Some good ideas.......2006-08-05
This book does have some good ideas regarding how to get a meeting to be more active.
Getting Meetings Moving!.......2004-08-30
This book is the best I have seen (and I've seen several) for a quick reference to meeting activities. Moreover, the activities are incredibly easy to understand and implement and are, in a word, fun! This is a great reference to have on any facilitator's desk, or for the person who leads meetings for his/her company.

Book Description
This extraordinary Atlas is based on high resolution CCD images of the terminator area of the Moon under 47 different illuminations. Each image is displayed across two or three pages, enabling readers to see features as small as 1-2 kilometers. For each illumination, accompanying text describes the major features shown in each view, along with larger-scale images of selected areas, indexed with their positions and dimensions. Two text chapters describe and illustrate the lunar observation techniques and the landform types. Observing data are presented through 2009. Experienced observers will find the Atlas an invaluable planning tool, while beginners will gain an understanding of lunar geography and geology. No other atlas shows the Moon under such a variety of observing conditions.
Customer Reviews:
Atlas Falls Short of Expectations.......2002-02-03
Observing the lunar terminator is a delight. A low sun angle magnifies the major geographic features and accents subtle geologic structures unseen a few hours later. Scanning the terminator through a small or moderate size telescope opens the world of exploration and sightseeing even to the most novice of novices.
The concept of developing an atlas of the lunar terminator is excellent. The readership market is there. Regretfully, Westfall's book falls far short of expectations. Most disappointing is the quality of his lunar images. Simply put---many are terrible. At first, I wondered if I had an out-of-focus, pre-repair Hubble version. Surely Cambridge University Press would not print such low quality. This is especially true for the waning moon. Such images do not represent the outstanding work many amateur astronomers have produced in recent years that are routinely published in popular astronomy magazines. The best image is found on the book's jacket.
Picture details (dates, telescope, etc) are best placed in an appendix rather than competing for limited space adjacent to each image. I do like the fact that distance scales and directions are superimposed on most images. That's likely the geographer side of Westfall coming through.
The text is sometimes informative but written very dry. This could be overlooked because each author has his/her writing style and intended audience. However, those images are the weakest link---goodbye.
I do not recommend the book.
Save Your Money!.......2000-10-09
I had high hopes for this book was truly disappointed.
Mr. Westafall knows his technical moon stuff, and the text of the first few chapters or so is very informative, but he does not make it fun to learn at at all. The writing style is very dry, like a reading a manual on how to fix your washing machine. This is strictly a reference book, not a book to read for pleasure.
The CCD pictures are terrible. The resolution is very low, and many are annoyingly pixelated. They have very little value as a reference, and you should get Rukl's Atlas of the Moon instead.
The descriptive text about the various lunar features that accompanies each picture is likewise very weak, and doesn't really teach you about what tantalizing views are to be had as the sun rises upon them.
You will not be happy with this book. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Atlas of the Lunar Terminator - A disappointment.......2000-09-18
A great concept, good text, but the photo reproductions are of very poor quality. If Cambridge University Press were to re-issue this book with good, sharp copies of Professor Westfall's photos, then this would be a five plus star book! At the present Rükl's "Atlas of the Moon" or Cherrington's "Exploring the Moon" better fill the needs of the Selenic observer.
atlas of the lunar terminator.......2000-09-01
the atlas is the best publication that i have seen that shows details of the moon. only nasa could publish something beter. photos are shown when the shadows and lighting are the best for each area of the moon. composite photos are used to show excellent detail.

Human Drug Metabolism: An Introduction

Handbook of Pharmaceutical Salts : Properties, Selection, and Use
ASIN: 390639025X |
Book Description
Many drugs and other xenobiotics (e.g., preservatives, insecticides, and plastifiers) contain hydrolyzable moieties such as ester or amide groups. In biological media, such foreign compounds are, therefore, important substrates for hydrolytic reactions catalyzed by hydrolases or proceeding non-enzymatically.
Despite their significance, until now, no book has been dedicated to hydrolysis and hydrolases in the metabolism of drugs and other xenobiotics. This work fills a gap in the literature and reviews metabolic reactions of hydrolysis and hydarion from the point of views of enzymes, substrates, and reactions.

