I found this investment book to be the best I've seen. The author takes a disciplined, systematic approach to investing, guiding you from your personal objectives to suitable investments for your portfolio. It has helped me to sort through the maze of current offerings and develop a well-designed plan for investing. The book shows how to "invest the smart way" and what it takes to be a successful investor. The author explains why its risky to be out of the market. I liked the strategies he offered to become my own investment manager, to plan for a financially secure retirement, to invest online and to protect my capital.

Employee development manager Sophie Oberstein and marketer Jan Alleman show why and how training programmers need to become marketers. To help you meet that demand, their workbook explains to trainers how to create and implement a marketing strategy that proves training programs boost the bottom line. They also spend time on the critical area of motivation. The authors provide a useful tool-kit for designing a marketing plan, including instructions on writing and designing promotional materials. The book serves as a good introduction to marketing for its primary target market, so we can recommend it confidently to professionals involved in training and development. One caution: the workshop format of the book is great if you are learning, and want to stop to answer questions or fill in the blanks, but it doesn't make for smooth reading.

Great Book for the Everyday Trainer.......2003-07-03

In the introduction, the author sets the stage perfectly for this book. She says that this book does not exist to help trainers get more "get butts in seats." No, Oberstein's argues that the optimal situation for a trainer is to have the right people in the right class. The right "butts in seats." Seems like common sense, but organizations don't always behave in this fashion. Even more important, Oberstein argues, by getting the right learner in the right class, Oberstein points out that you will have even an more important outcome - respect from your organization. In today's world, what could be more important to trainers.
The ideas in this book are not meant to be groundbreaking, but should act as a reminder that you have more tools in your training marketing toolbox than you ever realized. Where the book shines is how it carefully explains how to use the tools you have more effectively, including everything from simple e-mail notices or flyers posted on lunch room walls to complete marketing campaigns to roll out major initiatives. You will probably find yourself saying more than one time, "that's a good idea" or "I never thought of that." As for value, four or five important "ah-ha's" in any book makes it a valuable book. Readers should find at least this number of important moments of enlightenment in this book and most likely even more. What more could you ask of any book?

I had high hopes for this book to be helpful, but starting with the title and going through each page I found no new or original information. The authors seem to have read the very same entry level books I have read and decided to write a book. Its not new information and frankly anyone who is doing this type of work should know this material already. I was very, very dissapointed. Amazon has other books on this subject and I suggest you spend your money there.

Essential for planners, leaders, and sponsors of training.......2003-04-05

This book is intelligently written and very useful. I am planning a full day training session for the top leaders in my business unit. Using this book, I've been able to attract the most motivated participants. Also, I'm understanding better how to gain sponsorship for the program from top execs in the company. I've been able to translate what I think will come out of the session into the measures top execs care about - bottom-line impact. It's been an invaluable guide.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in spinor calculus. The authors' primary goal is to investigate the problem of defining Lie and covariant differentiation of spinor fields. This they do, but in addition, they carefully cover a number of standard topics and a number that I'd not seen elsewhere (such as the decomposition of a connection into constituents including the contorsion & metric-incompatibility tensors) in an extremely lucid way.

This book explores the current status of proteomics, an exciting new discipline, which is less than 10 years old. This new field has rapidly grown into a major commercial and research enterprise with great prospects for dramatically advancing our knowledge of basic biological and disease processes. The contributors to this book are an international panel of proteomics experts, who review and discuss the current status of specific technologies and approaches.
Proteomics represents an exciting new way to pursue biological and biomedical science at an unprecedented pace. Proteomics takes a broad, comprehensive, systematic approach to understanding biology that is generally unbiased and not dependent upon existing knowledge. The major components of proteomics from basic discovery using a range of alternative analytical methods to discovery validation and use for clinical applications are discussed. State-of-the-art protein profiling methods include high resolution two-dimensional gels, two-dimensional differential in-gel electrophoresis, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS using accurate mass tags, and protein identifications of proteins from gels using mass spectrometry methods are discussed in depth. Other chapters describe comprehensive characterization of proteomes using electrophoretic prefractionation and analyses of sub-proteomes based on specific posttranslational modifications including the phospho-proteome, the glyco-proteome, and nitrated proteins. These conventional proteome analysis chapters are complemented by discussion of emerging technologies and approaches such as affinity based biosensor proteomics as well as the use of protein microarrays, microfluidics and nanotechnology. Strategies for improving throughput by automation are also discussed. Additional chapters address the application of current proteome techniques to clinical problems and the availability of protein expression library resources for proteome studies.

The essence of Borges.......2007-01-19

These three volumes contain the heart of the work of Borges. They are all attractively designed books, and have about them the look and feel of solidity which suggests the enduring quality of the literary work they contain.
All of Borges' most famous work , 'Ficciones' are contained in the volume dedicated to this form. There are two - hundred poems in the dual- language volume. Though I do not know Spanish I enjoy reading the original and hearing the sound and rhythm of Borges' poetry. As for the third volume it is truly a selection of the vast amount of essay- work and occasional writing which Borges did in the course of a very long life in writing.
Borges is unquestionably one of the great modern masters. And it is a particular pleasure to be able to have available and hold at home this three- volume set which contains the heart of what he has done.
