examples work well in giving a complete picture. The practical emphasis on how behaviors are studied and measured helps to interest students in research and equip them to evaluate new information.

At last, Short Stories.......2003-06-27

I chanced across this book while looking around Amazon and was intrigued by the title. This was a lucky move as the book is a gem. These are short stories in the best tradition of the genre. Although I have a preference for "literary" novels and writing there is a great deal to be said for an author who has his characters just walk through a door rather than a metaphor. The stories are about some of the basic events in a life with special emphasis on Alcoholic Anonymous and are told in a clean, concise way that lets the reader feel the impact of something serious that came out of ordinary events in ordinary lives. Having given up reading short stories after several encounters with those in The New Yorker my faith is restored. I just ordered 10 more to give to friends
