This research effort focuses on developing laser performance data at a higher fidelity engagement model and integrating the performance data into a mission level model. The propagation of the laser from the transmitting aperture to the target is modeled at the engagement level through the employment of the High Energy Laser End-to-End Operational Simulation (HELEEOS), developed by the AFIT Center for Directed Energy (CDE). The output from HELEEOS directly transfers into data lookup tables for the Extended Air Defense Simulation Model (EADSIM). The EADSIM simulations asses the combat performance of a proposed new HEL weapon, the Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL), in a well-defined mission level scenario based on HEL Joint Technology Office (JTO) requirements for future HEL systems. EADSIM is a mission level simulation model included in the Air Force Analytical Tool Kit. Specifically the research explores the development of the necessary information requirements for HELEEOS and EADSIM to accurately model ATL effects and evaluates challenges related to modeling HEL engagements in EADSIM.

The ABFC program is structured to combine trained personnel with the equipment needed to perform a particular logistic mission such as seaport operations and cargo handling, warehousing, or freight terminal operations. If the ABFC must deploy to a theater of operations, individual equipment packages containing material handling equipment and/or civil engineering support equipment (CESE) vehicles tailored to the operational situation are required. This thesis presents an optimization model that determines the minimum number and type of ABFC equipment packages required for the land-based naval logistic requirements of several hypothetical scenarios, some of which illustrate dual major theater war scenarios. A great reference book........2001-06-05

I do research in time-frequency analysis and have been amazed at the wealth of information in this book. This book covers many of the topics of recent and current research in the field of time-frequency analysis.

Although this is volume 10 in the "Wavelet Analysis and its Applications" series by Academic Press, don't be misled into thinking that this a book on wavelets alone. If you want a wavelet book I recommend the "Wavelets and Subband Coding" by Martin Vetterli and Jelena Kovacevic.

(From the cover) "This book offers a discussion of problems that emerge from a mixed description in time and frequency, and it comprises a detailed construction of the principle classes of admissible solutions (short-time Fourier, wavelets, Wigner-Ville, Cohen's class, affine distributions, etc.) It also addresses numerous issues of interpretation related to such representations and shows how to reformulate several important problems in signal theory by utilizing time-frequency distributions."

A bonus for researchers is that although it not mentioned in the book, Flandrin has a public domain set of Matlab routines to compute many of the techniques described in the book.

Finally, an indication of the scope and thoroughness of the book is that it concludes with a 20 page bibliography.

This book makes a nice companion to the book "Time-Frequency Analysis" by Leon Cohen. Although there is a good deal of overlap in the material they are different enough to warrant owning both.

Signal Analysis approach.......2004-08-22

Signal Analysis, by Ronald L. Allen and Duncan W. Mills is an excellent book for students taking a DSP course. The basic concepts are presented using simple and clear language and help the readers gain a strong foundation in Signal Analysis methods. The appropriately chosen illustrations and examples from real world applications are a distinguishing feature of the book. The consistency in the organization of subject matter makes it easy to read. The problems at the end of each chapter are well designed to motivate the students to analyze and apply the concepts. Advanced concepts like Wavelets have been developed quite nicely and in the natural flow of the subject material. This book is also valuable as a resource and reference for practicing engineers as it makes sufficient provision for practice and review. The authors have done a very good job and I highly recommend this book to all Signal processing students and engineers.

Three modes of bubble flow in fluidized beds, identified and explained in a previous work (S. Sasic, F. Johnsson, B. Leckner, Interaction between a fluidized bed and its air-supply system: some observations, Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 43 (2004) 5730-5737), are studied here by linear methods (wavelet analysis) in the time-frequency plane. The modes are: (1) single bubble regime characterized by the presence of one bubble at a time in the bed; (2) a regime where single bubbles still dominate the flow field, but another type of structure (so-called exploding bubbles) becomes significant at a different frequency; (3) a regime in which exploding bubbles, conceived as gaseous structures stretching from the air distributor to the surface of the bed, clearly dominate the flow field, but pressure waves, originating from single bubbles in the bed, are still observed. The signals representing single bubbles, exploding bubbles and pressure waves are extracted from the original pressure signals by discrete wavelet analysis. These phenomena are identified as distinct local maxima in the distribution of energy over wavelet scales in a wavelet energy spectrum (obtained by statistical analysis of wavelet coefficients). Also, a model, treating the data recorded as an organized event (e.g. bubbles) and an accompanying white noise process, is used for calculation of the time scales of phenomena present in the bed in a certain fluidization situation. It is shown how these phenomena are localized in time.
