Absolutely the best source of information on Prostate Cancer and I've bought and read most of them. Easy to read and straight forward for all readers. So don't make any decisions until you read this book. I'm a health care professional and even I benefited from this book.

Excellent for the Newly Informed Cancer Patient, BUT CAUTION!.......2006-09-14

I freaked out when I was told by my urologist, just a few months ago, that my biopsy showed prostate cancer and---by the way---would I like to be put on his surgery schedule for next month! This is a fabulous book and one I throughly recommend for the newly diagnosed man who is reeling from the shock of getting this rotten news and not sure what to do. HOWEVER, the book is written by an American surgeon and that means a heavy bias toward treatment for everyone (even low risk cancers) and preferably surgery. It turned out, in my case, that the cancer is less aggressive than my urologist was leading me to believe (get that second opinion!). Monitoring the cancer for changes is a defensible strategy for avoiding the awful side effects of ANY of the treatments for prostate cancer, if your cancer is at a low to medium risk. All that said, this is still a great book and covers most all the bases.

Very Informative Primer on Prostate Cancer.......2005-07-11

My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1999. He has had two cryo ablation procedures and yet still has the cancer (confined to the prostate). Having worked for a well-known urologist for many years, I feel Dr. Lange's book is the best literature we have read over the years and has helped answer the many questions we have had in language my husband can understand. Our urologist, however, spends a great deal of time with us explaining everything.

This book covers prostate cancer from the prospective of a surgeon who treats the disease and who admits that he was terrified when he was diagnosed with it himself. Prostate Cancer for Dummies covers symptoms of prostate cancer and how it's treated (surgery, radiation, etc.) and also covers how to cope with the side effects, such as impotence, depression and so on. The author factors in how cancer affects the whole family and discusses how the person with cancer can help his family help him. Prostate cancer data simplified.......2003-05-05

As a person who's spent hundreds of hours researching and reading about prostate cancer over the last four years, I picked up Lange and Adamec's new book with misgivings that quickly changed into affirmative head-nodding. I found the book to be well-organized, and as I scanned and flipped back and forth through its coverage of all the big questions, I concluded this is a book that has long been needed. Although the book is in the DUMMIES series, it is from start to finish a first-rate professional and easily-readable treatment of a complex and deadly serious subject -- prostate cancer. Whether it's one's first foray into the shifting world of prostate cancer data, treatment and research or one wants to double-check what one has learned, this is THE book to buy.

A Fair Book, For Dummies.......2002-04-21

Inlander's book reviews in fairly basic format questions men may have about their health. I found the book good for most people at the high school graduate level, but one piece amazed me.
In the section on men's plumming Inlander gives a brief outline of the benefits of circumcision. I assume from his commentary Inlander is an American circumcised male.
He starts off all well and states that more or less circumcision adds little as a health benefit and cites a study done in 1997. Then apparently feeling this new knowledge could not be right he adds that circumcision protects against urinary infection in men. This is NOT true. The current flap on circumcision and UTI involves babies less than six months of age. The over all rate of UTI independant of circumcision status for boys is one percent at most. This says 100 or more boys would be circumcised to prophylactically prevent a UTI in one. Not a very good trade off when the complication rate of circumcision is at least one percent and some studies show five to ten percent.
Inlander then grasps at straws and states secretions under the foreskin will cause cancer of the penis!
This is at best an outmoded prejudice. Current thoery posits a virus HPV and smoking the major contributors.In countries which do-not circumcise and have hygienic facilities, i.e. running water,
the penile cancer rate is less than 1 in 100,000 men, hardly a reason to seek a cut.
Inlander then states a number of "junkie" secretions that may LURK under the foreskin causing irritations.
What does he mean? I suppose if a person never practiced any hygiene any body part would be irritated. I would not cut off my nose to avoid blowing it so why is the foreskin such a bother? Obviously Inlander has NEVER owned a normal penis , except perhaps a few hours after birth before the foreskin was harvested without his consent.
So I am forced to say this is a fair book for dummies written by an only slightly brighter dummie, with a need to justify male circumcision as a preventive of a number of improbable conditions.

Definitive sourcebook for lunar science.......2004-12-14

Contains the most comprehensive summary of lunar science in a single volume. It is essential for anyone interested in studying the Moon. I use it as a reference for basic lunar soil and rock properties, radiation flux, crater scaling relationships, and many other topics.

However, I would not recommend this book for someone interested in basic lunar knowledge, lunar observing, or amateur interest in human/robotic exploration of the Moon. It is usually too technical for these purposes, and it is probably not worth the cost and trouble of obtaining a copy. You might be happier with the cheaper and easier to read Lunar Base Handbook, which is still quite informative (you will find it references the Sourcebook just about every other page).

