The title and description is deceiving.......2004-07-19

I purchased this book to learn more about the hiring process and how I can apply it to my company. What the description of this book on Amazon failed to detail is that througout the entire book, the author ties Christianity into the hiring process. Citing Biblical principles as they relate to the hiring process is borderline ridiculous.

In an era where most companies respect diversity of their employees and therefore, separate business from religion, most will find this book only suitable for one thing---hiring within a Church. This book was a waste of money for hiring in corporate America.

I have read and reread this book several times and I can not count how many times I have gone to it as a reference source. The writing is easy to understand and so informative, even for the beginning business owner. I especially appreciate the life examples Mr. MacMillan includes in the book.

Good for the Astronmy Library.......2005-03-23

In A to Z encyclopedia format, has a great cross-reference system which highlights a word or term if it is described elsewhere in the book. Most definitions are a little too brief for me, but what I love most about this book is its listing of the brightest stars in a constellation along with their distances which is wonderful for me since my kids are always asking how far away certain stars are and it's good to have one place to go to answer quickly. Has a very small center section with color photos -- somewhat unnecessary and probably raises the price of the book too. A great source for an amateur astronomer like me, but if you are looking for a good "first" astronomy book -- go with Dickenson's "NIGHTWATCH" and buy this one a bit later.

Mesoscale is a term often used to describe structures and behaviors that occur at length scales between nanometers (10-9m) and microns (10-6m). Liquids that contain structures of this size are challenging to study, and yet phenomena that occur at this scale determine the properties of many scientifically and commercially important materials. These include personal care products such as liquid hand soap or shampoo, cosmetics, foods, paints, the microencapsulation or delivery systems for drugs, emulsion polymerization, or the mesoscale structures that form during fiber spinning. This is also a critical length scale for biological materials, and many of the techniques described in this book may be of interest to the biochemistry community.

The book is split into three sections. In the first, and largest, section experimental techniques to characterize mesoscale structure are described by the leading experts from both industry and academia. These include electron, neutron and light spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, rheology and nuclear magnetic resonance. The second section focuses on mesoscale modeling and simulation methods - because of the challenge of experimental characterization these are especially valuable for this class of materials. The final section of the book includes a number of case studies or applications examples showing how an understanding of mesoscale structure, properties and phase behavior can be used in materials design

The integer programming models known as set packing and set covering have a wide range of applications. Sometimes, owing to the special structure of the constraint matrix, the natural linear programming relaxation yields an optimal solution that is integral, thus solving the problem. In either case it is an entertainining and enriching experience.

An active pastor, husband, father, and triathlete, Bob Molsberry was nearly killed in 1997 in a hit and run accident on a rural highway. After a long period of recovery and rehabilitation, he is a paraplegic who has remained active in family, ministry, and athletics. This book reflects on his experience of disability not as a medical condition in serach of a cure, nor as a tragedy to be pitied, but as a cross-cultural adventure similar to learning to live in a foreign country. Molsberry also offers biblical and theological reflection that confronts the Bible's perspectives on disability--that it is a matter of heroic suffering or miraculous cure, and often interpreted as a consequence of sin.

In the preverbal "blink of an eye," our lives can change. What will we do? How will we handle the situation and life itself?

Robert Molsberry is the senior pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell, Iowa. In Blindsided by Grace he tells his story of learning to live with a life altering physical challenge: paraplegia.

In 1997, Molsberry almost died following a hit and run accident where he was permanently left without the use of his legs. Molsberry, a pastor, husband, father and athlete had been bicycling on May 31 when he was hit by a truck from behind. Witnesses described the driver swerving as though hitting Molsberry was intentional.

Molsberry confronts and explores his disability from his perspective as the disabled person and as someone who responds to the people and situations he encounters around him. And he does this with insight and humor.

Blindsided by Grace is one man's thoughtful journey who's determined to live the life God gave him with as much grace as he can muster. His honesty is compelling. I found the poignancy overwhelming of his admission of what he would give up to be able to make love to his wife one more time. I laughed when he described a picture of him in the hospital. He was wearing a Groucho Marx glasses and nose and declared his family must have been bored.

As the mother of a child who has lived with blindness, I greatly appreciated Molsberry's account of his life before and following his accident. I so wish, as someone who has 'old eyes', that the print had been larger. It was difficult to read, even with glasses.
