Roger's Techniques Really Work.......2004-12-30

Roger's techniques helped me get leap ahead of my competition by providing must know tools for a successful career outside the military. I've been out of the USAF for 10 years now. Founded and run a thriving Engineering Company that employs over 15 people and grosses $1.5M per year. You won't go wrong by applying Roger's techniques to your PCS to Corporate America.

Take it with a grain of salt...........2002-09-10

This book really targets those who are actually interested in jumping through the Cameron-Brooks' hoop. The title should actually be "How to Fill Out Your Application Correctly-- And Prepare For the Cameron-Brooks Interview". The author sprinkles bits of wisdom throughout but you'll have to wade through a thick swamp of fluff to find them. He provides numerous examples of how he's had to turn down highly qualified candidates, mainly through semantic and situational trickery. His information comes from only a select few corporate recruiters (which remain nameless), hardly the convincing data needed to make a strong case. Overall, this is a subjective observation through the eyes of ONE person. So, don't fret over his information and definitely go out and research more options.

Ridiculous Information.......2002-06-09

I have to admit that I was initially interested in Roger Cameron's book. As a junior military officer who transitioned to the private sector, I found an initial reading of his book to be interesting (and I thought at the time, beneficial). Having reflected upon my own successful experience, however, this book is full of mis-information and should be approached as such. The way that Roger indicates that candidates should prepare for a job interview is like preparing for an interrogation by an evil warlord. In some cases, his recommendations and examples are rather dysfunctional at best--I personally have never found myself in an interview where an HR rep "turned-up" the fan in the room to create more noise to distract me from the interview at hand. Good companies don't have time for tricks--they want to find good people--people of substance. Good companies conduct themselves professionally and conduct professional interviews--at least my experience has demonstrated this to me. Perhaps Roger is preparing his candidates for "less than good" companies--it's hard to say. At best, he's preparing them for experiences that will likely never occur. There are some good recommendations--wear a nice suit, black socks, shined shoes. Prepare yourself before a job intervew--these are good thoughts, but I'm not sure that I'd pay [money] for this--when I could find this out on the internet for free.

An excellent source of career advice for anyone.......2000-09-22

This is an excellent book loaded with great advice for any Junior Military Officer considering a career change to the business world. Roger Cameron just came out with the 3rd edition of this book which includes great new information to help military officers prepare to be competitive in corporate America. It is a very easy read and the author writes in a direct/ no-nonsense style. A very eye-opening book that will be a super tool.

After a decade of UN/ESA Workshops, this book brings together the historical activities, the plans which have been developed over the past decade in the different nations, and the results which have materialized during this time in different developing nations. It aims to achieve for development agencies to be assisted in ways to find more effective tools for the application of development aid. Everything described in this book is the result of a truly collective effort from all involved in all UN/ESA workshops. The mutual support from the participants has helped significantly to implement some of the accomplishments described in the book. Rather than organizing this book in a subject driven way, it is essentially organized according to the common economic regions of the world, as defined by the United Nations (Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Western Asia). Models for Investors in Real World Markets.......2002-11-27

When I looked at the cover of this book, I knew it was going to be contrarian. It shows volatility moving in the opposite direction to growth. Looking inside the book, I found the cover figure in Chapter 9 where it was described as volatility versus growth for 75 years of the Ibbotson Index starting in 1926. I looked at the Ibbotson table, and, indeed with the authors' eleven outlier years eliminated, the correlation is still negative (-.142). (With all 75 years included, I found the correlation to be (-.317).) At any rate, the Markowitzian notion of finding how large you can stand for volatility to be and then finding the portolio which maximizes growth is stood on its head.

The authors come up with an alternative to the Markowitz approach for portfolio selection based on something they call a simugram, which looks to be computer intensive.

Much of the book is spent on fundamental analysis, and indeed the authors do not seem favorably disposed to technical analysis. They dump on Black-Scholes and blame its use for the collapse of LTCM and Enron.

Some finance professionals will find much of this book annoying, since it attacks many standard concepts, such as the Efficient Market Hypothesis. And it seems to attack some of the basic tools in the finance tool kit, such as "risk neutral" evaluation.

One of the troubling things I found is that though the authors attack the canon of modern finance, they have only limited alternatives to recommend. They seem to recommend either doing deep fundamental analysis, using their complex simugram portfolio analysis, or putting one's money into an index fund. Most of us don't have the time to do the first or the software to do the second. To do the third really gives up on mathematical finance.

I believe that anyone, who is new to Marfan Syndrome will find this directory extremely helpful. It guides you on how to find all kinds of information on Marfan.

Disappointing medical source book.......2003-04-17

Marfan Syndrome is a genetic disease with one fatal complication. Marfan patients can, and often do, die at any age from ruptured aortic aneurysms.

This source book spends far more time instructing the reader on a patient's legal rights with their health insurance company than it does on any discussion of the best methods available to diagnose aortic aneurysms. If a Marfan patient wants to know the differences between the various medical tests used to determine if aortic replacement surgery is necessary, they won't find it here. If they want to know which medical tests allow the doctor to view the entire aorta, not just the aortic root, they will have to find it in another book because it isn't covered here. There is absolutely no explanation of the benefits of an MRI versus a CT Scan or echocardiogram, nor are the actual symptoms experienced by patients when their aorta is about to burst and kill them ever discussed.

The book is written by a Medical Doctor who apparently expects Marfan patients to find a doctor and then place their total trust in that person, unencumbered by any knowledge to allow them to be sure they are receiving appropriate medical care. A patient suffering from any disease is much better equipped to battle it if they have as much knowledge as they can possibly obtain, which is why I purchased this book. I'm afraid I wasted my money, because this book provides very little substantive information about the diagnosis and treatment of aortic aneurysms in patients with Marfan Syndrome.

Coenzyme Q10 (often abbreviated as CoQ10) is essential for human life. It catalyzes the formation and utilization of energy in every human cell, especially the cells of the heart muscles. Fortunately, our bodies manufacture CoQ10. Unfortunately, some people do not manufacture enough CoQ10 to keep them healthy, especially as they grow older. Research has shown that deficiency of CoQ10 is the primary cause of many cases of cardiomyopathy and eventual congestive heart failure. Fortunately, these diseases can often be cured by CoQ10 supplementation. The effect can be quite dramatic, and in some cases heart transplant candidates have no longer needed a heart transplant after supplementation with CoQ10. Dr. Stephen Sinatra -- a board-certified cardiologist -- is a world-renowned expert on CoQ10 and its health benefits, especially for the heart. If you suffer from cardiomyopathy or congestive heart failure, I beg your to buy and read Dr. Sinatra's book The Coenzyme Q10 Phenomenon and take supplemental CoQ10 as he advises.

The passion in his writing kept me reading till my eyes drooped.
How the narrator finds a purpose and pursues it; how he went from a construction worker to a successful lawyer; how he describes the betrayals along the way -- and the romantic jaunts as well -- makes this a two-thumbs-up read.
