The Miller Governmental GAAP Guide is organized into four main sections. The first section (Basic Governmental Accounting Concepts and standards) describes the fundamental concepts and principles that provide the foundation for financial reporting by governmental units. Specific accounting and reporting standards are reviewed in the second section of the book (Governmental Accounts and Transactions). The third section (Funds and Account Groups of Governmental Entities) discusses accounting and reporting standards as they apply to the funds and account groups used by governmental entities. In the fourth, and final, section (Special Governmental Units and Agencies), the accounting and reporting standards applicable to special governmental units or agencies are delineated. The purpose of the Miller Governmental GAAP Guide is to provide a single reference that discusses all the promulgated accounting principles applicable to financial reporting by state and local! governments: GASB Statements, GASB Interpretations, GASB Technical Bulletins, NCGA Statements, NCGA Interpretations, and certain AICPA Statements of Position and Audit and Accounting Guides. These original pronouncements have been analyzed and restated in straightforward language to allow preparers and auditors of governmental financial statements to better understand the original promulgations. To facilitate research, major topics in the text are cross-referenced to the pertinent paragraphs of the original pronouncements. Illustrations, figures, and paragraphs called Observations demonstrate and clarify specific accounting principles.

THIS GUIDE IS EXCELLENT FOR THE USE OF THE PRESENTATION OF GENERAL-PURPOSE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. IT GIVES DETAIL EXPLANATIONS OF HOW INFORMATION SHOULD BE PRESENTED. THE EXAMPLES GIVEN ARE WRITTEN IN A WAY THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WITHOUT HAVING TO READ INTO THE EXPLANATION. UNLIKE SOME OF THE AICPA BOOKS THAT ARE OUT THERE, WHERE IT READS LIKE IT IS IN SOME OTHER LANGUAGE BESIDES ACCOUNTING. A Steady Guide & Reality.......2000-06-24

I picked up this book in the college library and I found the cover rather amusing. Within the first pages of the book I was laughing hysterically (especially at the medical school letters). Truth, it is not a guide to get into medical school or to survive completely but it does light a few hidden facts along the way. It will really open one's eyes to the medical field and provide a even further sway toward it if already interested.

A humorous book for anyone interested in doctoring........1999-01-24

This book will make you laugh just looking at its cover (the author, dressed in surgical gear, sits on a clinic bed while toting an assault rifle and pistol - a play on "So You Wanna Be a Gangsta"), and the laughs don't stop there. The author mixes in the hard reality of his profession as an orthopedic surgeon with generous doses of humor. It's a great read for general fun, and a must read if you're thinking about a medical career.

The Perfect Pre-Med Guide .......2006-01-05

Dr. Malladi's guide to getting into medical school is an excellent resource for those who are beginning to think about medical school or those who are currently in the process.

I purchased this book in the midst of completing my secondary applications and wished it had been available when I first started the entire process. The author gives sound advice from the perspective of a recent medical student and the information is full of keys for being a successful candidate.

I found Chapter Six ("Medical School Interviews") the most valuable. The author gave excellent suggestions on how to answer some of the most-asked interview questions. I used many of her suggestions which made my two medical school interviews far less intimidating.

I have been accepted into one school (so far) and I credit this book for giving me the edge and confidence I needed. I recommend purchasing this book during any stage of the premed process.

Although 'So you want to be a Doctor?' was published in 1998, not much has changed in how to become a Doctor. I was in year 10 when i first bought this book. I was, and am still, very keen to become a Doctor. If you want to become a doctor you will realise that there is a passion for wanting to study medicine and if you have that passion you have no choice but to follow it through. This book offers guidence from the GCSE stages right through the completion of the 5yr medicine degree. This book offers guidence for all these years and the author Dr David Hopkins also shares his experiences along this great and intriguing journey. The book offers advice about a career in medicine if you are a lady and also if you have a disability. The book explains, in adequate detail, each department of the hospital and what each specialist subject deals with and how the author himself enjoyed each medical attachment. Dr David Hopkins mentions areas of medicine which include Accident and Emergency, Neurology, Obstetrics and gynaecology, Psychiatry, opthalmology, paediatrics and many more. He also decribes the financial and social implications of becoming a doctor. Well what i am trying to say is that it is a fantastic book and is a must read for anybody wishing to become a Doctor. Remember medicine is a career not just a job. Medicine is living life not just existing in it.
