I have found this book to be useless, and not a bit better than the Quicken help facility. Every single time I have tried to use this book, I have not even been able to find what I'm looking for in the index. Save your money.

More perfunctory than anticipated and contains errors.......1998-05-03

At least one window (Create Scheduled Transactions) is missing a button description (GROUP). The book does not address this at all. I could not find out whether it is possible to archive data in the registers and then remove it to reduce the number of online transactions. Does not address performance or configuration optimization as I thought a "Mastering" book would. I anticipated more in-depth coverage which would satisfy an audience already familiar with Quicken.

This book is an excellent resource for both the practitioner and the researcher with an interest in occupational stress. As a stress researcher, I have referred to this book many times and my questions are almost always answered. In addition, it has an unusally extensive reference listing that covers virtually the entire spectrum of academic literature in the field of occupational stress. This book adds real value.

It helps to get in shape for step 2 -3 and also briefly touches almost all things you will see on wards. 3rd Edition has also Pics and bigger letter size. I would consider the book as a must. Comes in also at a decent price.

I used this book a little prior to step 2's, but I put it in my regular cycle prior to step 3's, and I did really well. I probably read this book (or it's older sibling) 5 times through prior to step 3's in my downtime. It got me through. Good questions at the end of every section, reasonable pictures when they need it, and easy to follow tables. Overall, quick read, concise, gets you a good start to find the areas you need help in. This book can help you too.

I'm somebody who used several different sources in my review for all 3 steps. This turned out to be an excellent resource to use in conjunction with blueprints books, First Aid, and Prescription for the Boards for step 2 review. This would also not be a bad book to review while on clinical rotations.

comprehensive AND brief.......2006-05-05

This book packs a tremendous amount of information into a tiny package. It is great for Step 2 CK review. I used this in conjunction with the UCV series and achieved excellent results. However, the information is packed in a very dense fashion and is not suitable in my opinion for primary reading. As a review, on the other hand, it is second to none.

Straight answers to cosmic questions.......2004-10-25

This book is a must in every amateur astronomer's bookshelf. Freshmen following a first course in cosmology may also find this book useful as a first intuitive approach to the field. The author is extremely clear in his explanations and he reminds me the writing style of French Canadian Hubert Reeves, one of the most famous cosmology writers for the general public.
Structuring the book with "questions" is an extremely useful approach for those trying to demystify space and time.

This book is very well written as far as scientific material is concerned. Having a very funadmantal understanding of such concepts as the Big Bang would prove to be helpful while reading, but not once was I utterly confused. The book is jam-packed with useful info and data. Kudos to Richard Morris for a fine book.

This book gives an overview of the numerical data analysis and signal treatment techniques that are used in chromatography and related separation techniques. Emphasis is given to the description of the symmetrical and asymmetrical chromatographic peak shape models. Both theoretical and empirical models are discussed.

The fundamentals of data acquisition, types and effect of baseline noise, and methods of improving the signal-to-noise ratio (either in time or in frequency and wavelet domain) are thoroughly discussed. Resolution enhancement techniques, such as curve fitting, deconvolution by Fourier and wavelet transforms, iterative deconvolution, Kalman filtering and multivariate methods of curve resolution are all discussed with several chromatographic examples. Quantitative analysis by peak area of peak height measurement, the precision and accuracy of the quantitation of stand-alone or overlapping and symmetrical or asymmetrical peaks are treated. In a separate chapter, guidelines are given for the use of transform techniques for the analysis of chromatograms.

A statistical description of peak overlap is given in the final chapters. Since the concept of resolution has to be reconsidered when one separates complex mixtures, the problem of resolution and overlap is quantitatively discussed by means of statistical methods, and by using Fourier analysis of the complex chromatogram.

Be careful when buying this book. It is really a repackaging of two of his earlier best sellers in one cover. The title is so similar that it appears to be a new offering but it is really LA Dead and Cold Paradise in one cover. I was fooled. I'm not very happy by the slick packaging and misleading title. I felt cheated when I received the book Dead Paradise, because it's two books in one, and I'D READ BOTH, LA Dead and Cold Paradise! I re-read Cold Paradise because I didn't want to go to the trouble of sending it back.

Dead Man in Paradise is one of the best books I have ever read in my life.......2005-12-06

This book is incredible. MacKinnon follows family history in this incredible piece of literary nonfiction. His uncle was a Catholic priest, murdered by police officers in the Dominican Republic in the 60s. The police were immediately shot by an army officer. Forty years later he tries to unravel what actually happened.

The thing that blew me away most was that I could feel him struggle with a foreign language in a different country. I have lived overseas as well, and his writing took me right back to the feeling of pressure inside my head, as I tried to understand. As the book progresses, the pressure diminishes. Truly spectacular writing.

I tried to take it slow, to savour the book, but I finally gave up and tore through it in a day and a half. I am going to reread it this winter.

The Heroic Soul.......2006-10-29

Taking a quick look at the cover of Mark Paradise's novel God's Assassins, one might be misled. Such a cursory glance could easily give the impression that this is yet another Christian apocalyptic novel and it involves the Knights Templar to boot. As if we haven't had enough of books in either category recently! Such characterizations are true - the novel is in the Christian apocalyptic vein and it does involve the Knights Templar. But the similarities end there. Indeed, if you are dreading more of the cardboard characters that inhabit the fictional worlds of Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins or the crackpot conspiracy theories of Dan Brown, then you may breathe a sigh of relief.

Indeed, God's Assassins is far more than anyone would have expected. Mark Paradise has written a marvelous tale of intrigue, excitement, but also of holiness amidst a world gone mad. The Knights Templar - the heroes of this tale - are no Hallmark greeting card saints. These are fallen men whose holiness comes from having been called by God to something greater than their often sordid pasts.

Paradise centers his story on the character John Mills, a one-time mercenary of the French Foreign Legion with a violent past who is called by God for the a single purpose. He is drawn to lead the remnant of the Knights Templar is their greatest mission with the immediate future of humanity hanging in the balance. Yet this is not a mere adventure story - the tensest moments are often provided not by the scenes of action but those of self-struggle. The final victory depends not on the actions of any one man but the purification of the soul in preparing for the epic struggle.

The book is replete with themes that are anathema to the mindset of the contemporary culture: chastity, self-sacrfice, humility, and suffering. Through the struggles he endures, John Mills not only finds his way to salvation but to virtue. The line between virtue and vice is presented as one that can become blurred when one allows oneself to be seduced by the destructive allure of the wider path but is crystal clear when viewed eternally. Nowhere is this more telling than when Paradise deals with the angelic hosts whose eternal fate came down to one decision.

God's Assassins is not a book for those who shudder at the mention of violence. There are some extremely violent scenes in the book but not gratuitously so. Christianity is not, contrary to the popular image, merely a faith of passivity but one of spiritual warfare against principalities and powers. Mark Paradise has given us a truly Christian apocalyptic novel that avoids the triviality of so many in that genre. In the development of his characters, Paradise avoids the temptation to make his characters action heroes and instead presents those who are heroic in their souls. The result is one of the most satisfying works of Christian fiction in recent memory.
