Customer Reviews:
Dr. Ro delivers a great message-it's time for us to listen!.......2007-02-27
Thank you, Dr. Ro, for your timely and on-point message about African American women and health. We are sadly losing too many African American women needlessly from poor eating habits, sedentary living and lack of self-care. This is an issue that we can longer ignore! It's time to stop talking about the problem and really do something about it. Dr. Ro's book, Ten Secrets to Livin' Healthy is a must read for every African American woman. Her book outlines a gimmick-free, no-nonsense plan that can save your life as well as those you love. I love Chapter 5 entitled "Heart Disease Begins at Six". How scary is that? Monitoring our children's diets and activity levels is so important. Thank you, Dr. Ro, for your commitment to saving the lives and livelihoods of African American women who may not have the time, interest or ability to seek out this information. Kudos to you!
More good information for a healthy lifestyle.......2006-07-19
My main focus is to change my lifestyle and not just "diet" and this book gave me some information that I found to be an all around educational reading
Very Informative!.......2006-07-17
This book was a little repetitive, but all in all.... very informative!!!! This book is similar to the 3 hour diet.
humor and diet.......2005-10-04
Contains a wealth of knowledge of diet and nutrition and several interesting recipes that I have already tried. The book is well written and the author has a sense of humor. I only wish there were more recipes. I am white and unfamiliar with some of the food, but I am having a wonderful time learning. It is fun to go to the supermarket and seek out some of these products. I enjoyed the book thoroughly.

Book Description
In recent years, a vast amount of cosmological data has come from well known projects such as the Hubble Space Telescope and the Cosmic Background Explorer. This book seeks to explain and make sense of this array of observational data.
Customer Reviews:
Relates observation to theory.......2002-11-11
An excellent follow on read for anyone who wants to test or compare theories of cosmology. The only book on cosmology I've read which fesses up to the biases introduced by observer error and sample selection. A must for undergraduates considering graduate school in astrophysics or astronomy.
Two caveats that are applicable to almost all texts in the field: needed is a one- or two-page glossary at the end for all acronyms and repeated symbols; the author does not appear to be keeping the text's accompanying web-page up to date.
excellent summary of modern cosmology.......1998-09-05
the writer provides and detailed yet concise discussion on the subject of modern cosmology. the path the writer leads you through is as he describes "following the data", a easy path to follow. i recommend this book for the professional and advanced lay person. one added benefit the author has thought of is a web site were you can get updated information. the author in doing this has created a dynamic book that will not be informationaly out of date for some time.

Customer Reviews:
Not a bad book.......2006-06-10
This is an excellent book for studying physics but not for preparing SAT 2 physics. However this book is a little harder than the real test.
Decent Book.......2005-05-27
I found this book decent. One MAJOR complaint I have is that the problems at the end of each chapter are much too difficult and are not useful because they are too specific and will never be tested on the exam. The questions make you recall often specific formulas that won't be on the SAT II.
Also, some of the concepts covered in the book are superfluous or too far in depth. My suggestion is to use the SparkNotes Physics SAT II for review and then practice tests in this book. I haven't looked at any other review sources besides Princeton Review and SparkNotes, however out of those two I recommend the SparkNotes because it is shorter and much easier to understand.
The best way, however to study, is to have a good physics textbook, a good teacher, and be confident in material you reviewed in class. Taking this exam by just using this book and having no other knowledge is a huge mistake.
In conclusion, my main problems are the chapter questions which are too specific and exam review which is often useless and also overly meticulous.
Very good book.......2004-07-08
I took the June 04 SAT II Physics after taking a freshman Honors Physics course. In this class we did not cover electricity, magnetism, nuclear physics, particle physics, or relativity.
I studied for about two and half months prior to the exam, maybe half an hour every day, and in the last month, an hour a day, and the last two weeks, two hours a day.
This book is very good as it is extremely thorough, and I found its explanations of uncovered topics to be quite helpful.
However, there was a lot of unnecessary material that was in the book. Rotational Kinematics and a lot of particle/nuclear physics were not covered in the least on the actual exam. I don't know if this is the standard for all tests or if the edition I took was an exception.
The practice tests were much harder than the actual thing. I received a 720 and 760 on the Princeton, and an 800 on the actual thing.
In addition to the Princeton Review, I used the Kaplan and Sparknotes books and studied them thoroughly, and I glossed over the Barrons. My suggestion for doing well? Use the Kaplans and work through that in the first month or so (it is not indepth, just provides the basic ideas, and the practice tests are a joke). Then, move onto the Princeton, and perhaps take a look at some of the Barrons problems as they are extremely hard and good. However, I would advise those not to use the Sparknotes as it is plagued with errors, although the material is very good.
Good luck to all those who take the Physics SAT II. If you are any good at Physics I would advise taking it as it is one of the more lenient SAT II's (Get 8 wrong, and you can still pull off an 800 or 790).
Cutting corners.......2004-05-24
Really, if you want to buy this book I'd suggest you buy the AP Physics Review published by Princeton Review instead. Why? Because its the SAME thing! The only difference is that they took out the Physics C-level stuff and scarped out all the free response questions. All the multiple choice are the same, and so are the review material (from the diagrams to the explaination).
Publisher Says No Errors Reported.......2004-05-13
I'm giving this review a decent score sight unseen because the publisher monitors errors, and none has been reported (per Random House Customer Service, 800-733-3000).
All the SAT prep books are surely produced under tight time and budget constraints, and so the availability of errata is an important attribute. I ask others to consider this in their reviews. Random House's system is cumbersome; many publishers could learn from O'Reilly's handling of this issue.

