Perfect for studying.......2005-10-11
This book was a great help in studying for exams. The problems are good (and there are plenty) and the answers are immediately available with detailed explanations. I highly recommend this workbook.
Intermediate Accounting.......2005-08-03
I was struggling (what I call struggling) in the class until I bought this book along with Volume II. I found that it helped me immensely. Though my instructor is good, she goes through things a lot faster than I was able to take notes for. This book was definately beneficial for keeping my GPA!!!
Great Accounting companion.......2003-09-28
This book is a great companion to the Textbook Intermediate Accounting by Donald E. Kieso, and Jerry Weygandt. Helpful to the serious accounting student in identifying their mistakes and correcting them. Aids the student in the correct formatting for this course. This should be used only after the problems have been worked out as a check.

Helpful.......2005-10-11
The study guide is helpful when used along with the textbook. There is a summary of each chapter with plenty of T/F questions to determine if you understand the material from the chapters, and there are detailed explanations for false answers.
Inter. Accounting.......2005-08-03
This book along with the Student Survival Guide was a great help to me. I just walked out of class with a 100 on my last test! Now for the final. Not near as nervous because these books have pushed me to remember the information that I normally wouldn't. Great buy!!
good reference.......2004-12-15
This was a pretty good study guide to go along w/ chapters 1-14 of kieso's intermediate accounting textbook (vol.1, 11th edition). Some of the lecture notes my prof. used were taken directly from the study guide - so there was some reptition. But there are also test questions such as T/F, multiple choice, and examples/self-tests for you to work on as you go through each chapter that helped out.
The text is pretty good and thorough for intermediate accounting - sometimes the study guide was a good help as far as summarizing ideas with key terms/key ideas in bold. The T/F questions and multiple choice helped as far as narrowing down important concepts and trying to gather what was really important - this is beyond the homework/and reading the text.
Overall - a pretty good supplement to the textbook and worth getting if you are serious about accounting/business/finance in the long run.

Wrong title.......2002-01-08
This book is not the text. It is the study guide that accompanies the text. There are 20+ chapters in this paperback study guide which adds to the confusion.

Do not bother........2007-02-26
This is a waste of money. Buy a few accounting columnar pads or use Excel.
Time Saver.......2005-10-11
The working papers saved me time by having the page set up for the answers. No need draw up a ledger or journal with titles on notebook paper.
Not worth getting.......2005-02-01
I ordered this because the professor put it as optional and I usually get those "optional" books to go above and beyond what's required. This time, it was a big mistake and waste of $40.
It's basically the same thickness and size as the study guide that accompanies the book (which i do recommend). But this is pretty useless. It's set up so you can write out answers or do journal entries. But most people today use MS excel.
It's just a blank book with headings pre-typed/labeled to go along w/ problems in the book.
It is helpful in the sense that it shows you how to set up the problems, otherwise, i think it's a waste of $$ esp. for college students.

Great help for college class.......2002-04-22
I am currently taking Intermediate Accounting. This book is a supplement to the text. It has been very helpful working through problem that are similar to homework assignments and problems on the test. It has 15 - 20 multiple choice questions at the back of each chapter that are simmular to what you find on the test. It helps you to understand what the author is trying to teach you in the text. Highly reccommended if you want to do well in the class and understand the concepts taught. I plan on buying the next volume for chapters 15-25.

