A Must-Read for Any Business Leader.......2001-05-17
So how do employers keep good employees? Learn about and listen to what employees want, and create a great place to work. The book outlines six expectations employees have: balance and synergy, work as a noble cause, personal growth and development, partnership, community at work, and trust. The major theme, though, is values: workers want a workplace they can believe in.
The authors present examples of companies across North America currently meeting (and often surpassing) their employees' expectations, to superb retention results. Quizzes at the end of each chapter help business leaders put what they've learned into action, and profiles of company leaders bring a human element in. CEOs, ignore this book at your peril: this is the future of work.
An Essential Book for the Leaders Library.......2001-04-23
Many books on changing values and cultures often provide the reader with mostly theory, jargon and academic research. This book bridges the gap between theory and practice in a user friendly manner. The book is full of examples of companies and individuals making a difference in their workplace and relating this to the changing values of the workforce. It is an easy, captivating read.
This book has helped me understand the workforce in our organization better and in doing so has helped me to be a more responsive leader. However, this book needs to be shared with others in your organization. Every manager would do themselves well to have this book in their library.

Values Shift: The New Work Ethic and What It Means For Business
Ph.D. John B. Izzo , and Pam Withers Manufacturer: Fair Winds Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: B000QGJ478 |
Product Description
A new work ethic is emerginga new set of values about work and its place in our lives. These new values will re-shape how we operate and what companies must do to attract and keep good people. While work has changed dramatically over the last two decades, a new practical business book from Fairwinds Press argues that our values around work have also changed in ways that will impact businesses for decades to come. In this groundbreaking book called Values Shift: The New Work Ethic & What it Means for Business, authors John B. Izzo and Pam Withers identify how our values about work are changing and how this new work ethic is impacting companies as they try to attract and keep talent. These values, according to Izzo, will require employers to focus on creating workplaces that respond to a shifting set of wants and desires. "How we see work and what we want from it is shifting radically and smart companies will pay attention to these changes,"says Izzo. The new work ethic is defined by six major expectations at work that cut across three generationsBaby Boomers, Generation X-ers and the Net Generation. While all three generations have some unique perspectives, they have a lot more in common than we realize in terms of the six emerging expectations of the workplace: 1) Balance and synergy 2) Work as a noble cause 3) Personal growth and development 4) Partnership 5) Community at work 6) Trust

As Good as a Yarn with You: Letters between Miles Franklin, Katharine Susannah Prichard, Jean Devanny, Marjory Barnard, Flora Eldershaw and Eleanor Dark
Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0521393140 |
Book Description
This is a fascinating collection of the correspondence between six Australian women writers written between 1930 and 1957 and unpublished until now. Miles Franklin, Katharine Susannah Prichard, Jean Devanny, Marjorie Barnard, Flora Eldershaw and Eleanor Dark discuss their work, their personal lives and their views of the world in these letters, which were written with the purpose of providing sympathetic support and which bacome a source of friendship. Each of the women was centrally engaged with the social and political issues of her time, and these letters appear as a continuing dialogue written over three decades, from the Depression with its struggles and militancy, the nationalism and chauvinism of the Second World War, through to the conservatism of the Cold War. As non-fictional writing, the correspondence perhaps best articulates the complexity of the women’s lives and the clashes between their private and the public worlds in a way which more polished literary genres fail to do.
