Book Description
This study asks how the cultural perceptions of three trade credit control components (information, risk assessment and regulation of customer relations) differ between the UK and mainland China.
It aims to provide a more informed basis for assessing the extent to which trade credit policies, procedures and systems can be transferred between the UK and mainland China.
* This report arises from a research project funded by the CIMA Research Foundation
* The research is based on a survey of 106 British and mainland-Chinese managers
* Presents a model on how the different approaches to trade credit control can be reconciled

It's about time corporate America and the workplace started taking fathers and fathering seriously. Men's work-family conflict is about far more than paternity leave. James Levine and Todd Pittinsky call it the "Invisible Dilemma" and, without permanently drawing focus from the problems of the working mother, seek to educate us about it. The book includes practical strategies for reducing "DaddyStress," "Creating the Father-Friendly Workplace," "Breaking the Culture Collusion," and "Connecting with Your Family." This book, based on a decade of research, should find a solid readership among managers and mothers, as well as fathers.
Book Description
"Working Fathers" is the first hands-on guide with a proven and effective game plan to help fathers as well as others, employees as well as managers, succeed in managing the competing demands of home and work. Based on extensive research conducted by "The Fatherhood Project" at the "Families and Work Institute" and on James Levine's "DaddyStress/Daddy Success" seminar for corporations, this book shows how work and family are not separate spheres for men, how getting it right at the home actually contributes to productivity on the job, how father friendliness benefits working mothers, and how forward-looking companies are making their workplace father friendly for competitive advantage.
Customer Reviews:
A great book for new or "old" fathers!.......1999-01-19
A wonderful book outlining what is wrong with male-dominated business society today. If you are not a working father, some of the statistics will surprise you, otherwise you'll know exactly what the author is talking about.
Also listed are some simple (almost too simple!) suggestions on how to create a more father-friendly environment, not only for you, but for your employer and fellow employees as well.
Well worth the money!.......1998-04-16
I wasn't quite sure what to expect not having read any "partenting books" but this one was a great, great surpirise. I bought four copies two for a friend and two for my brothers. They too love it!

Book Description
Short-fibre reinforced composites are finding increasing applications in engineering and in consumer goods. They offer a unique combination of properties or may be used simply because they are more economical than competing materials. In the case of thermoplastics methods such as injection moulding are available, allowing mass production of components with quite intricate shapes. Reinforced thermosets suitable for injection moulding have also been developed, whereas thermoforming (using sheet moulding compound) is another alternative. This book presents an up-to-date review of short fibre reinforced composites which covers thermoplastics, thermosets, and rubbers. The emphasis is on the research that has underpinned their development and discussion is centered on understanding the origins of their properties. Short Fibre-Polymer Composites provides an introduction to these "designer materials" that will be helpful to both the designer and the fabricator.
Book Description
C++ is rapidly becoming the programming language of choice for science and engineering applications because of its rich object-oriented features. Intended for beginning and intermediate programmers, this book surveys the application of C++ to technical problems. Modern object-oriented software engineering tools are employed to simplify the presentation and all aspects of modern C++ programming practices of relevance to scientific programming are surveyed.

