5 out of 5 stars Essential part of executive coaching.......2006-07-25

I work with executives and entreprenuers to experience maximum performance, career success and abundant life through continuous assessment, alignment and action steps that help them explore, educate and employ their gifts, passions and calling based on purpose-centered, whole-life planning. Leading Talents, Leading Teams not only provides insight into how people work best, but also develop effective leadership teams. Brian Ray, Founder, Primus Consulting

5 out of 5 stars Hard hitting personal Leadership growth strategies.......2003-07-29

This book is fantastic!!! It has shone a new light on my struggles... with pinpoint accuracy. Detailed work is the most
challenging for me. As a result of this insightful book - I repeat the "engaging" persons mantra often - "Focus, focus, focus" "No, No, No" & "Prioritise, Prioritise, Prioritise".

It has also provided me the best framework / paradigm I have yet to come across on leadership (accomplish the mission and look
    after the people).

                              Book Description

New strategies and techniques for today's fast-paced discovery process
Today, the pressure is on for high-throughput approaches to accelerate the generation, identification, and optimization of molecules with desirable drug properties. As traditional methods of analysis become antiquated, new analytical strategies and techniques are necessary to meet sample throughput requirements and manpower constraints. Among them, mass spectrometry has grown to be a front-line tool throughout drug discovery.
Integrated Strategies for Drug Discovery Using Mass Spectrometry provides a thorough review of current analytical approaches, industry practices, and strategies in drug discovery. The topics represent current industry benchmarks in specific drug discovery activities that deal with proteomics, biomarker discovery, metabonomic approaches for toxicity screening, lead identification, compound libraries, quantitative bioanalytical support, biotransformation, reactive metabolite characterization, lead optimization, pharmaceutical property profiling, sample preparation strategies, and automation.

                                  Book Description

This first overview of mass spectrometry-based pharmaceutical analysis is the key to improved high-throughput drug screening, rational drug design and analysis of multiple ligand-target interactions. The ready reference opens with a general introduction to the use of mass spectrometry in pharmaceutical screening, followed by a detailed description of recently developed analytical systems for use in the pharmaceutical laboratory.
Applications range from simple binding assays to complex screens of biological activity and systems containing multiple targets or ligands -- all highly relevant techniques in the early stages in drug discovery, from target characterization to hit and lead finding.

                                      Book Description

Handbook of Methods in Aquatic Microbial Ecology is the first comprehensive compilation of 85 fundamental methods in modern aquatic microbial ecology. Each method is presented in a detailed, step-by-step format that allows readers to adopt new methods with little difficulty. The methods represent the state of the art, and many have become standard procedures in microbial research and environmental assessment. The book also presents practical advice on how to apply the methods. It will be an indispensable reference for marine and freshwater research laboratories, environmental assessment laboratories, and industrial research labs concerned with microbial measurements in water.

What a ride! Handbook of Methods in Aquatic Microbial Ecology by Paul F. Kemp, et al is the only book on Acuatic Microbial Ecology you will ever need. Folks: case closed. From the introduction on topiary dislocution to the guts of the nanophylum discussion-- Paul F. Kemp grabs your attention and holds it like a boa constrictor, or like a sentient glue creature, or like a bear trap.

                                      *A bear trap.*

The book puts to rest the myth that an expert textbook cannot be as compelling as a clandestine extra-marital affair, or a Hollywood action movie.

                                      Folks: a Hollywood. Action. Movie.

Handbook of Methods in Aquatic Microbial Ecology: Superb!

                                        Book Description

Jimmer's Day in the Life: A tiny novel of Korea and Japan is a hilarious, fast-paced romp through the wacky world of English teachers, their students, and an oddball cast of foreigners and locals who make their home in the Far East. During a long summer weekend, three English instructors living in Korea set sail for Japan to get a much-coveted teaching visa. On the way, these voyagers make music on Pusan, South Korea's notorious Texas Street -- a haven for bar girls, Russian sailors, and salarymen -- go searching for love in Fukuoka's Tenjin nightlife district with an eclectic group of international Olympic swimmers, and struggle to find some cultural common ground with their hosts in both countries. More than just a road trip novel, the author also explores the tragic and interconnected history of Korea and Japan, co-hosts for the 2002 FIFA World Cup soccer games. Ride along for the laughs, armchair cultural and historical insights, and adventures aplenty in this whimsical, whirlwind tour through two of the oldest and most fascinating countries in the Orient.

2 out of 5 stars Ugly American Story.......2003-10-21

I purchased this book hoping to get a good description of life as an English Teacher in Korea. What I got was a short novel describing 3 teachers going to Japan to get drunk.

There were a few points where the narrator drops the analogies (most of which are stolen from bad westerns or dime store detective novels) and the constant references to Beetle's music, and starts to go into the history between Korea and Japan. Those few passages are well written and very informative.

However, as a whole, this book is a good example of the kind of behavior from tourists (and expats) that perpetuates those Ugly American stories.

4 out of 5 stars An interesting little story.......2002-07-24

As you can see by my four star rating I found this little novel highly entertaining. It is an easy and enjoyable read that has its moments where I laughed, learned something and was made to stop and ponder. One of the most important items in the pro column is that the book reads as though you were sitting down with the narrator in a comfortable little pub over your favourite beverage listening to him tell of a few days out of the life of a group of English Teachers in Korea on a weekend trip to Japan. Along the way the are a few asides that if nothing else serve as an interesting primer with a unique perspective for anyone at all interested in modern day Korea and Japan. And, if you're just looking for a good little travel story to read then the book certainly fits that bill too. Give it a look over, I think you won't regret it.

4 out of 5 stars Not a typical day in the life.......2002-07-22

"Day in the Life" gives a sneak peak into the not so typical lives of vagabond English teachers living and travelling in the Far East. With compelling insights from the past, present and possible futures of neighboring countries, Korea & Japan and a bit of Beatles' nostalgia thrown in, the author shows that he has really done his homework on life in Asia. He brings us into his unique world of strange locales and oddball characters that inhabit a place that is very different from the West. Both funny and insightful, this book is well worth a look.