Not at Deveraux's best........2007-06-24
Jude Deveraux is my all-time favorite author, but this work is not up to par with her usual standards. When I pick up a Deveraux, I expect a fantastic love story. This seemed to me to be more of a "coming of age," but for a woman in her forties who never got the chance to "come of age" as a teenager. It was more about her growing up and realizing things about herself and her family than about the love.
I didn't think the mystery overshadowed everything else, and I thought the characters were well-developed, but they didn't seem to get anywhere in their relationships, except maybe for Eden's relationship with her daughter.
Also, am I the only one who thought "the other guy" was more suited to her than "the guy who got the girl"? I found myself frustrated with all the characters by the end of the book, and frustrated at the not-so-fairytale ending.
I didn't have trouble getting through the book, as I've seen other people say, but I was certainly a little disappointed in it, as I have been with several of her latest contemporary novels. (Holly and Carolina Isle come to mind.) I find myself wishing the old Jude would come back.
Couldn't Put It Down.......2007-02-15
I am proud to admit I am a fan of Jude Deveraux, but this book was better than the rest I have read. The heroine was believable. The story kept me trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I was surprised to the very last page. If you like Jude's books, you will love this one.
A hard time staying focused.......2007-02-14
Overall,I thought the premise of the story showed promise. What I found, after forcing my way through reading, was that the plot is not up to Jude's normal standards. The theme seems to drag and it's hard to stay intereseted when the plot changes so very much and so drastically every five pages. I also found he lack of romance a bit disappointing. It really didn't feel like there was enough of the charecters interactions to understand them. It's definitely not her useual style. Her romance writing style is what I like so much about herbooks, and I saw none of it at all.
Nancy Drew.......2006-11-19
If you loved Nancy Drew as a kid, you will love this adult version. It absolutely took me back to those days when I couldn't wait to read what happened next and solve the mystery - only this one has an adult twist.
Just OK.......2006-11-08
I am a huge fan of Jude's. However, this book rambled along. If your looking for humor like you are used to seeing in her older books, you won't find much of it in this one. The supporting characters weren't very supporting with the exception of the leading man (not men). This book is worthwhile to check out from the library though.
Customer Reviews:
the action behind marvel.......2001-12-19
i got the book, opened it in my car and spent half an hour fliiping through it until i realized that i had to get to the office...finished it that evening!
i liked the whole concept and found out a lot (!) of interesting information about marvel, the people behind it, the philosophies, the characters.
the book is easy to read and easy to use.
i dropped off one star from the rating because, in the end, it is rather shallow and there were times when i wanted more information but there just wasn't any.
a good read.
THAT'S ALL ABOUT THE ART.......2001-11-22
The incredible reprinted art from a lot of old comics makes this book worthwhile. The text is very, very weak.
SERIOUS FLAWS.......2001-11-19
THis book is a very generic portrait of Marvel, with one serious flaw: the book is edited by Marvel itself. This means that the writer, altough a real expert in comic book history, could not deal with all the subjects in a neutral way all the time. So, what we have is, generally, praise after praise for this mighty (with justice) company, but no real insight into their history. Of course, there is not space for such, since the book is crowded with magnific art from various artists and various comics. I think it lacked appendices, which could have lists of Marvel's greates artists, MArvel's greatest selling books, Marvel's greates histories. The book is also clearly outdated, since it was first published in 1992. Since then, there was the "mutiny" from the artists (Silvestri, Jim Lee and McFarlane, amongst others) who left to form their own company; the writer, altough mentions it, doesn't explain why Stan Lee, whose role in the company since 1980 is to supervise adaptations to movies and animated features, permitted such lousy adaptations as THE PUNISHER, for example. It does not touch the fact of how the artists were totally underpaid until Jim Shooter was Editor-In-Chief, nor how Lee permitted one editor after another to resign due to the sheer impossibility of editing 54 books at the same time. All in all, this book is great for the art, but for text PEter Sanderson's work, MARVEK UNIVERSE, is better.
JACK! STAN! JOE! GENE! AND FANTASTIC FOUR #51, TOO!!!.......2001-07-13
MARVEL:FIVE FABULOUS DECADES is a long book with a lot of details that the average comic fan isn't interested in, but what I liked the most about it was the analysis of the work of Jack "The King" Kirby, Stan "The Man" Lee, Gene "The Dean" Colan, and INKER SUPREME Joe Sinnott!
But what made an overwhelming impression on me about this book--and forced me to give it 5 stars!!!--was the surprise appearance of FANTASTIC FOUR #51--"This Man, This Monster"-- right in the middle of the book, a comic book I had never seen before, and probably one of the top 4 FANTASTIC FOUR ISSUES EVER MADE!!!

MARVEL;Five Fabulous Decades.......2001-05-11
I found this a must read.It explores the origins of Marvel Comics like no other book.Included is rare pictures of comics Marvel Comics no#1 to the later 1990'S material. It also shows you the P.T.Burnum Genious of Stan Lee and common sense of what is wanted by the public by founder Martin Goodman. It also shows how the likes of Roy Thomas kept Marvel afloat in latter Silver Age and how hard a job Mark Gruenward tried to survive in the post Yuppie Darth Shooter Marvel-when comic showmanship of Stan the Man had left-taking Marvels Soul with them, without saying much, but implying alot.Rare Namor,FF and Wolverine material is also added in back, along a how too comic lesson.Fun rEADING FOR ALL COMIC FANS.joseph gilbert thompson.maveric comics inc,studios,6142 torresdale avenue,phila,pa,19135.