the best.......2005-07-13
This is a very good book, the codes are clear and
written from a computational point of view. It is easy
to set up the software. I agree with the authors self
remraks except that he should wirte up some harder examples
in the end. But still, the best.
From the Author:.......2005-05-19
This book was developed during many years of teaching scientific programming to engineers and scientists in both electrical engineering and physics courses. About 1/3 of the text is accessible to beginning programmers even at a high-school level, while the last part of the book can serve as a second-term undergraduate scientific programming course or as a reference text. While the title indicates that a major focus of the text is computational physics, the book contains problems and examples from numerous scientific and engineering disciplines and can be employed across a wide variety of course offerings.
Because of the practical difficulties faced by beginning students, a first course in scientific programming generally requires very significant personal intervention by the instructor or laboratory assistant. This book effectively removes this issue by providing a common base of free Windows software on CD-ROM that is meticulously documented in the text (the software is also available for Linux). The reader is introduced to programming through numerous assignments containing real-world technical problems. The assignments at first contain nearly the entire program to be developed; as the book develops, however, fewer code sections are provided. This method allows the user to absorb proper program structure while avoiding frustrating and confusing stylistic traps. A solution manual is made available to instructors through Cambridge University Press (see their website for errata) while the CD-ROM also contains copies of all programs presented in the text.
This book presents a compact but completely unified picture of modern programming practice as it applies to scientific programming. The fundamental, underlying principles of the C++ language and scientific programming are stressed in order to simplify retention of complex C++ syntax and of the mathematical and physical content. More involved topics in numerical analysis, scientific programming methods and C++ are presented in an intuitive and easily-understood manner. Examples of the subjects covered are: software engineering principles (UML), numerical analysis, scientific graphics programming, the Standard Template Library (STL), Monte-Carlo methods including the Metropolis and multicanonical techniques, partial differential equation solvers, calling Fortran from C++, C++ program optimization.
not as abstract as a pure physics text.......2005-04-11
This book can serve several audiences. It teaches both computational physics and the use of C++ in writing object oriented code. Clearly, if you are already know one of these topics, but not the other, then the book is a natural fit. You can concentrate on what is essentially half the book.
The more challenging task is if you are unfamiliar with both. Well, it is reasonable to assume that you know some physics, say at the first year undergraduate level. And perhaps you have done some programming, in a procedural language like Fortran or Basic.
The amount of abstractions, or rather the level of difficulty in this, is less than in a typical physics text that is explaining Maxwell's Equations or Einstein's Special Relativity. The physics in the book revolves around trying to compute certain numbers in an efficient manner.
While from a programming standpoint, computational physics examples are given as an important use case, to help the student grasp the OO concepts.
Book Description
This book presents a rigorous account of the fundamentals of numerical analysis of both ordinary and partial differential equations. The point of departure is mathematical but the exposition strives to maintain a balance among theoretical, algorithmic and applied aspects of the subject. In detail, topics covered include numerical solution of ordinary differential equations by multistep and Runge-Kutta methods; finite difference and finite elements techniques for the Poisson equation; a variety of algorithms to solve large, sparse algebraic systems; and methods for parabolic and hyperbolic differential equations and techniques of their analysis. The book is accompanied by an appendix that presents brief back-up in a number of mathematical topics.

Informal, nice text.......2006-04-13
A very informal style of writing with lots of explanation. He doesn't skip large steps like in the old-fashioned terse style of math texts, which makes it very readable, though some readers may not like it. Not very rigorous, but he's upfront about it.
The original version from 1996 has quite a few errors, and the author maintains information on errata on his website. The most recent reprinting has corrected most of these errors. So, even though there is only a single edition, some versions have errors and some don't. So, BEWARE BUYING USED EDITIONS because they will most likely be from an earlier printing and thus have more errors. I assume the new version on amazon is the corrected version.
Excellent for a graduate course on numerical DE.......2004-03-02
This is an excellent reference and textbook for someone hoping to go beyond the introduction to numerical DE found in any of the standard numerical analysis textbooks. It is not a research monograph, but is also not easy reading. It has already become a fairly standard reference in the literature because of its complete coverage and further references to more specialized sources. I have used it as the textbook for a graduate course on numerical differential equations. I highly recommend it for that purpose and as a reference for someone doing independent reading.
Book Description
Outstanding text treats numerical analysis with mathematical rigor, but relatively few theorems and proofs. Oriented toward computer solutions of problems, it stresses errors in methods and computational efficiency. Problems — some strictly mathematical, others requiring a computer — appear at the end of each chapter.

