Similarly, essential to the creation of an economic order is economic development. Riahi-Belkaoui explicates the relationship between accounting and economic order and between that and the determinants of accounting development. He then studies the relationship between accounting and economic development, and between their respective determinants. Best Book on Training for ALL readers.......2005-02-07

I'm a sales manager who needs to do some training not an HR guy. If I had a dime for every book I have ordered, read or borrowed and then thrown out, I'd be rich!

Most of them are either too boring or too philisophical or too academic and they all seem to be written for the training professional in the same unrealistic way.

This book cuts right to the chase and just gives me the practical tangible stuff I need right now. There's no lecturing or tons of background theory. My people appreciate it too. After reading a few chapters I passed it along to the busiest guy who never has time for training and always makes a reason not to go--or grumbles terribly when he finally is forced to attend.

His response: "If a trainer actually made something to fit what they tell him to do I would love it! I'd even promise to go willingly!"

I passed it along to our training manager and can't wait to see the results.

Finally, some fresh air and fresh ideas!.......2005-02-03

Most elearning books, training books for that matter, seem to reiterate the same stale advice. The guidance is very useful the first few times you hear it. Once its repeated with slight modification the 15th time it just makes me wonder why anyone pays to hear it.

Not so with this refreshing book. Where else do you hear authors who encourage you to question them and their advice? This is the strongest point in the book, noted especially in the chapter on Reflective Thinking.

The writers urge readers to adopt a new paradigm, one in which learning can really happen, reflective inquiry. They tell us to view every solution, every piece of advice, every institution through the questioning eyes.

Do not, they say, simply take it as a given that something has to be a certain way because it has always been that way. Dare to question it, dare to re-evaluate if it still works. In other words, dare to "find your own path" instead of adopting anothers.

Far from being some namby-pamby self-help guide, this theme is communicated through very tangible advice that is rarely seen in the elearning world. Everything from a chapter on the need to understand we are in a new economy ("The Creative Economy") to the basics of using drama to capture attention and drive long lasting learning to doing down n' dirty realistic research to get the job done fast.

This is a refreshing new spin on problem solving, which is what elearning is really doing. In contrast to other authors who say "Think outside the box to find new solutions to established problems" they say, find new problems! A great example is cited as the man who created post it notes, as we all know. The glue for post-it notes was created at least 10 years before its use. The problem at that point was how to create a strong glue. It was only when another man came up with an entirely different problem, how to have glue so non-sticky it was removable, that post it notes came to be.

I could talk for longer about the rest of the high quality and novel content but I think I have covered one of the biggest assets of this book and the reason why everyone, yes everyone should own it.

The Third Part of the Fist Saga..........2001-09-17

This book continues from where Night of the Jackal left off. Kenshiro has made it his business to team up with Ray to defend a village in which vegetation grows and water is plentiful. You may remember Raoh the Conqueror easily defeating an opponent who lead an army of berzerkers in wolf-skins and could change his body into solid iron. Well, he's the main foe of this chapter in the Fist of the North Star.

Realizing he and his army of berzerkers stand no chance he decides to hurt them where they are defensless--their families. Luckily, Kenshiro has no family but Ray does--his long lost sister, the object of his quest. The story leaves off with the berserker leader forcing Kenshiro and Ray into battle.

That's probably the most annoying factor in buying this book--you have to buy anothe rone to see how the story ends. You'll want to buy Blood Brothers, the fourth Fist book, to see how the story ends. But, this is a really cool story and any Fist of the North Star fan will want to buy this book. I recommend this or any othe rFist of the North Star book to fans of the anime or fans of the martial arts genre who don't mind seeing blood. The story is probably the best of the Fist of the North Star books as Ken finally meets an opponent worthy of him in Ray. This has something the other Fist books lack and that's a true challenge for the protagonist.

Awesome fighting techniques!.......2000-04-07

Two of the best fighters in the world: one can explode body parts, and other can slice the foes in pieces. The fights are very impressive! I can't wait to read the continuation of this saga!

Richly Descriptive Period Piece........2007-07-30

This book has most everything you would want in a period piece. It contains unique richly developed characters, intrigue, humor, & a deep plot. The sights, sounds, smells, & ambiance of 16th century Venice are almost lifelike. There is a fine mingling of social mores & politics that leads to many types of betrayal that keep the reader guessing. The author tells Fiammetta's story through the eyes of Bucino, a clever dwarf who shares her lodgings. He eventually will be the main character. The story begins in 1527 with the sacking of Rome. Fiammetta, is ravaged by the invaders & flees the city with Bucino{a loyal caretaker, & sardonic, resourceful spy}, with little else but the clothes on their backs, & some swallowed jewels. They reach Fiammetta's deceased mother's home in Venice. Soon La Draga, a mysterious, blind woman comes into their lives to nurse Fiammetta back to her original health & beauty. After a long recuperation she sets out to be the highly desired Courtesan she had been back in Rome. But, clearly she has not recovered as she gets more businesslike & cold as the book advances. Her lovers & friends are well done 7 most have an impact on the general theme. The most interesting relationship in the book is between La Draga & Bucino. their relationship will eventually put Fiammetta into the background, while these two characters play out their dramatic fates. The only minor flaw is that it was a too long, had it been a bit shorter in reaching the end I would have given it 5 stars.

Diluted Sexuality in the Company of the Courtesan?.......2007-07-25

Dunant is a brilliant and poetic writer, which makes the book well worth the read. However, I agree with other reviewers that, for a book about sexuality and intrigue, it certainly lacks passion. While "The Birth of Venus" was provocative, this book was disappointingly tame. The most beautifully written passages of the book concern Bucino's thoughts and memories, and he also happens to be the only intriguing character. Fiammetta, who was supposedly so charming, certainly failed to impress. Only in the first chapter was she as mesmerizing as the author wanted her to be. The ending was rather anticlimactic, abrupt, and unsatisfying. These criticisms aside, the book was still entertaining, yet not quite as memorable as "The Birth of Venus."

I have to say the audio of this fine book is the first book I've listened to on CD, and I had a fine time of it! So much so that I bought the hardcover book and am now immersed in that. I didn't just want the abridged version. I wanted the whole cake.

I had just read "Birth of Venus" by this author and decided to try a second one. That period of history in Italy interest me, and I think she does an outstanding job of weaving history and fiction into both novels.