Book Description
A powerful book that provides protection for business of all types and sizes. Without bogging down the reader in rhetoric, this work tells the truth about how to spot lies on applications, avoid illegal questions, verify credentials, and legally access criminal and credit records. Complete coverage includes how to manage post-hiring problems, conduct corrective interviews, deal with grievances, and administer the exit interview report.
Customer Reviews:
Top rating from an industry professional.......2002-09-03
I've spent the last 15 years building on-line information and background screening services. The knowledge I've accumulated in that time is clearly described in this book. I believe a neophyte could get into the background screening business using nothing else. Editor Mike Sankey is a well known expert in the public record field.
A good tool.......1999-09-22
This is a valuable book. Along with Ford's "How to Spot a Phony Resume" I feel I have complete references for screening out bad applicants.
A serious book for those who want to hire good employees........1999-08-05
Anyone who hires employees and wants to learn about background screening needs this book.
Helped me not to hire a crook and now, WOW!!!!!!!!.......1999-02-19
Great forms, tells you how to you use them!!!! Just Great!!!!!!!!!
One phone call was all it took!.......1999-02-05
My friend knew the pressure I was feeling over hiring new employees and let me borrow her book, so I figured I would try one thing. I dialed the phone even though I was sure I would meet with the obligatory, "Yes, Ms. So-And-So worked here for four months but that is all I care to say." Instead, I learned enough to know that by not contacting the applicant for an interview, I had just saved the company lots of money and a definite future problem. I also learned, through Don't Hire a Crook, what to do if the person called me to inquire about an interview. Reading just one small piece of information in this book saved me all that trouble.
I took my friend out to dinner and a movie and on the way I bought a copy of the book for myself. I could not believe the abundance of information inside the covers! Don't Hire a Crook is loaded with suggestions and solutions to every aspect of hiring an employee and yet it is not overwhelming. Unlike other informational literature, this book is far from boring. I've addressed the president at my job with some of these ideas and he thinks I'm a genius! I also strengthened the company's belief in my ability to hire their employees. Dennis DeMey's Don't Hire a Crook is a must for those serious about doing a thorough and efficient job of dealing with employees.
Book Description
This symposium was dedicated to science opportunities with the VLT. All major areas of astronomical research were discussed in the plenary sessions, ranging from where we stand in cosmology to the new frontiers in the solar system. The workshops published in this volume focussed on different ways of finding clusters of galaxies at high redshift, on gravitational lensing by distant compact clusters, on the use of stellar populations as distance, age or abundance indicators, and on the extraordinary progress made in the discovery of extrasolar planets. This book affords a glimpse of what will be at the center of astrophysical research in the forthcoming decade. It is addressed to researchers and graduate students.

Customer Reviews:
A Very well written text.......2004-08-27
This book is by far one of the best out there in the area of complex analysis. The author combined application with detailed proofs, giving the reader everything that he/she needs. A course with emphasis on applications can be easily planned out using this as the text. Similarly, if an instructor decides to focus more on proofs, the structure of this book allows this too. Simply put, this is the best out there.
You might also be wondering what I think of Churchill's text, as compared to this one. Yes I agree that it is also a good book. However Churchill's proofs are sometimes too hand-waving. Occassionally, I find Churchill using terms like "see exercise for details of this proof". Now, I really dislike this when author does this. This book by Asmar, rarely makes such comment and this therefore is also one of the reasons that I like about this book.
So trust me, if you want to learn about complex analysis, GET THIS BOOK!! Besides, the 2nd half the book talks about pdf, if you are an engineer and needs to deal with partial differential equations at work, this is a 2-IN-ONE text!!!!!
The book is worth every penny that I paid for!! Asmar ROCKS!!

