Making the Numbers Count: The Accountant As Change Agent on the World Class Team (Corporate Leadership)
Brian H. Maskell Manufacturer: Productivity Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 1563270706 |
Book Description
Maskell challenges you to take a fresh look at your accounting systems and then clarifies world class methods required for innovative, proactive management accounting. As we move our analytical skills into new areas of the production organization and abandon many of the traditional methods, there are new techniques we must learn.
The average management accountant is woefully ignorant of the company's processes and procedures. They do not have a clear understanding of the accounting and administration procedures because these tend to be complex and convoluted. As well, very few management accountants have more than a passing knowledge of the manufacturing processes -- not to mention the engineering and technology the product uses.
To be a valuable contributor to your organization, you must be intimately familiar with the company's products, processes, markets, and customers. You must also have a clear understanding of what people in other departments think, feel, and do. These things are not learned in training classes; They are learned by taking the time and effort -- often in your own time -- to get alongside other people in your organization and become a part of the team.

Accountants HAVE to be integral to Lean transformation!.......2003-02-19
Concise, with clear steps to creating an improvement plan, the book is meant to start a dialogue among the Accounting community that will inevitably lead to a fundamental shift in how Accountants see their role in the organization. "Traditional Management Accounting is irrelevant at best," is enough to wake up even the stauchest dyed-in-the-Wool Cost Accountants and start them on a path to looking forward in the organization instead of focusing on past results.

ASIN: 0743486129 |
Book Description
In July 1947, something crashed in the desert near Roswell, New Mexico. What that object was, as well as what happened in the days following the crash, has been hotly disputed ever since. Did the United States government cover up the existence of an extraterrestrial UFO? Were alien bodies recovered from the crash site? Or was it all nothing more than the failed launch of a weather balloon? The "Roswell Incident" remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of the twentieth century, and a source of enduring controversy. As part of the SCI FI Channel's ongoing mission to separate science fiction from science fact, the network sponsored an unprecedented, comprehensive archeological investigation of the crash site. Utilizing modern-day forensic tools, scientists from the University of New Mexico, in partnership with SCI FI, set out to uncover physical evidence to determine once and for all what really happened in the desert near Roswell. Only some of the team's discoveries were hinted at in SCI FI's highest-rated-ever documentary, The Roswell Crash: Startling New Evidence. Many have speculated about the true extent of what the dig team uncovered. Until now. The Roswell Dig Diaries presents to the public, for the very first time, the exclusive complete archeological report, including the final scientific conclusions of this landmark excavation and never-before-seen maps and photos of the crash site. This groundbreaking volume also takes you behind the scenes of the investigation with exclusive day-by-day personal journals and private company emails, written by everyone from the project leader, Dr. Bill Doleman, to Roswell Report authors Thomas J. Carey and Donald R. Schmitt, to SCI FI Channel executives, to the volunteer dig team members who helped make the investigation possible. Read the facts, sift through the evidence, and decide for yourself. Are we alone?Customer Reviews:

Mark Danielewski's first novel House of Leaves is a cult-favorite--experimental horror fiction in a gorgeous (and newly remastered) full-color package. His new book Only Revolutions takes the experiment 10 steps further in a story about teenage lovers Hailey and Sam: the book is printed on two sides--one side tells the story from Hailey's point of view, flip it over and you get Sam's side (literally). We caught a glimpse inside the mind-bending new novel--take a look for yourself below.

House of Leaves: A Novel
Mark Z. Danielewski Manufacturer: Pantheon ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0375410341 Release Date: 2000-03-07 |

Had The Blair Witch Project been a book instead of a film, and had it been written by, say, Nabokov at his most playful, revised by Stephen King at his most cerebral, and typeset by the futurist editors of Blast at their most avant-garde, the result might have been something like House of Leaves. Mark Z. Danielewski's first novel has a lot going on: notably the discovery of a pseudoacademic monograph called The Navidson Record, written by a blind man named Zampanò, about a nonexistent documentary film--which itself is about a photojournalist who finds a house that has supernatural, surreal qualities. (The inner dimensions, for example, are measurably larger than the outer ones.) In addition to this Russian-doll layering of narrators, Danielewski packs in poems, scientific lists, collages, Polaroids, appendices of fake correspondence and "various quotes," single lines of prose placed any which way on the page, crossed-out passages, and so on.Now that we've reached the post-postmodern era, presumably there's nobody left who needs liberating from the strictures of conventional fiction. So apart from its narrative high jinks, what does House of Leaves have to offer? According to Johnny Truant, the tattoo-shop apprentice who discovers Zampanò's work, once you read The Navidson Record,
For some reason, you will no longer be the person you believed you once were. You'll detect slow and subtle shifts going on all around you, more importantly shifts in you. Worse, you'll realize it's always been shifting, like a shimmer of sorts, a vast shimmer, only dark like a room. But you won't understand why or how. We'll have to take his word for it, however. As it's presented here, the description of the spooky film isn't continuous enough to have much scare power. Instead, we're pulled back into Johnny Truant's world through his footnotes, which he uses to discharge everything in his head, including the discovery of the manuscript, his encounters with people who knew Zampanò, and his own battles with drugs, sex, ennui, and a vague evil force. If The Navidson Record is a mad professor lecturing on the supernatural with rational-seeming conviction, Truant's footnotes are the manic student in the back of the auditorium, wigged out and furiously scribbling whoa-dude notes about life.
Despite his flaws, Truant is an appealingly earnest amateur editor--finding translators, tracking down sources, pointing out incongruities. Danielewski takes an academic's--or ex-academic's--glee in footnotes (the similarity to David Foster Wallace is almost too obvious to mention), as well as other bogus ivory-tower trappings such as interviews with celebrity scholars like Camille Paglia and Harold Bloom. And he stuffs highbrow and pop-culture references (and parodies) into the novel with the enthusiasm of an anarchist filling a pipe bomb with bits of junk metal. House of Leaves may not be the prettiest or most coherent collection, but if you're trying to blow stuff up, who cares? --John Ponyicsanyi
Book Description
Years ago, when House of Leaves was first being passed around, it was nothing more than a badly bundled heap of paper, parts of which would occasionally surface on the Internet. No one could have anticipated the small but devoted following this terrifying story would soon command. Starting with an odd assortment of marginalized youth -- musicians, tattoo artists, programmers, strippers, environmentalists, and adrenaline junkies -- the book eventually made its way into the hands of older generations, who not only found themselves in those strangely arranged pages but also discovered a way back into the lives of their estranged children.Customer Reviews:
