Not worth the money.......2004-07-07
This book is absolutely not worth the money. Although some of the content is worthwhile, the formatting makes it virtually impossible to wade through. For example, the text is 14 pt Times, 1.5 line spacing, justified, with no additional white space between paragraphs, so everything runs together. Plus, first level headings aren't always at the top of the page, so you know when a new topic is being started.
In my opinion (and I have more than a few years technical writing experience), this whole book could be shrunk down to a 25 page report, using standard fonts and formatting.
This author doesn't have a clue as to how to put information into logical, easy-to-follow "chunks" that a reader can digest. If this book is an example of his training course writing ability (and that is exactly what it is), I give him a "D."
Creating Training Courses when you're not a trainer.......2001-05-22
Poorly designed book (who picked that font?) Difficult to read. It covers the basics but I've seen other books that do the same much better.
Must-Have Primer for Designers and Trainers!.......2000-09-18
If you're a beginner in the field of instructional design or training, McCain's book is a must-have and a quick-read that you will turn to again. It cuts to the chase with step-by-step instructions that take a training newbie through the essential phases of designing a training course: Design, Development, and Delivery, including checklists for each phase. I found the section on facilitation skills for trainers especially helpful. The book is short, concisely worded, and practical--just the ticket if you're new to the field.

Websites Made Easy at Last.......2007-01-03
Leave it to the Microsoft folks to figure out just how to explain to the general populace how to create a website without going all geeky or making me feel like my IQ was less than room temperature. A well-balanced manual with easy to follow exercises.
EXCELLENT FOR BEGINNERS.......2002-12-20
I consider myself to be very computer literate, but my experience lies in using programs, not creating them. I have great skills on other MS Office products, but the few times I'd played with FrontPage ended in frustration. Finally, with an urge to increase my skillset, I acquired this book and took the dive.
I went through the book in four days and completed all the projects. This book is very well designed and the coursework progresses logically. I've seen too many self-learning books that ask a reader to read a later chapter in order to understand what to do in an earlier chapter. That's not efficient. This book is!
Word of warning: I noticed a few errors in the book that might frustrate novice self-learners. Sometimes a small, but critical, step is left out of the explanation. If you don't realize the ommission, you could waste a lot of time trying to figure out what went wrong. Other than that, I highly recommend this book.
Excellent Starting Point for FrontPage 2000.......2001-01-21
I have been hacking at FrontPage for quite awhile with little sucess. This book tells you the what and how you need to get started. I like this book because there is almost no extraneous content. I read through it and had the sample web site done in two days. Then I went back and did it one more time. This book is worth buying.
Comprehensive training guide.......2000-04-27
This is ideal for anyone who, like me, has absolutely no idea where to start. Its basic instruction coupled with a well planned tutorial keep the interest there and before you know it you've made your first site. There are a few errors which take a bit of working around and can be a bit bewildering to a complete novice. But in the main I strongly recommend this to anyone who just wants to learn the basics of web design.
Great Starting Point.......2000-02-02
Good book for starting, but does have some errors and not clear at times as to what the author is wanting you to do. But for the basics, it is one of the easiest books that I have read. Gets you up and going fast, and shows you the basics.
Some of the errors, typos and their screen, does not match yours. (Entered the work three times and still did not match). Plus if things don't match, the author does not tell you how to fix the problem or where to look.
Still all in all it is a good book to learn from.

Book Description
Gauge your readiness with a 150-question practice exam and Step 1-style 350-question post-test.
Book Description
Fundamentals of Astrodynamics and Applications is rapidly becoming the standard astrodynamics reference for those involved in the business of spaceflight. What sets this book apart is that nearly all of the theoretical mathematics is followed by discussions of practical applications implemented in tested software routines. For example, the book includes a compendium of algorithms that allow students and professionals to determine orbits with high precision using a PC. Without a doubt, when an astrodynamics problem arises in the future, it will become standard practice for engineers to keep this volume close at hand and `look it up in Vallado'.
While the first edition was an exceptionally useful and popular book throughout the community, there are a number of reasons why the second edition will be even more so. There are many reworked examples and derivations. Newly introduced topics include ground illumination calculations, Moon rise and set, and a listing of relevant Internet sites. There is an improved and expanded discussion of coordinate systems, orbit determination, and differential correction. Perhaps most important is that all of the software routines described in the book are now available for free in FORTRAN, PASCAL, and C. This makes the second edition an even more valuable text and superb reference.

Notes on Vallado's book.......2001-05-11
This is a book I would definitely recommend for those interested in the practical application of basic Astrodynamics. The only real problem is you have to double check the math since there are a fairly large number of errors in the computations. I especially like the discussions comparing and contrasting different methods and algorithms.
Admirable survey.......2000-04-20
This is a detailed text covering a broad collection of the most relevant topics, primarily aimed at engineers and engineering students practicing astrodynamic theory and orbit determination. It properly emphasizes that modern astrodynamics is now practiced on the computer, combining numerical methods with classical celestial mechanics to provide dozens of algorithms suitable for machine solution. It excels on two fronts: 1) it provides much generic "pseudo-code" (computer recipes) for writing subprograms, and 2) it touches on everything from Keplerian motion to estimation theory to atmospheric modeling for drag perturbations. Because it covers so much in under 1000 pages, the author does not fully derive all the algorithms. However, there is a fifteen page appendix of additional references, and the author's disarming writing style makes the text very approachable to the student. It is well illustrated with excellent diagrams and numerous tables, and much of the notation (equations and symbols) is standardized with other textbooks in this field.
Being a 1st edition, it has a few mistakes. There is a couple of noticeable equation typos and some numerical errors in a few of the many examples (the programmer will quickly discover these). There is probably undue emphasis on some minor topics, and likewise a few important concepts are sometimes briefly mentioned without clarity. Being so broad in scope, the reader is sometimes required to go from chapter to chapter to get the big picture or gather all the details. While this may be distracting at times, most of the needed information is there - few astrodynamics textbooks can claim to be as complete.
An engineer or computer programmer who needs to solve problems in this field will immediately discover that this title serves to fill a large void in the academic literature on non-relativistic astrodynamics. Those wanting a purer treatise of fundamental theory might find a text on analytical celestial mechanics or dynamical astronomy will help supplement this text for self-study.
Lousy attempt.......2000-03-02
I felt that this book made a very lousy attempt at clearly explaining the subject material. I had previously owned Fundamentals of Astrodynamics and had hoped that this book would provide additional useful information. I have since ended up throwing this book into the pit out back where I accumulate wasteful material for future burning. I would not recommend this book to an engineer or scientist in the field.
Horrible for the beginner.......2000-02-23
I have used this book at a college level and do not recommend it. The book is not clearly written and does not seem to follow a logical order. Unreferenced symbols are used in formulas throughout the book. Often, out of the blue, a statement such as a=xyz is made. In order to find out what a is, the user has to has to turn backward several chapters. All too frequently in derivations, a formula is referenced that is ahead in the text, or in a future chapter. Notation is also confusing in terms of symbol choice. For example, 'r' with a dot on top of it is used to denote the radial component of a position vector change. The reader is admonished to not confuse this with the velocity when a simple subscript could have sufficed.
I think this book is useful as a reference for someone who is already very familiar with the subject and does not need to understand how any of the equations are derived (because he/she already does.) And who perhaps needs algorithms for calculation.
Very good introduction to the topic!.......1999-07-22
For my work I needed to get up to speed on astrodynamics calculations very quickly. This book proved invaluable in that respect. I particularly appreciated the algorithms and examples that the author presented in addition to the usual derivations. The algorithms, in particular, proved very helpful in writing computer programs for my modeling and simulation work. I think that the material is readily understandable by upper level undergraduates in engineering, math, or physics. I also found the author's style enjoyable to read. There are numerous references for further study. I would recommed this book quite highly.

Book Description
These four novels show one of America's greatest writers at the height of his powers. Presented in authoritative new texts, they explore the struggles of characters in a South caught between a romantic and a tragic past and the corrupting enticements of the present. Quentin Compson and his Harvard roomate re-create the story of the insanely ambitious patriarch Thomas Sutpen--and discover that his grief, pride, and doom are the inescapable legacy of a past that is not dead. "The Unvanquished" recounts the ordeals and triumphs of the Sartoris family during and after the Civil War. In "If I Forget Thee, Jerusalem" (first published as "The Wild Palms"), paired stories tell of desperate lovers and a fleeing convict. In "The Hamlet," the outrageous scheming energy of Flem Snopes and his clan is vividly and hilariously juxtaposed with the fragile community and customs of Frenchman's bend, Mississippi.
Customer Reviews:
Great Value on Faulkner.......2005-08-17
I agree with the previous review: Faulkner is an acquired taste. However, if you like his work and want to own some of his greatest novels without breaking the bank, this book fills the bill. It's a high-quality book. It's bound well, the paper stock is not flimsy and it holds up to reading after reading. I received mine as a graduation gift in 1997. Since then it's been read by me, some friends, family members and coworkers and it shows little wear.
These are some of Faulkner's greatest works. To own them under one cover for this price? You won't find a better deal.
great deal.......2003-08-21
You probably either love Faulkner's work or you hate it. If you hate it I won't argue with you. There are good reasons why you might not like his work (talk about acquired tastes). If you love him then you can't really find a much better deal than this book. "Absalom, Absalom," "If I Forget Thee Oh Jerusalem," and "The Hamlet" are some of his best work and you can get this book, which is a nice little volume in about every way, for about 2/3 of what you'd pay to get them seperately as paperbacks. I'm not overly impressed by what I've read of "The Unvanquished," and scholars seem to share my opinion, but with works as good as the other three I think a little filler is okay.