5 Stars for undergrads .......2005-09-13
If you are looking in to 3d Nurbs buy this book. If you are looking to build a robot from scratch buy this book. It may mean taking calculus and linear algebra but the algorithms are very advanced and quick. This is the math that every corporation would like you to have if you are an engineer. Plus it helps you understand many of the mathematicians. After reading this book you have excellent under pinning for your name.
P.S. This may be good for white hatter as well but I don't know since I am not into cryptography.
P.P.S. Did you always think that Sin() was a magical function? Well you will learn more than you every thought possible with this book. The optimization on you code can go through the roof. Plus this seems to be (but I still have not confirmed) a good way of understanding O notation and not to mention NP complete algorithms (Such what classifies a NP Complete problem).
Archaic First Course in Numerical Analysis.......2005-02-11
A constant in numerical analysis for years the second edition has not kept pace with the way mathematics is contemporarily taught to engineers and scientists. The book appears to assume an older format of learning mathematics was used by the reader. The reader will soon be seeking additional texts to make this one understandable.
A classic and a bargain at that.......2001-07-10
I lost my original copy during my last move. Therefore, I was overjoyed that an inexpensive paperback version had been printed. A must for the numerical analyst's library.
good intermediate text on numerical analysis.......2001-06-07
This is a good intermediate text on numerical analysis. The development of the underlying real variable theory is much more rigorous than the closely related and more recent text "Numerical Recipes in C". Also, there is more attention paid to function theoretic considerations such as notions of continuity and compactness. This is basically an introductory numerical functional analysis textbook. There are numerous good examples sprinkled throughout the text. To get the most out of this book, you need a working knowledge of advanced calculus, real analysis and linear algebra.
Simply the best you can get (at this price).......2001-06-01
This is the republication of the 2nd edition published by McGraw-Hill, 1978, with minor corrections. This Dover edition also includes 50 pages of Hints and Answers to Problems, which is very helpful. It is one of the 14 reference books listed in the Numerical Recipe in C: The Art of Scientific Computing, and the authors of the Recipe book says, of the 14 books, "These are the books that we like to have within easy reach." A. Ralston, of SUNY Buffalo, also co-wrote a book, Discrete Algorithmic Mathematics(DAM), which is easy and fun to read. But I am puzzled by the words - "Well-known and highly regarded even by those who have never used it." - on the back cover of the A K Peters edition of DAM. What do they mean?

Excellent, original, modern, well-written.......2001-10-16
This introduction is very original in the selection and sequence of topics it covers - systems of linear equations, error analysis, least squares, nonlinear systems, symmetric eigenvalue problems, three-term recursions, interpolation and approximation (including Bezier splines and B-splines), large systems and numerical integration. Notably, the second chapter contains an excellent introduction into the topics of conditioning and stability (well illustrated with nice figures), and, just to mention one example, the numerical intergration chapter contains a section on "adaptive multilevel quadrature" that serves as an excellent and very simple introduction into the principles underlying far more complicated subjects such as adaptive finite elements and other multi-level algorithms. This is not a book that strives to be complete in any way, but rather one that presents very well-written and easily understood introductions into the main topics of modern numerical analysis. Many topics that are standard textbook fare are not found here (such as regula falsi, Hermitian polynomials, ordinary differential equations, and so on), but, on the other hands, very interesting non-standard topics such as three-term recursions are included at length, and with good reason. This is a modern and up-to-date book. It is equipped with excellent examples, many figures, nice proofs, and requires little prior knowledge. 100% recommended. Could be used as a textbook for a nunerical analysis class.
Book Description
Ever wonder what it would be like to sneak onto a ski jump when no one was looking? Repair a coffin in the middle of a funeral? Headlighting deer with your girl on the first date? Jerry Harju tells how it happens in "Northern D'Lights," his second book of autobiographical short stories on the trials and mistrials of growing up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the 1940's.
Customer Reviews:
D'Lightful Reading.......2001-03-12
Northern D'lights is a collection of humorous short stories about the rigors of growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the 1940's. Even today the Upper Peninsula is viewed by most as a strange, wonderful, and sparsly populated area. But it was even more so when Jerry was growing up in the pre-WWII era. In Northern D'Lights Jerry Harju has recreated the events that happened to him and characters he met during that time. You will enjoy each character and story! So sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Truth Always Beats Fiction.......2005-10-07
If you're a reader of Grisham or Turow - take some time to read this book. Novels by both give you crime, suspense, mystery and courtroom drama. This book by Robert Surrick gives you the same - but it's not a novel. Unfortunately, it happens to be factual. This is a fast, interesting read - with enough twists and turns to make it impossible to put the book down. Not only is this a must read for lawyers, it's a compelling read for non-lawyers as well.
A Modern David Vs. Goliath.......2003-08-26
This book, for the uninitaitated, is a pointed look at Pennsylvania's corrupt legal and judicial system as seen through the eyes of Robert Surrick, Esq. Surrick gives chase to those in the legal system who don't pass his ethical standards and he is not afraid to name names and point fingers at the accused. This book offers a never before look at the trials and tribulations of a court system gone awry--from political pandering to nepotism, Surrick writes of his steadfast convictions for ridding the legal system of those who've taken their positions of power too far-often times at his own expense, both personal and professional. Surrick is captivating as a story teller and his book should be mandatory reading for all lawyers-present and future. A great read!
