The 2001 Miller GAAP Financial Statement Disclosures Manual provides a complete, quick, and valuable reference source for financial statement disclosures. The Manual is divided into four major parts. Part I covers major financial accounting and reporting topics. The chapters in Part II, Balance Sheet, are arranged in the order in which the major assets, liabilities, and equity captions ordinarily appear in a balance sheet. For example, assets and liabilities are discussed first in general, then cash and cash equivalents, and so on. Part III covers the specific elements of "results of operations" that are required to be presented separately under GAAP. Part IV discusses the presentation of specific types of transactions in cash flow statements, alternative formats for presenting the statements, and the disclosure of noncash transactions.

A Very good review book for step 2........2006-05-21

I found this to be a very good review book. I used a lot of different books in studying for step 1 and step 2. This book reads quickly. It is well organized and presents information in a different format than in First Aid. If you really know your stuff, you could use this as a sole resource in studying for the test. I used this in conjunction with blueprints, boards and wards, and First Aid for step 2. Scored over 250 on all 3 steps.

I think you could probably study this book + First Aid and work some kaplan q-bank questions and do very very well.

The book has all essential facts that you should know to proceed further. If you did poorly in school, get this book to get back on the track. Easy to read, a starting point.

Skip this, get Crush.......2004-06-26

I bought this book early in the year hoping to use it over the course of several months as a very basic review. With Step 2 only 2 months away I've finally decided to cut my losses and get Crush the Boards. Pharmacology is particularly weak, the text is too basic and too much space and energy is wasted on their little icons for diagnostics, prevention, etc. If you're only going to buy one book, this is not it.

I bought this book at the beginning of my third year, and I have been finding it to be an exceedingly useful and handy resource for quick reviews and getting up to speed for new rotations. It provides a lot of information in a format that is very accessible, easy to read, and easy to remember. I highly recommend this book for people at all levels of their medical training.

The best boards book ever.......2002-06-16

This is by far the most outstanding boards review book I have encountered. It breaks down the subject matter into digestible pieces that are easy to interconnect and remember. It is a great framework by which many of the details from clinical and preclinical years can be review. I used this book for all three steps and scored highly. I cannot recommend this book more stongly. Buy this book! The authors are obviously highly knowledgable in both the basic science and clinical aspects necessary to produce a high quality medical board review.

Our student bookstore had a number of step 2 books to look at, and out of everything I saw I was impressed the most by this one. The information is concise yet comprehensive in regard to the important concepts for each topic. The layout was also very clear and consistant, making cover to cover reading easier. I would highly recommend this over Appleton and Lange's or even First Aid.

The authors of the 8 chapters in this book provide an excellent overview of wavelets, wavelet transforms, and their applications in chemical engineering. The first two chapters deal with wavelets, wavelet transforms, and an easy-to-read tutorial on computing wavelet transforms and constructing wavelets. Chapters 3 and 4 discuss applications in trend analysis and feature extraction. The authors of Chapter 4 present applications of wavelets to the field of process and sensor data fingerprinting. Chapter 5 describes how wavelets can be used along with neural networks to extract information from process data via induction. Chapter 6 presents a wavelet domain formulation and solution of model predictive control. Chapter 7 addresses numerical solution of differential equations, solutions for which exhibit abrupt changes, using orthogonal and semi-orthogonal wavelets. Several numerical examples are given. The last chapters discusses implentation of two-dimensional wavelet packet transform and its application to analyze two-dimensional turbulent flow fields. The book is valuable as a reference source and should prove useful to introduce researchers to the exciting facets of wavelets.

Wavelets seem to be the most efficient tool in signal denoising and compression. They can be used in an unlimited number of applications in all fields of chemistry where the instrumental signals are the source of information about the studied chemical systems or phenomena, and in all cases where these signals have to be archived. The quality of the instrumental signals determines the quality of answer to the basic analytical questions: how many components are in the studied systems, what are these components like and what are their concentrations? Efficient compression of the signal sets can drastically speed up further processing such as data visualization, modelling (calibration and pattern recognition) and library search. Exploration of the possible applications of wavelets in analytical chemistry has just started and this book will significantly speed up the process.

The first part, concentrating on theoretical aspects, is written in a tutorial-like manner, with simple numerical examples. For the reader's convenience, all basic terms are explained in detail and all unique properties of wavelets are pinpointed and compared with the other types of basis function.
