As An Executive Coach, Management Team Builder and Leadership Development Trainer I read 3 or four books a month in related fields. Arnold and Plas have created a program I can only call fantastic. No one since Peter F. Drucker has demonstrated such a thorough understanding of the profit centered organization and the interpersonal relationship skill required to make it effective. I can't believe that there is any organization that will not profit from the study and application of these principles.

An excellent application of desired management principles.......1998-11-21

I have used this book as a second book in teaching an Organizational Behavior Class. It is an excellent case study drawn from the actual experience of Mr Arnold. It is very straightforward and readable. He sets forth management principles that are sound yet difficult to implement as they require creating and maintaining an organizational culture based on strong employee participation and ownership with the buy in and support of management.

The most important book to combat turnover and low morale.......1998-03-07

Bill Arnold's book is, by far, the most on target book dealing with employees and bottom line that I have read. His approach may be a little frightening for the people who must focus strictly on the bottom line, but investing time, trust and power in your employees will make them loyal, happy, more productive than ever and healthier (because they will be less stressed and have a stronger sense of purpose). We wish Mr. Arnold would return to Nashville. His approach is greatly missed and others aren't as centered as he is to open up and listen. Bravo!

Laser-enhanced ionization (LEI) is a type of optical spectrometry that employs photoexcitation to ionize atoms selectively. Over the past two decades, this method—originally known as the optogalvanic effect—has been the object of extensive worldwide research and the subject of numerous papers and published articles. Until now, however, no single volume has presented this wealth of theory and data in a cohesive and accessible form.

Laser-Enhanced Ionization Spectrometry fills this gap in the literature. It synthesizes vast amounts of information previously available only through scattered research papers and covers every aspect of the technology, from underlying principles and theory to methodology and applications. This book examines the state of the art of LEI, compares it with other methods, and demonstrates how laser-enhanced collisional ionization is especially well suited to analytical atomic spectrometry.

The contributors to this collaborative effort—from Russia, Australia, Europe, and the United States—clarify terminology, explain the inner workings of LEI, and offer derivations for both idealized forms and realistic approximations. They also analyze the capabilities and limitations of this technique as an analytical method, including instrumentation, sources of noise, limits of detection, interferences, and applications.

After concentrating largely on flame LEI as the most commonly used method to derive LEI measurements, the discussion moves to the development of nonflame technologies for LEI. There is also extended coverage of the relationship between LEI and laser-induced fluorescence, including an examination of the interplay of laser-induced ionization and fluorescence techniques in different atomic and molecular reservoirs.

A collection of articles regarding yacht design.......2003-07-26

The book is written by multiple authors, one subject each. As a result, the book does not always proceed in a very logical order and the quality of the chapters is varying.
J.A. Keuning (Delft University) gives a very good review of performance prediction of yachts. The structural design part is also quite good, but there are some chapters which are of very little use, for example the mathematical background to fairing of hull surfaces.

At the end of each chapter is a list of references, which is very helpful since the book is too short to go into very detailed explanations.

The book is not a tutorial on the subject of designing yachts. It is more like a set of articles regarding different aspects of yacht design. To get the most out of this book some basic knowledge of basic naval architecture is required.

For Hemingway fans .......2007-02-24

For those of us who are fans of Hemingway, this book is like sipping a rum and coke in a gentle breeze on the veranda at Hemingway's home in the Keys. We get to enjoy our hero's thoughts on writing and fishing and the state of the world and Pound et al. Of course, just about everything Hemingway writes is about himself so we get goodly doses of our main squeeze. Enjoy.

This is a well written hornbook for those law students seeking to get their arms around Chapter 11 reorganizations. The concepts that one needs to master to understand business reorganizations can be especially difficult for law students. If you are taking a class in Chapter 11 reorganizations, this is a hornbook worth having. For a general overview of bankruptcy concepts, including Chapters 7 and 13, I recommend professor Epstein's Nutshell Series book on Bankruptcy.

Good book if you are taking a comprehensive bankruptcy course. Initially seems daunting, but by the time you complete the book you will have an excellent overall understanding of bankruptcy. Possibly overkill for basic bankruptcy course.