Book Description
Will Barrett is a 25-year-old wanderer from the South living in New York City, detached from his roots and with no plans for the future, until the purchase of a telescope sets off a romance and changes his life forever.
Customer Reviews:
Bored and Confused.......2007-07-17
This is actually my favorite Percy novel. While I believe the Moviegoer uses an excellent device, watching movies, to depict the alienation of the moder/post-modern man I identified much more closely with the engineer in this novel. Percy believed that boredom and a sense of disconnection were the ultimate products of the modernist agenda. I believe Barret perfectly describes the average denizen of modernity who doesn't know who he is, where he is going, or what he is for.
Autobiographically, I grew up as a transplanted midwesterner in the deep south. What I loved so much about this novel is how much I could identify with the main character's sense of rootlessness.
The Last Gentleman.......2007-02-21
The year this book was published, I was a college student taking whatever liberal arts piqued my interest. My Abnormal Psychology course was a favorite. In those times, the classification of people was thought important, and I recall memorizing the various symptoms to be seen in each of the eight types of schizophrenia delineated by my textbook. My instructor knew that each person is crazy in his own way, and encouraged us to focus on the bigger picture. One of his final exam questions was "Why do so many psychological problems have to do with sex or religion?" I don't remember what I responded, but I've always remembered the question for its classic illumination of two areas that will always keep psychiatrists and novelists in business. A classmate had read this book, thought it illustrative of weirdness and I made a mental note to see for myself. Had I not delayed my promise for 40 years, I would probably have held the work in higher esteem.
The novel is in third person and overflows with asides and incidentals. Percy provides a constant flow of tangential remarks that keep the action in flux. There is little excavation to expose the root of things, though one feels a flicker of truthiness in some of the dialog. Billy, the main character, goes careening around in fugue at stressful times and the offhanded, existential immediacy of the style enhances his abnormality. At bottom, the book is about sex and religion, though the absolutes that seem to have inspired Percy make for thin spackle. Had I read this in '66 before Gonzo lit, I would have given it 5 stars.
A final remark as to the talented author. I assume wide ranging life experience and spectacular trauma may result in a deep reservoir from which to draw. Read Walker Percy's bio in Wickipedia. Taking up the pen was a great career move.
Going beyond the personal to the universal.......2006-05-14
Will Barrett is a confused young man. A drop-out, not only of Princeton, but basically of life in general, in this picaresque novel Barrett goes on a "spiritual quest" that takes him from NYC to his ancestral home in the Mississippi Delta to the desert around Santa Fe in search of answers on how to live. He falls in love with Kitty, encounters her family, faces ghosts from his own past, and breaks from his self-imposed stupor and acts. Will spends much of the novel observing: he views life through a telescope and spends a lot of time in front of a TV set. Gradually he learns to free himself from this bondage (he says he wanted to view life as a scientist might) and begins living life as a participant and not just as an observer. Will doesn't forget the value of contemplation and at the end of the novel is still a "watcher and listener," but by this stage has a better idea of who he is. Percy is a comic writer and many of the scenes are funny (and symbolic): the ending with Sutter Vaught and his Edsel is hilarious. Well written and searching, Percy's novel insists that people must reach out beyond themselves to find happiness and sanity.
A Latter day Camus.......2004-07-27
First of all, I do not bother to review a work I do not like. I am a writer myself and no one likes to get a bad review. Why should I upset another writer on Amazon? So, unless I am paid or asked to review a book in my professional capacity, I only comment on really good books. The Last Gentleman is such a book. It reminds me of Camus, Herman Hesse, or Franz Kafka at their best. There are enough previous reviews on Amazon to relate the plot outline; I need not repeat this. Those who only gave this book 2 or 3 stars admitted that they "didn't get it" or could not understand what the book is about. Existentialism is not for everyone. Nor is satire of the Percy genre.
But I loved it. Almost as much as Love in the Ruins
Edward C. Green
Harvard University
Hopefully number 3 will be better.......2004-04-16
I picked up Percy's second work, The Last Gentleman, after reading his initial book, The Movie Go-er a few years ago while in Massachusetts. In the end, I found it hard to get into the story. I could not identify with the characters. They seemed a little unreal. I could not identify with Will Barrett. I could not comprehend his inner dispositions, or how his personal history formed the person he was. The same thing with Sutter, although his ramblings in his notebook were interesting. Val was in another world for me. No doubt this probably says more about me. I don't know if that says something about how I might view southerners. I hope not. Although there were moments I truly enjoyed, I could not get into the plot. It just seemed a tad far-fetched. I didn't mind hearing the names of dated appliances or food stuffs. I derived pleasure from that, the so-called "blast from the past". I like how Percy drops here and there the strange things we humans do. There is too much that is still unresolved. I think it needs a sequel. Maybe it is just me.
I intend to pick up and read Love in the Ruins, as well as all of Walker Percy's works (non-fiction as well). That is definitely me.
