Book Description
It is almost impossible for accounting professionals to keep abreast of the flood of issuances by FASB and AICPA, as well as the numerous interpretations and bulletins explaining them, and the activities of the SEC and EITF. Accountants continue to rely on single, authoritative references to provide answers to all reasonable questions on accounting and financial reporting. Although FASB is the primary source of authoritative accounting guidance, other sources continue to emerge and the importance of the AICPA, SEC, GASB, and Emerging Issues Task Force (EITF) as regulatory bodies continues to grow. As a result, accountants find it necessary to rely on guidance provided by the EITF and AICPA SOPs and guides.
Customer Reviews:
The Best of the Best!.......2003-05-31
This set is the most comprehensive, informative, and complete writing on accounting. No other book is necessary! These are hard to find though. Good luck!
Accountants' Handbook.......2000-06-19
Working in public accounting for a long time, but beeing new to the accounting world in the U.S., I found this book very instructive and helpful to resolve practical questions on one hand and finding access to the underlying "World of Statements", the scientific backbone, at the same time.
First it offers a red thread through most of the relevant areas of accounting and financial reporting. But even more important, the book contains a reliable and quick guidance to find solutions for a lot of different actual practical issues, occurring in specific industries and situations.

Customer Reviews:
Not What I Expected.......2006-02-21
Plachy's original book, "Results-Oriented Job Descriptions: More Than 225 Models to Use or Adapt-With Guidelines for Creating Your Own," received wonderful reviews and a 5-star rating. I made the assumption that since it is no longer in print, "More Results-Oriented Job Descriptions:..." was a reissue of the original book with additional material. I was wrong. Common job descriptions were included in the first book; those included in this work are additional and not what I needed to develop descriptions for employees in my company. For example, I need a complete description for our company financial controller. It was in the first volume. I wish that would have been explained in the editorial material for the book. I am unable to use this book and feel that I wasted money purchasing it.
Practical, helpful guide to writing job descriptions.......2005-04-01
If you need to write job descriptions, this book is an excellent resource. The results-oriented writing style is an excellent model for creating an operations manual that gives employees a real understanding of the purpose of their work and how it fits into the big picture of the organization.
More Results-Oriented Job Descriptions.......2001-03-26
I can use or adapt the models, or learn to make their own. And all the descriptions are included on a free, easy-to-use computer disk. This book helps my company:
** prepare job descriptions tied to business goals ** communicate expectations clearly ** improve employee job performance ** save time and money

Great little book.......2007-07-30
I was looking for a book with star charts that I could keep with my binoculars. This book is small enough to keep in the pocket of my binocular case. The charts are small, but very clear. I have come to really like this book. Even though this book is small in size, it is functional and easy to use. And it truly is "pocket sized."
Excellent pocket guide to the constellations.......2006-07-03
This is a great, compact guide to use as a light reference on knowing the constellations. If you want in-depth coverage try Eyewitness Handbooks: Stars and Planets (Ridpath).

Collins Gem Stars provides details of all 88 constellations of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, complete with star charts and a star atlas of the entire sky, ideal for practical observation of the stars throughout the world all year round.
Customer Reviews:
Amazing little book.......2006-03-08
Essentially a high quality sky atlas in a small but highly readable format, including a listing and short discussion of the objects that are interesting in each of the 88 constellations.
Highly recommended!
Amazingly good for a shirt-pocket Star Atlas........2003-05-05
This little "gem" is often overlooked by serious astronomers, but its small format (8cm x 11.5cm) gives you a star atlas in your shirt pocket! Separate chart for each constellation, down to mag 5. Lots of DSOs, including the Messiers, are marked. Recommended!

RELATIVISTIC EFFECTS IN CHEMISTRY
This century's most famous equation, Einstein's special theory of relativity, transformed our comprehension of the nature of time and matter. Today, making use of the theory in a relativistic analysis of heavy molecules, that is, computing the properties and nature of electrons, is the work of chemists intent on exploring the mysteries of minute particles.
The first work of its kind, Relativistic Effects in Chemistry details the computational and analytical methods used in studying the relativistic effects in chemical bonding as well as the spectroscopic properties of molecules containing very heavy atoms. The first of two independent volumes, Part A: Theory and Techniques describes the basic techniques of relativistic quantum chemistry. Its systematic five-part format begins with a detailed exposition of Einstein's special theory of relativity, the significance of relativity in chemistry, and the nature of relativistic effects, especially with molecules containing both main group atoms and transition metal atoms.
Chapter 3 discusses the fundamentals of relativistic quantum mechanics starting from the Klein-Gordon equation through such advanced constructs as the Breit-Pauli and Dirac multielectron Hamiltonian. Modern computational techniques, of importance with problems involving very heavy molecules, are outlined in Chapter 4. These include the relativistic effective core potentials, ab initio CASSCF, CI, and RCI techniques. Chapter 5 describes relativistic symmetry using the double group symmetry of molecules and the classification of relativistic electronic states and is of special importance to chemists or spectroscopists interested in computing or analyzing electronic states of molecules containing very heavy atoms.
An exceptional introduction to one of chemistry's foremost analytical techniques, Relativistic Effects in Chemistry is also evidence of the still unending reverberations of Einstein's revolutionary theory.

