Europeans are living longer, and fewer now remain in the labour force as they grow older. Many European countries have responded to the ensuing financial pressure by reforming their public pension systems and health care programmes. There is considerable uncertainty as to the effects of these reforms - as they typically do not alter the unfunded nature of public welfare arrangements and this uncertainty is itself costly. Not only does it undermine the credibility of public welfare programmes, but it may also distort labour supply behaviour, decisions regarding savings and capital accumulation. More generally there is uncertainty about the overall impact of ageing on welfare and society and the multiple domains in which its effects may develop.
Pensions: More Information, Less Ideology builds on the existing evidence - mostly in the field of public pensions - and highlights the advantages that would be obtained by:

harmonising methodologies used in the various countries to report pension outlays and forecast future pension liabilities or more generally public spending;
defining common standards as to the frequency of expenditure forecasts and the length of the forecast horizons for welfare expenditures;
developing European longitudinal survey of persons pre- and post retirement age, providing timely information on a wide array of decisions by individuals and household related to the ageing process and the ongoing trends.

Maybe it should change "Web Designer" to "Web Developer" then it fits well.
Questions are too fragmented that by being able to answer individual questions does not mean you can design.
I like to use it as a reference on what to consider when looking for web designer/developer.

Nothing I read there has anything to do with what I do as a web designer -- a career I've had for nine years, now.

Here's a quote for you from the excerpt: "A number of Web Designers mistakenly believe that the job of the Web Designer is purely technical.."

Actually, it's not we web designers who believe that, but more like our employers.

"In reality the Web Designer must be creative, efficient and knowledgable with graphic design principles.." Really? A designer should know design principles?

I don't know who Janet Burleson is hiring...or the environment in which she's doing so, but I don't recognize how she's defined my job at all.

Great place to start.......2005-05-15

First off, let me state that I'm sleeping with the author (Married for many years), and I feel obligated to toss-in my opinion of her book!

I don't much at-all about web design or webmaster tasks, but I was able to ask the sample questions to job candidates, and they worked very well.

Janet put a great-deal of effort into this book, and I think that she has done an excellent job in condensing the main qualifications that employer's desire in a web expert.

Impressive collection of algorithms for all types of astronomical calculations. Thorough description of HOW to implement the formulas. Relatively few derivations/explanations of WHY the equations work. Some of the material is a bit disjointed in sequence, but still usable. This appears to be THE reference to buy - save lots of time over trying to find or derive the formulas on your own.

This book is very useful for writing astronomy programs, and it gives an essential foundation for astrology programs. The information is a little dispersed throughout the book. It isn't written as a textbook, but rather as a solid reference, and in this way, it excels. Sometimes, the book gives two or three different ways of arriving at the same result with varying degrees of accuracy. It has something for everyone interested in the movements of the sky, and whether you're casually interested in astronomy or a programmer of ephemerides, you need this book.

Extremely Practical for Designing Astronomical Software.......2005-12-06

I am an amateur astromer and amateur software designer. Meeus' book is absolutely invaluable for producing programs that require knowledge of the locations of the Sun, Moon and planets at any particular time. It's worth the price alone for the algorithms of Jupiter's natural satellites. The simple algorithm for lunar eclipses is amazing. I have written countless sub-routines and functions based on both large and small bits of data in Meeus' book. Thank you, Jean Meeus!

Okay, so you're a programmer and an astronomer? Then this book is for you! No other book has a complete programs and algorithm for computing problems in astronomy. You wan't to convert astronomical coordinate system? Calculate the date of easter? Counting Julian Day Number? Determine the date of perihelion and aphelion of all the nine planets? Computing the positions of the satellite of Jupiter? Everything can be done, and much-much more! What surprises me is that not only that this book covers more advanced topics like calculating eclipses and moon phases, but also a few popular and useful topics like calculating easter, which is usually don't covered by books of similar topic.

Several method and tips for programming are also covered here, along with some method for accuracy. However, that's about all. You don't know how to program? Then learn some Pascal or Fortran from other books. You don't know a bit about astronomy? Well, this book cover some basic theory, but that's just about all. So one of the drawback of this book is that it doesn't cover much ground on the teory. The reader is expected to have some background on it. Reasonable, since this book is meant to become a textbook for astronomical computations.

This monograph concentrates on the roughness penalty method and shows how this technique provides a unifying approach to a wide range of smoothing problems. The method allows parametric assumptions to be realized in regression problems, in those approached by generalized linear modelling, and in many other contexts. The emphasis throughout is methodological rather than theoretical, and it concentrates on statistical and computation issues. I had read few stories by tolstoy as a teenager in school and liked. I decided to buy them again and I just dont think I am impressed anymore. Only very few stories are good to read but other than that this looks like a christian book to me with quotes from the Bible.

I read this book it was 20 years ago, it was a chinese version
and translated by a professor, now I have two children and one
of them is teenage, so I ordered thru amazon with English version,
I am so proud to tell you, I am so sure my dtr will learn something

Moby Dick used to be my favorite book. What more is there to say? Tolstoy is a master storyteller. If you like good writing, this book is for you. If you like Christian writing, this book is even more for you. This one will make a great gift.

Master of short stories.......2003-12-04

This book belonged to my father and he used to tell me stories from it when I was small. All parents should try to read this to their children - I remember being both mesmerised and confused by the stories : mesmerised because of their simplicity and flow, and confused because they led to deeper questions on society,humanity and God. Even if you are agnostic, you can read it for its human and literaray value.
After reading this you will have a hard time deciding whether Tolstoy is better as a novelist or a short story writer.

This book should be read by all........2002-10-03

What is there to say, TOLSTOY was a master of his craft? A read through this book will tell you all you ever need to know about the written word.
