This is a valuable resource for any doctor's office. I use it every day. It is very clearly and logically written.

Beware of CD-ROM.......2005-08-23

This series of books have been very helpful in my practice. I currently use the 6th edition. I was excited that the Spanish translation for handouts is included on the CD-ROM. However, there is one crucial difference: With the 6th edition the contents can be INSTALLED on your computer (and the CD then stored). Then topics can be searched and printed per PDF files/Acrobat reader. In the 6th edition, each topic print out is ONE page. HOWEVER, with the 7th edition, the CD-ROM MUST BE in the cd drive to work. This ties up that drive and is very inconvenient in a busy practice, if you have other uses for that drive. In the 7th edition, the printouts can be THREE pages long, consuming much more paper!

Intended to be a compendium of handouts for physicians to give to patients, Griffith's Instructions provides information on a wide variety of illnesses. From croup to tooth grinding, this book covers maladies both small, i.e. indigestion, and large, i.e. congestive heart failure, in a consistent, matter-of fact presentation. All of the perforated, pull out discussions include basic descriptions of the illness, including the frequent signs and symptoms, a brief synopsis of possible causes, risks, preventative measures, expected outcomes, and possible complications. Treatments are also discussed through both general measures and medications with notes on recommended activity and diet. The 6th edition revises and updates all of the problems that patients regularly bring to their doctors discussed in the 5th edition and adds more than twenty new ones.

Extensive appendices provide diets, including the latest food pyramid guidelines, daily values, nutrition data and specific diet regimes. There are also a plethora of diagrams and instructions for wellness, such as how to perform breast and testicular self-exams. Unlabeled diagrams of the body, ranging from eye to the endocrine system (both male and female) are also provided.

Don't let this be your first Cussler book.......2007-08-16

Look, this is a very early work - and the edges are really rough. The writing is pretty stilted. The plot plays games with the reader. The attitude towards women is really wretched. It isn't a terribly good book by any measure. Read this book if you are already a Cussler fan and you want to explore his early works. Don't read this as your first exposure to Cussler. You might well not give him a second chance - and some of his other books are really quite good. My personal favorites are _Raise the Titanic_ and _Night Probe_. Those are also pretty early efforts, but even a couple of books past _The Mediterranean Caper_ he had settled down into a pretty darned effective writer who could tell a good tale without totally annoying the average reader. If you already gave this book a try and hated it - try one of the above two before you give up on Cussler entirely.

very good book to read easy to follow along with the plot. not for kids thought there are some adult situations in it. please read pacific vortex first even though mr. cussler wrote this first. pacific vortex is really the first book. there is a women they disscussed breifly in the begin that is in pacific vortex.

More Dirk Pitt.......2006-12-27

Story that seems to transport plane enthusiasts back in time to the days of bi-planes and the First World War. Many of the important components are there: guns, bombs, planes and a woman. Great read.

Good mix of action and history.......2006-08-02

The Mediterranean Caper by Clive Cussler is my first Dirk Pitt novel and it has encouraged me to read the rest of the series.

The book revolves around a major in the US Air Force, Dirk Pitt. This man travels around the world solving problems for NUMA (a research branch). When in Greece, a WWI plane attacks the main base and destroys the planes. Dirk must find out what in the world is going on. He faces over whelming odds, but that does not stop this hero.

I found this book to be a little too fast. The character kinda jumped around. In one scene Dirk is in a tunnel, yet it is hard to tell how he got there.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a nice relaxing read. The book is a page-turner.

A good first try.......2006-07-29

It is easy to tell that this is Cussler's first Pitt novel. His writing hasn't matured at this point.

If you're a Clive Cussler fan, this should be your Holy Book.
Wayne Valero is a champion of his craft. The amount of effort and dedication he put into this work boggles the mind. It is, quite simply, the most detailed -- entertaining and even scholary -- approach to Cussler's work. EVERY single edition has been meticulously documented and served in a mouth-watering dressing of accompanying facts and notes.
The bibliography delivers everything you might expect -- and then some. Wayne Valero provides a running commentary on various Cussler-related topics -- from the Grandmaster's trademark style that impacted the genre, to insight on the Raise the Titanic movie script.
This 376-page book is crammed with value.

The recipes are simple and delicious. If you're an amatuer like me, you'll appreciate the simplicity and beauty of these recipes. You can plan a multi-course meal from this book.

The book is sturdily bound and well indexed. It's small enough that it doesn't get in the way sitting on a kitchen shelf. It's beautifully photographed (over 2 dozen photos). The first 30-or-so pages discuss the production and nature of the basic ingredients (olives, anchovies, and capers). Then there are 3 sections: appetizers and salads; main dishes; and spreads, sauces, and breads. There is a metric/English unit conversion table at the back of the book. Most of the ingredients are available at any fine market; nevertheless, the book also includes a list of sources for exotica.