Book Description
With all the recent advances in molecular and evolutionary biology, one could almost wonder why we need the fossil record. Molecular sequence data can resolve taxonomic relationships, experiments with fruit flies demonstrate evolution and development in real time, and field studies of Galapagos finches have provided the strongest evidence for natural selection ever measured in the wild. What, then, can fossils teach us that living organisms cannot?
Evolutionary Patterns demonstrates the rich variety of clues to evolution that can be gleaned from the fossil record. Chief among these are the major trends and anomalies in species development revealed only by "deep time," such as periodic mass extinctions and species that remain unchanged in form for millions of years. Contributors explore modes of development, the tempo of speciation and extinction, and macroevolutionary patterns and trends. The result is an important contribution to paleobiology and evolutionary biology, and a spirited defense of the fossil record as a crucial tool for understanding evolution and development.
The contributors are Ann F. Budd, Efstathia Bura, Leo W. Buss, Mike Foote, Jörn Geister, Stephen Jay Gould, Eckart Hâkansson, Jean-Georges Harmelin, Lee-Ann C. Hayek, Jeremy B. C. Jackson, Kenneth G. Johnson, Nancy Knowlton, Scott Lidgard, Frank K. McKinney, Daniel W. McShea, Ross H. Nehm, Beth Okamura, John M. Pandolfi, Paul D. Taylor, and Erik Thomsen.

Book Description
Because of the importance of the hydrogen bond, there have been scores of insights gained about its fundamental nature by quantum chemical computations over the years. Such methods can probe subtle characteristics of the electronic structure and examine regions of the potential energy surface that are simply not accessible by experimental means. The maturation of the techniques, codes, and computer hardware have permitted calculations of unprecedented reliability and rivaling the accuracy of experimental data. This book strives first toward an appreciation of the power of quantum chemistry to analyze the deepest roots of the hydrogen bond phenomenon. It offers a systematic and understandable account of decades of such calculations, focusing on the most important findings. This book provides readers with the tools to understand the original literature, and to perhaps carry out some calculations of their very own on systems of interest.

Book Description
Within twenty-four hours a nightmare will be unleashed that could cause the death of untold millions and devastate a great nation. It's a plot being carried out by the unlikeliest of allies. A powerful mole within the deepest reaches of U.S. Intelligence has secretly conscripted the very criminals he's been charged with investigating -- former IRA terrorists, Latino and Asian gang members, Middle Eastern assassins and others -- creating one of the most insidious terrorist networks law enforcement has yet to take down.
One man stands between the destroyers and the death tide: Jack Bauer, lone wolf operative for America's brand-new elite Counter Terrorist Unit. But he's three thousand miles from the CTU command center without backup in a strange city, New York. He's been artfully set up and is being hunted by the FBI for the murder of two of its agents. And time's almost up . . .
Customer Reviews:
Not as exciting as the show.......2007-08-01
I am a big fan of the TV show so thought I'd give the first book a shot and was somewhat disappointed for various reasons:
1. The personalities of the characters do not come out in the book. Jack comes across as a "nice guy" always saying "please" and "thank you". Not the gritty, take-charge Jack of the show. Most of the other CTU characters only have one liners and their characters are not developed at all in the story.
2. The plane flight from Atlanta to LaGuardia is a key part of the entire story and lasts for several hours in the book compared to only 2 hours in real life.
3. Some chapters were action packed, but others were dull and boring to get through.
I don't think this book comes anywhere close to the thrill of the TV show.
Could have used a continuity editor..........2007-06-19
This book offers up many things that I think have been missing from the TV show in the past few seasons, including a coherent plot that runs through the entire 24-hour period and a lot of "in-the-field" thrills without getting bogged down in inane presidential politics and battles over the 25th Amendment. But, while I'm not a military expert, so I can't comment on the technical blunders in the book (although I believe that they are blunders), the fact remains the continuity editing is truly horrible.
Without ruining the plot, lets just say that a plane takes off from Atlanta at 1:30 in the morning but does not arrive in New York City until 8:45 a.m. Were it the Wright Brothers plane I might buy it, but the plane is a 727! The plane takes two and a half hours just to get from Trenton, NJ to NYC!
All told, while the plot concept is not bad, the book itself is drivel written by a lazy writer with virtually no editing. If you love the show and need a fix, buy the book and read it in a couple of hours on the beach. Otherwise, it just isn't worth it.
Need a "24" Fix Between Episodes?.......2007-04-29
Jack Bauer and the rest of the Counter-Terrorism Unit have 24 hours to stop a plot that would devastate the citizens of Los Angeles and the entire nation. However, no one is entirely sure what kind of threat is forthcoming. Is it a plan to shoot down dozens of domestic airliners...or something even more terrifying? The hunt for answers will take Jack Bauer to New York City where as Jack scours the city for leads, each hour has the potential of leading him and an entire city closer to death...
As a fan of the TV show, I had fun reading about characters that are not on the show presently for various reasons. I would definitely recommend this book for someone who is a fan of the show or has never seen it. The story has plenty of action, drama, and suspense to go around. However, if you have never seen the show, I would also recommend renting the first season DVD. Between the books and the TV show, you will be a 24 convert in no time.
Operation Hell Gate........2007-01-19
Brilliant!!! "All Hail the Power of Bauer". If you love the TV series, you will love the read.
Top Notch.......2007-01-15
Thrilling and intriguing. Keeps the reader on edge. Excellent story line and plot.
