The People Principle: A Revolutionary Redefinition of Leadership
Ron Willingham Manufacturer: St. Martin's Griffin ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0312244908 |
Book Description
In the last decade, billions of dollars have been spent on process improvement and reorganization, most of which generally failed to achieve the desired increases in productivity. Sadly, the result was fear, distrust, paranoia, and low employee and manager morale.Business's greatest blunder of the last decade has been the belief, backed by billions of dollars invested, that technology and organizational strategies would solve the problem of flat productivity. They didn't!The reason is painfully simple. Those strategies overlooked the most basic factor in success: the productive potential of people. Processes and organizational strategies don't produce, people do. But they only do it in the right environment, with positive leadership. The People Principle brings this powerful, simple, clear message to you, along with ways to lead people that promote creativity and high productivity. In this book you'll learn:* Why 80 percent of your people are performing far below their capabilities right now, and what to do about it* How to create an environment in which people perform their best* How to foster high achievement drive and motivation in your people* Why ethical, value-driven behaviors are good for businessWhether you manage two people ot two thousand, in a cottage industry or a Fortune 500 company, Ron Willingham's book will help you maximize your employees' productivity and, in doing so, boost your career and your company's bottom line.Customer Reviews:

It's people, not technology, that increase productivity.......2006-03-04
Get it, read it, share it, live it!!! Worth Every penny!.......2001-10-04
This should be required reading for everyone no matter what your position. This isn't only for managers, but for those that feel they aren't managers or leaders. It helps you learn how to get the most from not only others, but yourself for that is where true learning starts.
A friend of mine gave me this book not because he feels I need help, but because he respects me as a person. It is one of the few books I don't just gobble up in a night. I have to slowly read a chapter or few pages, then digest what I read before going back for more. I haven't finished the book yet. I am too busy digesting what I have read so far. I am giving copies to my family, my boss, and the ceo of our company of 40k+ employees out of respect.
If you get only one book on leadership and people, get this one!
Most important book on management/leadership in a long time!.......2000-06-11

The First Decadal Review of the Edgeworth-Kuiper Belt
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1402017812 |
Book Description
A decade after the confirmation of the Kuiper Belt's existence, 80 of the world's experts gathered in Chile to review what has been learned since 1992. This record of the meeting is enhanced by several specially solicited papers covering additional material not presented at the conference. The volume includes papers on the dynamics of the trans-Neptunian region, the results of deep surveys for the new objects and the evidence for an outer Edge to the Edgeworth-Kuiper belt. Physical observations of many objects are described and attempts are made to bring these data into some coherent picture of the distant solar system. The interior physics of these distant, icy objects, and the link between the Kuiper Belt and dust disks around other stars are also considered. Of particular interest is a set of papers on how the surfaces of distant asteroids are affected by various types of radiation, an area crucial to the interpretation of data being collected by large ground based telescopes.

A Student's Guide to Fourier Transforms: With Applications in Physics and Engineering
J. F. James Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0521468299 |
Book Description
Telecommunications, acoustics and computer science. In the final chapter, particular attention is paid to the fast Fourier transform. Throughout, discussion of these applications is reinforced by the inclusion of many worked examples. Assuming no previous knowledge of the subject, this book will be invaluable to students of physics, electrical and electronic engineering and computer science.Download Description
Fourier transform theory is of central importance in a vast range of applications in physical science, engineering, and applied mathematics. This new edition of a successful student text provides a concise introduction to the theory and practice of Fourier transforms, using qualitative arguments wherever possible and avoiding unnecessary mathematics. After a brief description of the basic ideas and theorems, the power of the technique is then illustrated by referring to particular applications in optics, spectroscopy, electronics and telecommunications. The rarely discussed but important field of multi-dimensional Fourier theory is covered, including a description of computer-aided tomography (CAT-scanning). The final chapter discusses digital methods, with particular attention to the fast Fourier transform. Throughout, discussion of these applications is reinforced by the inclusion of worked examples. The book assumes no previous knowledge of the subject, and will be invaluable to students of physics, electrical and electronic engineering, and computer science.Customer Reviews:
Great.......2007-05-12
Does not review all the sampling methods.......2006-03-02
A five-star book.......2002-03-29
to play with. Compared with other more expensive, weightier
books apparently written to make the subject as obscure as
possible, James's book is a delightful concise 128 page read. The
reader should gain an intuitive feel for many of the important
properties of the FT which will help greatly before tackling
more in-depth treatments. I think it is much better value for
money than many maths books on offer. Those wishing for the
most complicated explanation of Fourier transforms possible,
with no diagrams, applications or humour could try the book
by G.H.Hardy instead.
Assumes too much from the readers.......2000-11-05
Not enough detail.......1999-10-28
