This is a very excellent review of urology for the general public. It is very comprehensive,yet easy to read and understand. The illustrations are also extremely helpful. This book should be a standard to every man and woman since it deals with the common health problems that many men and their spouses encounter. The information is very up to date and is presented in a extremely interesting and informative fashion. I would very highly recommend this to all.

Since the discovery of the cluster soft excess (CSE) over eight years ago, its properties and origin have been the subject of debate. With the recent launch of new missions such as XMM-Newton and FUSE, we are beginning to answer some of the complex issues regarding the phenomenon. This conference proceedings is an attempt to bring together the latest research results and covers both observational and theoretical work on the CSE and related topics. One of the main topics is the possible relationship between the CSE and the warm-hot intergalactic medium (WHIM), which is believed to harbor 50% of the baryons in the near Universe. New data from both XMM-Newton and FUSE have indicated a possible causal link between the WHIM and CSE. Evidence is based on the apparent detection of O VII emission lines in the soft excess spectrum of the outskirts of several clusters, as well as reports of absorption lines at local and higher redshifts (seen in the spectra of distant sources) as signature of the WHIM. However, while there has been considerable optimism in attributing a substantial fraction of the cluster soft excess flux to WHIM emission, other work shows that, for example, the amount of WHIM material predicted by theoretical simulations falls way short of that necessary to account for the CSE. Other work indicates that at the cores of some cluster this excess emission is so strong, it is impossible to invoke the thermal model without at the same time enlisting radically new physics. Thus alternative interpretations involving non-thermal processes are also reported and being pursued in earnest. Whatever the origin of CSE may turn out to be, results in this book show that it has become beyond reasonable doubt that the phenomenon itself is observationally established. This book reports the scientific progress made by bringing together scientists from a wide range of disciplines. It clearly demonstrates the importance of such meetings and participants if we are to solve this puzzle. This volume is aimed at scientists and graduate students in astronomy who want to learn about the latest results on cluster soft excess observations and theoretical implications.

Fun to read.......2007-08-10

I enjoy books that take you away to someone else's crazy life. With all the stress in my life I enjoyed the funny wit and humor. You know with chick lit that this is not going to be a serious drama, just a fun read. I have read all her books and think she has gotten better with each book. I love that she ties her British history into her books, although I don't always get the slang, but I enjoy it. I wish she was still alive to give us more of her work.

fun, and feisty, but overwritten with extraneous detail........2005-12-16

I thought this would have made a great fun novel about half this length. It is fun and feisty but gets bogged down with so much detail which I found a grind to get through. It is all based a misconception. Harriet meets John in the street when she sees him with her old school nemesis. They have clearly been on a date, but he John is kisses the nemesis goodbye and then notices Harriet. When Harriet loses her wallet it is a good excuse to get to know him better.

John uses the old excuse that he has only been out with the other woman "3 or 4 times" which Harriet knows is untrue because through old school gossip she knows her nemesis is furious and has got the detectives out on John to find out just who has 'stolen' her boyfriend.

There are all sorts of other things going on in their lives which I found difficult to care about - the flatmates like Jacko who seems more interested in every other woman, a visiting spoilt girl, christmas, etc. I just found the endless detail on it seemed more like filler details than parallel stories.

In fact that was the thing I found most frustrating, the whole novel seemed to be full of filler detail, even the Harriet/John relationship. It didn't have much substance. I felt the author was trying for a Marian Keyes/Jilly Cooper style and fell far short.

Perhaps this is just me, but I also don't get much pleasure out of characters arguing with one another - it doesn't make me think they are going to fall in love, and while the arguing was fairly low key, it was still teeth-grating stuff for me.

Anyway, the ending is nice, they fall in love, all the misunderstandings are ironed out - John is actually a really good guy and he really had only been out with the nemsis a couple of times - and they live......well read the book to find out. It is light reading stuff if you want to spend a few hours escaping (and who doesn't?) and you have run out of Marian Keyes.

About time!.......2005-08-28

This is was such a nice surprise. Read it in a day as I flew cross-country and sat in waiting room hell. Really fresh writing, great characters, and a lovely resolution, The plot is somewhat predictable, but with chick-lit I'm not looking for unexpected resolutions, I like that the girl gets her man and that messy lives get tidied up in the end.
I think this author has great pacing and wonderful British voice that is very fun to read after the increasingly cynical choices in the American chick-lit market.

Fun Read .......2004-10-27

I read Young's "Asking for Trouble" and did not care for it, so I started this book with some apprehension. I am halfway through it now and must admit that it is much better than "Trouble." It even had me laughing out loud on several occassions. Young uses a lot of British slang in her books, so if someone isn't familiar with the words it may get a bit confusing. I have been enjoying the book and can't wait to see how it ends.

A Remarkable Work on a Remarkable Man.......2000-08-22

You can best judge a person by the company he keeps; and in Clyde Wilson's case he has been keeping very good company indeed.

In this book, the editor of the papers of John Calhoun tells the story of one of the defenders of Calhoun's principles, James Johnston Pettigrew. The portrait is of a man who is engaging and noble.

When you visit Gettysburg, stand at the North Carolina monument and gaze across the field at the copse of trees; you will be standing at the spot where Pettigrew and his men began their march to glory. As Wilson's portrait of Pettigrew makes clear, and as any serious and honest student of the struggle for Southern independence should know, these were men who fought for a variety of reasons. In Pettigrew's case, it was to preserve a substantial measure of the world that America had inherited from Europe against a foe bent on destroying that world in the name of an abstract principle.

These were not, in short and contrary to the simplistic explanations of the conflict that dominate public discourse today, men who marched into the cannon's mouth with dreams of masters whipping slaves in their hearts. On the contrary, they were men who believed fervently that they were resisting the tyranny of a government that was fighting to keep them where they would rather not be; and in this, they, not Lincoln and his generals, were the real heirs of the American Revolution.

It is through reading the work of scholars like Professor Wilson that we can honestly approximate the reasons for this last (on the Confederate side) just as well as necessary war in America's story. For unlike this rather partisan review, the book is soberly written and the story unfolds in the measured tones of a man who has absorbed the lessons of his heroes.

One of the most overlooked sons of the South,whose early death is overshadowed his brilliant career, and what could have been, some said he could have been president ,nothing was impossible, this little book gives a good impression of a man worthy of much more attention than been given, i can only recommend it, and hope that you will bring it home and treasure it for many years to come.Christian (Denmark)