Alfred Russel Wallace: A Life
ASIN: 0801867894 |
Book Description
Long overshadowed by his contemporaries Charles Darwin and Thomas H. Huxley, Alfred Russel Wallace was an English naturalist and pioneer evolutionist who researched biological diversity through extensive exploration and travel. Independent of Darwin, Wallace developed a theory of evolution through natural selection, which ultimately spurred Darwin to complete and publish his own Origin of Species. Famous for drawing "Wallace's Line," the boundary line separating the Asian and Australian zoological regions, Wallace's studies of the distribution of plants and animals pioneered an evolutionary approach to global and island biogeography. The Alfred Russel Wallace Reader: A Selection of Writings from the Field is the first book to reintroduce Wallace to a general readership beyond the cadre of scientists and historians familiar with his work.
Customer Reviews:
Historic Justice for A.R. Wallace.......2002-05-21
Jane Camerini has performed a great service to all who are
interested in evolutionary theory. Wallace deserves to be
regarded as the co-founder of the modern theory of evolution.
He also wrote on a wide range of scientific and social topics.
Camerini's introductory remarks to each of the essays in this
collection help put them in their context.
a Wallace reader for the layperson.......2002-03-05
Jane Camerini's slender anthology of Wallace's writings (and writings about him) is intended to provide an introduction to the great naturalist, primarily through his adventures in the field. Camerini has chosen a format for presenting this information very similar to that provided by another Wallace scholar, Barbara Beddall, whose "Wallace and Bates in the Tropics" was published way back in 1969. Camerini supplements excerpts from four books with her own introductory commentaries and a few additional Wallace essays, hoping that this will give the reader unfamiliar with his accomplishments some feel for them. I think she succeeds in this endeavor. The book is well organized and presented, including a number of interesting photos and figures, and Camerini's editorial commentaries are mostly right on target. Yet I cannot help but feel the brevity of the treatment will leave some readers puzzled. I'm not sure that the decision to include several essays of a more technical nature in a 200 page work was well advised; the gap between the fieldwork studies and Wallace's thought is considerable--not unfathomable, but not straightforward either--and the average reader may need more help than Camerini gives to appreciate the transition. Alternately, it might have been interesting to dwell strictly on the field studies--incorporating a greater diversity of excerpts--and then merely to refer to his future philosophical directions in a page or two of editorial comment at the end. Still, an interesting contribution to Wallace studies, and one which is likely to both complement and not duplicate the several others that will be appearing over the next months.

Book Description
This is the inspirational cult classic that Runner's World (and many others) have called "the best novel ever written about running".
The Reno Gazette-Journal has also called it "a book so good, people will steal it."
How often do you hear about someone borrowing a friend's book, then later buying their own copy because they liked it so much? Or a book so treasured that it gets passed from friend to friend until it simply falls apart from so many readings? Once a Runner is such a book. It has become a cult classic and our all-time best seller. It's been acclaimed over the years by Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, Alberto Salazar and many other top runners.
Many regard the story of Quenton Cassidy's battle to the top as the most accurate portrayal yet written of the tiny universe of world class runners. And it's a great source of training inspiration and wisdom as well. Many readers say they learned more about running from this novel than from all the training books they have read.
It has won Running magazine's award as the best book of the year, and has been highly acclaimed by Runner's World, Running Times, Racing South, and Track & Field News, as well as by writers like Don Kardong, Kenny Moore Tom Jordan and Hal Higdon.
Customer Reviews:
Simply the best..........2007-05-28
This book captures the essence of distance running... A must read for anyone who runs.
Simply Amazing!!.......2007-04-12
I am an avid runner and this book defines what it is to be a runner. It is a cult classic and i've read it 10 times and always lend it out for other people who are just starting to get into running. The major motion picture based on the book is set to be released on July 22 by Universal Pictures. The sequel to this book "Again to Carthage" is also set to be due in July 2007 as well.
Great Entertainment for Runners.......2007-04-10
The running tidbits are an integral part in this story about a young man and his life in college. It's an entertaining read for runners and non-runners alike.
Do not let the bad cover fool you.......2007-03-01
When I saw this, it looked dated, like a book from the 70s. However I have to echo other reviewers here when I saw it is the best running fiction book I've read. Parker's "Once a Runner" is a great escape from all of the training manuals and guides that runners are forced to read for entertainment. While the main focus on the book is on running, it is cleverly hidden by the story the protagonist, Quenton, and his quest for a sub 4:00 mile. Parker doesn't spend the whole book focusing on things like pace, training regimen, mileage, etc. He hardly ever directly mentions those things, yet they're there, just below the surface. Running almost seems like just a hobby for Quenton as he focuses on his girlfriend and college, but 3/4ths of the way into the book it all comes together and the reader realizes just how important running is to him and just how good he is at it.
I would highly recommend this book to non-runners as well. Running is a fairly boring event. Unless someone is really into it, I cannot imagine they would want to actually read a book about it. But as I said, Parker carefully disguises the running aspect of it. For the non-runner, there's a pretty decent story and they won't become bored with the technical aspects of running. For the serious runner however, this book has some really inspirational moments, and you will find yourself inspired to get up and get moving. The runner understands when they read about Quenton running thirty miles through the rain to his girlfriend's house, and I really felt a small rush in the chapter where Quenton is training with classmates and breaks away from their pace to finish well before them.
"Once a Runner" is such a great book mainly because Parker downplays the running aspect of it, but for those "in the know," it is all there, waiting to be discovered.
Once A Runner by John Parker.......2007-01-19
Our son is an avid runner and has wanted this book for sometime. We were able to purchase it through [...] from Tom Raynor. He was wonderful to work with. He definitely went the "extra mile" to make sure that we received this in time for Christmas. Our son was thrilled!
