Good, but..........2007-09-14

The book is chock full of useful information. Some is common sense, some not so common. However, it contains little about dealing with the Internet and communicating by email about credit. Moreover, as a man, I didn't appreciate the book's strong tilt toward women. Throughout, the author uses female pronouns and in places villainizes men. No advice for a man whose ex-wife has cleaned him out.

We used the information outlined in this book and it worked great. We had an old credit issue that dogged us for years. With this credit advise, we were able to deal effectively with AmEx and get incorrect charge-offs against our credit removed. This information is powerful and valuable. We recommend it.

This book is extremely well written!.......2001-12-05

This book truely answered all of my questions about credit and then went into suggestions that I could understand and implement. My credit is now perfect with a credit score of over 750. You will learn that scores over 700 are considered "A" credit. You will also see the importance of paying off high interest debt first. It sounds so simple but many people, like myself, were paying more on our mortgage while still carrying a credit card balance. This book has changed my family into knowledgable consumers. We are now debt free and I would strongly recommend it to anyone- and no, I don't know the author.

A Good Read.......2001-11-15

A could credit counselling book since: tells you how to budget, where you stand credit-wise, and even suggests bankruptcy (as a last resort). Worth the cost! Common sense is not so common.

Crossing the Gen X Gap.......2001-09-13

As a senior baby boomer in a business where the energy of youth has great value, I have gone from wizard, to young turk, to careful planner, and finally to grandfatherly adviser. All in far too few years. It has become crystal clear to me that if I wish to help out and sometimes provide guidance I am going to have to learn how to communicate with a group of people who sometimes make me feel like I am speaking a foreign language, the dreaded Generation Xers.

Not that they are all that dreaded. But there is no question that there is a real difference both in values and in approach to work. When I happened on the small, to the point volume of advice it occurred to me that this might be just what I was looking for - a Rosetta stone that would enable communication and understanding without making somebody have to go through a major adaptation. I like Xers, to be honest, I was enough of a rebel in my day to appreciate anyone that challenges the status quo and wants to find better, less hidebound way of doing things.

Bruce Tulgan's approach it quintessentially straightforward. He provides history, motivation, and basic principles of operation for Generation X folks as well as a host of short case studies on what to do and what not to do. He defines many keys to communication with Xers that I have begun to apply at work with some surprising success. The following is a short sample:

Xers are looking for opportunities to develop skills that will help them to grow.
Xers are extremely comfortable with using information and technology.
Xers feel job security is impossible to maintain and are wary of institutions that can fail.
Xers are independent and self-reliant and like to be able to rely on their own skills and abilities.
Xers want rapid feedback to measure their return on investment.
Xers like to form long-term work relationships with those who can help them.

I wish there was a bit more meat to the book, but the truth is that there is plenty of wisdom in it's pages. I think of it as the kind of back pocket reference book that you can grab whenever you're trying to figure out an approach. And it's just the right size to keep hidden if you don't want anyone else to discover your secrets. All kidding aside, this is a useful tool in a changing work place, one that can make the difference between accomplishment and frustration.

This is the book for all Gen X and Gen Y(or Millennial Generation) to give to their road-block, speed-bump Boomer bosses. It is an excellent, on target assessment of our generation and the severe differences from the Baby-Boomers. If your company is having turnover problems with the X and Y age groups, this book is a must. If you're a manager and still using a typewriter when a computer is available, buy this book to find out why everybody around you goes nuts. One word of warning for Gen X readers - this book is so frustratingly accurate about Baby-Boomers it will make your blood pressure go up. Especially, if you are like me, Gen X with no one above you management-wise but Boomers.

Nanowires, nanobelts, nanoribbons, nanorods ..., are a new class of quasi-one-dimensional materials that have been attracting a great research interest in the last few years. These non-carbon based materials have been demonstrated to exhibit superior electrical, optical, mechanical and thermal properties, and can be used as fundamental building blocks for nano-scale science and technology, ranging from chemical and biological sensors, field effect transistors to logic circuits. Nanocircuits built using semiconductor nanowires demonstrated were declared a "breakthrough in science" by Science magazine in 2001. Nature magazine recently published a report claiming that "Nanowires, nanorods, nanowhiskers, it does not matter what you call them, they are the hottest property in nanotechnology" (Nature, 419 (2002) 553). There is no doubt that nanowire based quasi-one-dimensional materials will the new focal point of research in the next decades. This two volume reference, Nanowires and Nanobelts: Materials, Properties and Devices, provides a comprehensive introduction to the field and reviews the current state of the research.
Volume 1, Metal and Semiconductor Nanowires covers a wide range of materials systems, from noble metals (such as Au, Ag, Cu), single element semiconductors (such as Si and Ge), compound semiconductors (such as InP, CdS and GaAs as well as heterostructures), nitrides (such as GaN and Si3N4) to carbides (such as SiC). The objective of this volume is to cover the synthesis, properties and device applications of nanowires based on metal and semiconductor materials. The volume starts with a review on novel electronic and optical nanodevices, nanosensors and logic circuits that have been built using individual nanowires as building blocks. Then, the theoretical background for electrical properties and mechanical properties of nanowires is given. Volume 2, Nanowires and Nanobelts of Functional Materials covers a wide range of materials systems, from functional oxides (such as ZnO, SnO2, and In2O3), structural ceramics (such as MgO, SiO2 and Al2O3), composite materials (such as Si-Ge, SiC- SiO2), to polymers. This volume focuses on the synthesis, properties and applications of nanowires and nanobelts based on functional materials. Novel devices and applications made from functional oxide nanowires and nanobelts will be presented first, showing their unique properties and applications. The majority of the text will be devoted to the synthesis and properties of nanowires and nanobelts of functional oxides. Finally, sulphide nanowires, composite nanowires and polymer nanowires will be covered.

I would like this book more if the price wasn't so high. I can find most of the papers cited in this book online, but this book makes searches go much faster.
