HRD in the strategy fast lane.......1999-06-07

I was skeptical that a single book could really lay out a detailed plan for transitioning the training function to a strategic role in the organization. I was quickly proven wrong. I attended Jim's workshop at the ASTD conference and was amazed. The book simply lays out the roadmap for transfoming the cost controlled training function to a vaital and strategic part of the business. The whole plan and approach is in the book! I have begun to apply the plan with great success. I would recommend the book to any trainer or manager who is tired of having to justify their budget or their existance.

At last - practical help for performance consultants.......1999-04-03

I have been struggling to do performance consulting in my organization for two years. I read other books that explained performance consulting, but were no help in dealing with the political realities of getting permission to do the work. This book had all the answers to my nagging questions. I wish it was available a couple of years ago. The section on transforming training requests into permission to improve performance was great. I am having completely different discussions with my clients and manager now. Following the advice and plan in the book, I'm working to become the manager of performance consulting for my company.

I got my copy of this book at the ISPI Conference. I have seen Jim Fuller speak at several conferences and the guy knows performance consulting. His experience shows in this book. Other books talk about what performance consulting is. This book tells you how to get it done in an organization. Very practical book that every trainer who wants to be employed two years from now should read.

From the supplier: Training is a key factor in improving fee income performance of banking institutions. Bank employees should be knowledgeable about their bank's fee income objectives as well as how to answer customer complaints about service charges and other related matters. Fee income training is not given proper attention in the majority of banks because of its doubtful effect on profitability. Despite these reservations, fee income training should have two main thrusts. First, the training should dispel the myths that only high-balance customers are profitable and that low-price checking accounts bring in fraudulent customers. Second, the bank should realize that organizational changes must be made in its structure for fee income to improve. Bank training officers should identify the processes and materials needed for fee income training.

Recent scientific discoveries as seen by the Times.......2002-02-01

This is something of a history of recent astronomy as related in the Times. The oldest story is Walter Sullivan's report on the discovery of the cosmic background radiation in 1965. Most of the others, though, are from the eighties and nineties. The coverage is divided into sections: new telescopes and new technology, planetary exploration, potential life on Mars, extrasolar planets, the life of stars, black holes, missing mass, the new cosmology, the age of the universe, the fate of the universe, looking for ET, and theories of everything. Each section has a half-dozen or so breaking stories on related topics, which gives the text a greater sense of immediacy than the usual explanatory text.

Not only are these good stories in their own right, but they're also excellent examples of good science writing. (One of the physicists involved with the discovery of the CMBR even told Sullivan that he didn't understand the significance of his finding until he read his article.) The only weaknesses are the diagrams, which sometimes verge on being too small to read, and the episodic nature of the text, with each article being relatively self-contained, rather than being one chapter in an explanatory book. But these are minor complaints about an overall excellent book.

Apart from hinting that this book is more expensive than I had expected, there is no negative comment I have for it.
It is a well-defined lab manual, which will be useful for both students and investigative scientists. The book covered all aspect of microbiology: including related parasitology topics.
It explained various methods used in the identification and classification of all types of microorganisms. High-level undergraduates should appreciate the directives it gave concerning culture-media preparation, as well as sequential isolation of bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, and microscopic algae. The same applies to its handling of general microscopy: including the advantages and disadvantages of each type of microscope. This is a very fine companion, which discussed every technique and precaution used in contemporary microbiology lab.

La microbiología es la rama de la biología más interesante, conocer el metabolismo y forma de vida de las bacterias va más halla de lo que uno puede imaginar, cada una tiene su propio nombre y caracteristicas que las distinguen unas de otras. A mi parecer las enterobacterias es lo más emocionante que puede existir en esta área, su identificación es una tarea entretenida y muy emocionante. La microbiología es lo máximo.

Reading this bromidic flibbertigibbet reminded me of my harrowing experiences in the Navy except, in this case, I just couldn't seem to get past Chapter 1. Anyway, it's all over and I feel much better now.

Tacos?.......2005-06-17

I just sat down to read a book that is not "Son of Orbiting Death Ray Platform" and, can I just say, it is NOT "Son of Orbiting Death Ray Platform". This book is about some rockstars or rich kids with not enough money or too much time and not enough taco seasoning - very disappointing. Truth be told, I knew going into it that it was not "Son of Orbiting Death Ray Platform" and really I've been served the dish of fudge that I ordered. I made my own platform, now I've got to sleep under it's looming shadow. I tried to run out on not "Son of Orbiting Death Ray Platfrom", but was caught on account of all the tacos; that IS a lot of gas, you know. Had I known now what I knew then, I don't think I would have ever put this book in my dishwasher. I think that really says it all. It really is a penultimate read.

Truly inspiring Dr. Heildmon's book has brought new meaning to the lack of altruism and fortitude in the world. He has created a book that acts as a beacon for the righteous. Its bright light shining through his honest love for humanity blatently seen in the satire laden pages. My life is enriched for having not just read this book but experienced it. Thank you Dr. Heildmon, you are a true saint.

This book asks the question that everyone wants to know, but is too iron deficient to ask: Wanna buy a fish? The answer: an undeniable 10 bucks. Mask or no mask, you will have no choice but to cut your hair, AND with scissors, once you've learned the secrets this tome of "agno" wisdom holds. A grat read! You won't leave your porch for minutes!

Vampire? Vampirest!.......2005-05-17

There I was, looking for a good book with vampires, and Dr. Heildmon's "Son of Orbiting Death-Ray Platform" jumped off the shelf. It landed squarely in the face of a Vampire that was sneaking up on me for the biting, knocking him down into some sunlight that Sol had spilled earlier (and didn't clean up). With the disolving! The book had saved my life, so I read it and discovered an important lesson: don't go to the bookstore with a vampire. Sure they may know a lot about literature, but there's the biting.