For an excellent and equally technical companion to the Sourcebook, I suggest the epic Geologic History of the Moon (USGS Professional Paper 1348).

When The Moon Hits Your Eye..........2000-06-15

A definite must-have for anyone interested in selenology (the geology of the Moon)- it is the (if not the, then close to) definitive book. Possibly a little dated, with respect to the information gathered from the Lunar Prospector and Clementine missions, but without a doubt, a superb text to have. Be warned, though - chunky and _very_ technical - not for the faint of heart.

Conspicuous consumption.......2007-08-23

The MacGregor heroes in the 3 tales herein are all young, healthy, extremely handsome, well-situated financially, and successful at their occupations. Their female counterparts are all gorgeous, vibrant, sexy, young, talented, and successful. The men meet the women, sparks fly for a short time, a bedroom scene ensues, and marriage results. That's pretty much it for the plots. It's the standard for Ms. Roberts.

What I find fascinating is the insistance upon what Thorstein Veblen called "conspicuous consumption, i.e., the owning, acquiring or doing things to show others that you are financially well situated and/or do not have to do useful physical labor. Ms. Roberts insists upon telling us about the expensive wines, furniture, carpeting, rare books, clothing, education, food, restaurants, jewelry, vehicles, etc. that the men have. The characters have amassed these things with apparent ease and take them as a matter of course. Ojala, as they say in Spain. All this may make for a good story to some readers, but it is unrealistic.

The entire proposition becomes cloying after a bit. One knows exactly what to expect and when to expect it. Nonetheless, the stories are somewhat redeemed by the atmosphere--the art studio, the gambling riverboat, the bookstore. Still, I wish there were more to these stories. They could have been so much better with a little sand in the machinery.

Another Great Installment.......2007-04-28

I love the MacGregors series. The charactors are wonderfully well written and interesting. I don't know what's more fun watching how Daniel carefully sets up his children and grandchildren with the woman that's perfect for them or them trying out manouver Daniel's matchmaking attempts yet always failing. The MacGregor Grooms has Daniel matchmaking three of his grandsons D.C., Duncan and Ian. All three completely different from each other and interesting. D.C. former first son and artist, riverboat casino runner Duncan and lawyer Ian. The women Daniel finds are just the same Layna, singer Cat, and bookstore owner Naomi. You will not be disappointed.

The MacGregor is incomparable!.......2005-08-26

I just love the MacGregor series!! He is such a wonderful and well-developed character. If you haven't read the book where he and his wife, Anna, meet, pick it up!! You will learn so much more about him and about Anna who is also a terrific character.

The three oldest grandsons are now Daniel MacGregor's marriage targets. First he conspires with an old friend who is both D.C. MacGregor's godmother as well as godmother to Layna Drake of Drake Department stores. D.C. has moved back to the Washington, DC area from California and other places. Being an artist, he does love to move around and has finally come back to Washington, DC where he mostly grew up in the White House. D.C. is sloppy and in the few months he has been back has not even finished unpacking. He often forgets to eat or wash dishes or do laundry unless he has to!! His grandfather calls him and asks him as a favor to his godmother and Daniel's friend to escort Layna to a charity dinner. In the meantime, Layna's godmother/Daniel's friend is telling Layna that D.C. needs a date to this charity dinner and would she please let D.C. escort her? Layna is unsure of herself and not warm, loving and passionate like D.C. as he grew up in a home and extended family filled with love whereas Layna parents carried on a "civilized" marriage of basically keeping out of each other's ways and having affairs as long as they were discreet. Sparks fly when they meet and dislike each other on sight. A wonderful story.

Duncan Blade is the son of Justin Blade and Serena MacGregor who together own several hotel/casinos in places like Las Vegas and Atlantic City. He is part Comanche as well and has setup recently a riverboat called the Comanche Princess to go up and down the Mississippi with guests coming to stay for one port-to-port hop or for a whole week's run. Duncan provides gambling, good food, music and entertainment for his guests of the highest quality. His headliner act quit so he has Cat Farrell coming onboard at his brother's and grandfather's recommendation. Cat is a torch singer who grew up on the rough streets of Chicago's South Side. She is beautiful and unsure of how she fits in with Duncan's world.

Last we have Ian MacGregor,son of Diana Blade and Caine MacGregor who own a law firm together. Caine was his brother Alan's Attorney General so Ian is used to dealing with all kinds of people. As a favor to his grandfather, instead of mailing partnership papers he was drawing up for Naomi Brightstone, Ian goes to the store so he can pick up and order some rare books for Daniel. He meets Naomi and is immediately impressed with the confident business woman who is shy in other areas of life. They have a very interesting courtship.

A fun book that can be re-read!
