Significant Current Issues in International Taxation

Book Description

Multinational corporations face different tax systems in different countries that require careful tax planning. A systematic approach is needed to minimize and avoid unnecessary business taxes. Some core issues of international taxation are part of a successful corporate tax plan in an international context. The first issue is a good understanding and appreciation of the principles of international taxation that include the different philosophies of taxation, the different kinds of taxes, the different tax systems, the different tax treaties and potential tax havens. The second issue is a thorough understanding of U.S. taxation of foreign income to avoid double taxation and the computation of foreign tax credits. The third issue is the choice of a transfer pricing method and the compliance with tax regulations on both the transfer of tangible and intangible assets. The fourth issue is the intelligent use of tax vehicles for exporting which can generate substantial savings and reduce the effective tax rate and involve the choice between the interest-charge domestic international sales corporation and the foreign sales corporation. A final issue is the efficient use of value-added taxation for activities taking place outside the U.S., and a new appreciation of the potential of this form of taxation for the United States. Dr Camp is an Interviewing Genius.......2003-11-16

I read with great interest Dr Camp's insightful (yet practical) strategies for effective interviewing. After reading this book, I applied the principles discussed in the book for my law firm -with tremendous success I might add. Those attorneys hired with Dr. Camp's techniques are among the best and most productive attorneys in our firm. I recommend this book without reservation to anyone in the position of hiring high level employees. It is the "bible" for interviewers. I can't wait for Dr Camp's next edition.

How to complicate something simple.......2003-06-26

I read the complete book hoping to get to the section that would make it worth while. Never got there.The authors manage to make an interesting subject boooooring, and their language becomes at times needlessly complicated. Example: why not call competencies by another name instead of confusing it with competenccy requirements, and having to overexplain the differences between the two?
Like most books, it provides issues to be learned, and I learned; but there are many other attractive, interesting, and more informatiave options.

Project
of decoding of 'The Stormer Effect'

The phenomenon is described by C.Stormer in his
work 'The
Problem of Aurora Borealis' in the chapter
entitled 'The
Echo of Short Waves, Which Comes Back in Many Seconds
After
The Main Signal'.

In 1928 the radio- engineer Jorgen Hals from Bigder
near Oslo
informed C.Stormer about an odd radio echo received 3
seconds after the cessation of the main signal;
besides, an
ordinary echo encircling the Earth within 1/7 of a
second
was received.

In July Prof. Stormer spoke to Dr. Van-der-Paul in
Andhoven
and they decided to carry out experiments in autumn
and send
telegraphic signals in the form of undamped waves
every 20
seconds three dashes one after the other. On 11

October 1928
between 15.30 and 16.00, C.Stormer heard an
echo 'beyond any
doubt'; the signals lasted for 1,5- 2 seconds on
undamped
waves 31,4 meters long.

Stormer and Hals recorded the intervals between the
main
signal and the mysterious echo:
1) 15, 9, 4, 8, 13, 8, 12, 10, 9, 5, 8, 7, 6
2) 12, 14, 14, 12, 8
3) 12, 5, 8
4) 12, 8, 5, 14, 14, 15, 12, 7, 5.5, 13, 8, 8, 8, 13,
9,10,7,14,6,9,5

Atmospheric disturbances were insignificant at that
time.
The frequency of echoes was equal to that of the main
signal. C.Stormer explained the nature of echoes by
reflection of radio waves from layers of particles
ionised
by the Sun. But!

The Professor of the Stenford Electrotechnical
University
R.Bracewell suggested possibility of informational
communication through space probes between more or less
developed civilisations in space. From that point of
view
the information about decoding of Stormer series can be
found in following journals:

'Smena' No.2 Moscow 1966 , 'Astronautics and
Aeronautics'
No.5 USA 1973, 'Technika Molodezi' No.4 1974 and No.5
1977
Moscow, etc.

The author of this work offers the following decoding:

the numbers in the series be replaced for chemical
symbols
of elements with corresponding nuclear charges:

It is easy to see that the second series is repeated

at the
beginning of the forth series with the only difference
that
in the forth series silicon is alloyed with boron and
phosphorus, i.e. 'p-n transition' of a diode is
created. The
third series describes receipt of pure boron through
action
on boron anhydrite by magnesium:
B2O3 and Mg = B ...

The author of the above hypothesis wrote his degree
paper on
silicon carbide light-emitting diode, that is why the
ending of the forth series is the most simple- it is a
modern light-emitting diode. Silicon carbide is
alloyed with
nitrogen and boron with 'some participation' of
fluorine.
Approximately the same way diamond is alloyed with
participation of fluorine in laboratories of 'other
civilisations', as can be seen at the ending of the
first
series. In the middle of the forth series corundum,
the base
of ruby, is also alloyed with boron, nitrogen and
fluorine.
In the fifth series simply fluorine is educed as a
useful
but very aggressive gas. Inert neon seems to divide
optoelectronic devices.

In conclusion, some repeated applications should be
noticed:
fluorine favours in a way either diffusion of boron or
electronic processes in forbidden zones of diamond,
silicon
carbamide; for some reason magnesium contacts are used.

In 1928 semi-conductor devices were not in use on
Earth.
It was made in Leningrad,1978.

Nice pictures, lightweight text.......2003-07-18

This short book offers a non-technical introduction to the question of finding life beyond the Earth. Chapters review the basics of our solar system and others (concluding that there is nothing special about ours), the probability of life elsewhere, scientific searches for extraterrestrial life and intelligence, and, very briefly, interstellar flight. There is a heavy emphasis on full page visual images, many of them artists' conceptions. I would rank the book one star higher if it did not claim that Io is Jupiter's largest moon, a glaring error.

I am a divorced mom and have two kids. My ex and I had a terrible time communicating after the divorce and I could tell that my kids were really suffering as a result. I decided to buy this kit and things have improved dramatically. First of all, when the item arrived, my daughter's eyes lit up when she saw the calendar and the stickers. She ran off to her room to put it together and raced out when she was finished to show me the schedule she has with me and my ex. It was one of the first times since the divorce that I had really seen her happy, so I felt like this product had shined some light into her life again. Then I decided to start using the Mom and Dad Pad to communicate with my ex. I was skeptical at first that it would make any difference, but it did. I can say, without a doubt, it helped more than all the therapy sessions we had that we spent a small fortune on. It's an easy thing to use. It just seemed to help us be more civil to each other. The books have been great too.

Best thing to buy if you're getting divorced and have kids.......2001-11-04

If you are getting divorced and have kids or you know someone going through a divorce, this is one of the best products on the market. Do yourself a favor and buy it! There are lots of books for people and kids dealing with divorces, but there are very few products which actually help people cope with divorces. This kit contains a calendar plus stickers (mom stickers, dad stickers, holidays, etc.)so you and your kids can actually see their schedules. It's an incredibly helpful tool that gives kids structure, something they desparately need when they're getting divorced. The kit also contains a great communication pad for parents---an easy-to-use fill-in-the-blank form that makes writing to an ex a much easier task. And it makes an automatic copy for your files. Then there are two books, one for parents, and one for kids, that help you with LOTS of issues commonly dealt with in divorces. The nice thing is that there's lots of information packed into a small book, but it's not overwhelming.

After Peggy Edwards, Miroslava Lhotsky, and Judy Turner published their highly successful first book, The Healthy Boomer: A No-Nonsense Guide to Midlife Health for Women and Men, they embarked on a series of workshops with health professionals and men and women in midlife.
