A classic of critical phenomena.......2000-04-12

"Introduction to phase transitions and critical phenomena" can be considered a classic in the subject, and, despite its first edition is now nearly thirty years old, and some of the results presented have been worked out in more detail along these years, I highly recommend it as an introduction to the subject. One fundamental advantage of the book that makes it different from newer teatrises like "The Theory of Critical Phenomena" by Binney et al (1992), is that it allows a

"softer" interface with "classical" thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, which is very convenient for beginners. Another important feature is the systematic "compromise" with the experiment, quite rare in theoretically-oriented books: it covers from the classic experiment of the critical point in the cyclohexane-aniline system, to the description of various spectrometers. Of course, "modern" topics in critical phenomena such as percolation are not examined and should be consulted in newer books. I might also criticize some lacks in the subject index; for example, the excellent survey of critical exponents in Binney's index is not matched in this book.

Good "books" of books.......2007-08-24

Although this "book" of enoch is important, the section divsions are important and IGNORED in this version.

I watched a show on the history channel called Banned from the bible and it gave me insite on different books that were not included in the bible. The book of enoch was one of them. After buying and reading the book it gave me a more understanding of bible prophecy.

Hard to follow the first time I read it. Second time made alot more sense.

Well written, but questionable content.......2007-08-02

I feel the author did a good job in putting this manuscript together. The book starts out in genuine old testament style that smacks of authenticity. However, as the book goes on the style changes somewhat, seems to lose its solid beginnings and drifts off into the mystic. It is obviously a composite work that has been corrupted through the centuries by a barrage of gnostic and imaginative authors. No doubt there is some original text of Enoch in here, but weeding out the bunk is a difficult, if not impossible task.

Nevertheless, on the parts that do not contradict scripture, it offers information not readily found anywhere else, especially at its beginning. Ideas that were helpful to me included the origin of the nephilim, defining the "sons of God", and the identities of the fallen angels who commited this attempt to create a hybrid spawn and foil the prophecy of redemption and judgement through the seed of man.

I recommend that christians who read this work do so cautiously. The information in here is intriguing; no doubt some of it is credible, but the work has become corrupted through the ages and it is obvious that this is why it was not included in the divinely inspired biblical scripture.

2004 translation of the Ethiopian Version of Enoch's Prophesies.......2007-08-01

The translator of the Book of Enoch considers "2 Enoch" (the Slavonic version) as corrupted and inferior, therefore exclusively using "1 Enoch", the Ethiopian version. He uses plain, modern English, merging different previous translators, occasionally providing alternative vocabulary in brackets. The respective Western Bible sections are included which are referencing this obviously prior source. Some interpretation possibilities are provided, which are exactly that: possibilities.

The Book of Enoch is - among other subjects - about transgressions of angels and humans alike. Written in the Old Testament style, God/Jah appears to be vengeful and unforgiving on the surface. However, mystics will be able to see that differently. For example, there are hints about the sin of separation and that the flooded animals/humans/angels aren't destroyed, but now assembled/returned with good mind again to a joyful Jah/God. Those who blind separations experience death/perishable years of existence.

Accordingly, violence, hunger for power and greed gets condemmed. Which is a central theme in the rest of the Bible/the Western Bible, but got misinterpreted a lot in order to downpress and exploit at least three minorities, i.e. doing exactly the opposite from that which had been written. In that line the Book of Enoch clarifies that a petition on behalf of the ones condemmed is not given, even if they speak all the words from God's writings.

Interesting for RastafarI the condemnation of kings in this Ethiopian Bible canon, as Haile Selassie-I (King of Kings), abolished himself as a literal king as a concept of human society. Also the lengthy section of the sheep and wolves methaphor will be of special interest to RastafarI.

No less intriguing the search for knowledge in contrast to idol worship (the latter of which is interpretable also as beliefs of separations, veneration of gold, power etc). As an example, the Book of Enoch is against astrology, but elaborates intensely on astronomy. Suggesting a very different trend from the Western Bible translations, omissions and concepts.
