This POS masquerading as a business book should be banned by all. Do the authors realize employers don't need to do anything at all to get workers? This is a book for another era, and a bad one at that.

FANTASTIC!.......2001-09-03

Can't understand what the others are bellyaching about-I found this to be a quick entertaining read that was full of great ideas and suggestions. Unlike the multitude of other books about fostering fun and creativity in the workplace that try to pretend that they are speaking of a finely-tuned science with complex procedures-this book says it like it is-it's just fun!
If you need an in-depth how-to book to have fun at work, trust me, this is the least of your problems.
I took the suggestions for the "obstacle course race" and we had a fantastic time in my office-everyone came out of their "shells" (cubicles rather) and joined in the fun...there were people there that I didn't even know had a sense of humor...
If you are looking for some long-winded analytical study of the concept of fun at work for the sake of fostering productivity and morale go elsewhere-this is just simple fun, fun to read, fun ideas, and fun to practice...

Work Can Still Be Fun.......2001-08-31

I have a small business and we have had to tighten our belts in this economy. The book gave me some good ideas of things to do to keep our team together and to maintain our productivity. We have already started implementing a lot of the things mentioned. I found the book fun and an easy read, yet ideas like the Hierarchy of Fun concept took me back to some of the basics that I have forgotten during these lean times.

As with most "sequels", this one falls far short of the original. Perhaps it's due to a lack of creative energy that permeated the first book. And I noticed that Mr. Hemsath had to write one of his own reviews. I guess that says something for the author.

Lists, quotes and corporate anecdotes pretty much sum up this book. It's light reading and quirky, but I didn't walk away with a single idea to take to my team at work.

This book is an excellent read. It is very informative. I enjoyed the book even more because it was simple to read. The techniques given are easy to understand and follow.The section on detoxing was clear cut. It also gives different ways of detoxing your body. The book is filled with different methods of getting and keeping our bodies healthy. It is great to have such an informative book written for African Americans. Basically I have enjoyed the book so much,that I am now buying one for a friend. This is a book that I would definitely tell friends to buy.

This book was quite informative and easy to read and easy apply the doctor's recommendations. I've purchased several of Dr. Weil's books but I was quite impressed that this book is tailored toward problems associated with my ethnic group - this was important to me.

They also respond very quickly to your requests online if you have questions. I would suggest that anyone buying this book not use it to replace their current therapies but to augment it. Can't wait for the second edition!

A practical guide to promoting good health.......1999-02-12

I enjoyed the realistic approach to good health in this book. He balances the best that natural health methods has to offer with the current methods of western medicine. The authors have a concern for the african american family that comes out in their encoouragement to employ sound methods of preventing the diseases most common in the black family. A must have on each families bookshelf!

Description:
A description is given of the preparation and properties of potassium hexacyanocobalt (II) ferrate (II) (KCFC) and the composite, potassium hexacyanocobalt (II) ferrate (II)-polyacrylonitrile (KCFC-PAN). The materials were dried at high temperatures and characterized by chemical analysis, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, inductively coupled plasma and infrared. The ion exchange of alkaline earth metals and molybdenum on a nonstoichiometric compound K"2[CoFe(CN)"6] and its PAN based absorber was examined by batch methods. The adsorption of molybdenum from aqueous solutions on KCFC-PAN was investigated and optimized as a function of equilibration time and pH. The materials which were dried at optimum high temperature of 110^oC were found to be stable in water, dilute acids, alkaline solutions and relatively high temperature. The distribution coefficient values K"d for alkaline earth metals, followed the same trend of increase for both sets of absorbers studied, i.e. Ba^2^+>Sr^2^+>Ca^2^+>Mg^2^+, which closely resembles to the order of the size of the hydrated cations. However, the K"d values show a significant increase for PAN based absorbers in comparison to KCFC absorbers.

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in process technologies that are used in chipmaking. The chapters are organized well and points are explained in a clear concise way. I am a chemistry major and this book helped me get started in my first job in a chipmaking company.

Ending leaves a lot to be desired.......2007-05-27

It took awhile for me to get through this book. The writing was okay, but it was not one of those "I can't put this book down" type. I hated the ending. It left me empty. I expected a lot more. What happened with the plot? I felt like the storyline was all over the place and not centered. It just seemed to jump all over the place. It's like trying to put a puzzle together and you find that you have lost one or two pieces of it to make it complete. Very disappointing indeed.

I love Patchett's writing style. Unfortunately, it carried me through this story that otherwise I would have long abandoned. The L.A. characters - Sabine and Parsifal and Phan - were all relentlessly perfect. The plot was dull. The ending was absurd. The Nebraska characters were a little more interesting, but with no plot for context, that didn't help much.

I can't get enough of Ann Patchett.......2007-01-20

The Magician's Assistant is one of the finest books I've ever read. I've read it twice and I've bought copies of the novel as gifts for family and friends. I've read three of Ms. Patchett's fiction novels and one non-fiction novel. It never fails to amaze me how quickly I get to know her characters...it's almost an intimate relationship. By the time I'm through reading each novel (and I try to read them slowly), I'm sad. It's as if I'm parting with a dear friend.

(4.5): The Newest Literary Gem.......2006-12-13

Ann Patchett writes the way writer's dream about being able to write. With "Bel Canto," she saw her career take off, but it's here, with "The Magician's Assistant ," that we see her true ability to convey emotions using such simple language. She truly is one of the great voices of our generation.

The story starts (and according to our narrator) ends with the death of Parsifal, a gay magician whose assistant, Sabine, is the protagonist of the story. What unfolds is her discovery that the Parsifal she knew was a reinvented person who was originally named Guy and lived in Nebraska, a far cry from his lavish lifestyle in L.A. as a magician who had been featured on the Tonight Show and a successful rug merchant. We learn all about what casues him to run away from home and we are provided with insights into what life is like for those individuals who dazzle us with pulling rabbits out of a hat or levitating different people before our very eyes.

The emotional core of the store revolves around Sabine's mourning intersecting with Guy's family who have not seen him for over 18 years. What Patchett expertly does is portray the way grief affects all of us. I really could go on and on about how wonderful a book this is, but it's the kind of thing you have to experience for yourself.

This is a must read.
