Go beyond earnings, and into value-based metrics.......2004-12-05

I took a few courses with Professor Grant at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where this was one of the required texts. I must say his courses and his texts has turned out to be most valuable and useful during my final years as a student of undergraduate finance. All of his texts were reader-friendly and insightful.
Dr. Grant uses active companies in the stock market (GE, Dell, IBM) and their historical data to determine whether they are creating or destroying wealth for their shareholders and bondholders using value-based metrics like eva.
His calculations in this book were especially easy to follow and understand - students of finance can relate with me if you have read some of those cryptic finance texts.
I would highly recommend Dr. Grant's text to all students. And if you are a UMass Boston student, you should take his course.

This book provides readers with an independent view on EVA.......1999-01-30

As a portfolio manager with a major NYC investment firm, it was refreshing to see Professor Grant drill down to the core concepts of EVA and its impact on market pricing. Everyone acknowledges that Stern Stewart has pushed EVA thinking forward in the corporate world but Professor Grant takes it further and shows how EVA gets priced into securities on a day-to-day basis.

A collection of topical papers from various sources, especially the Credit Scoring and Control conferences in Edinburgh. This is the largest dedicated credit scoring conference in the world, held every two years. Although it does not hang together well, it gives a good understanding of what many of the issues are today.

This new management training certification program is based on a set of competencies defined by the restaurant, foodservice and hospitality industry as those needed for success. NRAEF ManageFirst Program leads to a new credential, ManageFirst Professional (MFP), which is part of our industry career ladder. This competency-based program includes 12 topics, each with a competency guide, exam, instructor resources and certificate. Students earn a certificate for each exam passed. The topics and exams are aligned to typical on-campus courses. For example, the Controlling Foodservice Costs Competency Guide is designed to align with a Cost Control or Operations Management course. Competency Guides and Textbooks: Most guides are 150-200 pages in length and are designed to be used with traditional textbooks for each course area. Each guide contains the essential content for that topic, learning activities, assessments, case studies, suggested field trips & research projects, professional profiles and testimonials. Instructor resources are available electronically and include competency guide content, notes indicating points to be emphasized, recommended activities and discussion questions, and answers to all activities and case studies. Exams: Exams accompany each topic covered in the competency guides. Pencil and paper and online exam formats are offered. They typically are proctored on campus at the end of a course by faculty. Certificates: The NRAEF provides a certificate to students upon successfully passing each exam. The certificates are endorsed by the NRAEF and feature the student’s name and the exam passed. The certificates are a lasting recognition of a student’s accomplishment and a signal to the industry that the student has mastered the competencies covered within a particular topic. Credential: Upon successful completion of five NRAEF ManageFirst Program exams (including three predefined core topics, one foundation topic, and ServSafe Food Safety) a student is awarded the NRAEF ManageFirst Professional (MFP) credential. There is no additional charge for the credential. The program is targeted at the academic community. The program is flexible for use at two-year or four-year restaurant, foodservice and hospitality programs, proprietary schools and technical/vocational career education schools.

This book was not written by a Somali. "Goat meats, fish frogs, man-eating alligators" ... "All things not Somali."

Other than that, I guess it's not bad if you are looking to raise up a tasty goat. The way my family eats it- put on a bathtub of hot oil, to about 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then throw the goat in, head first; stomp on it with snowshoes until tender and soupy. Pour over table and serve hot with a side of baby tiger.

Outstanding reference guide.......2007-05-11

Wonderful book with in depth references on all areas of meat goat production. Just starting out, this book is invaluable.

Comprehensive book on raising goats.......2007-01-03

This is an excellent, humorous and very comprehensive book on how to raise goats. It covers everything from shelter to birthing with valuable tips for the person working with a limited budget or general knowledge. This is the only reference book you need.

Lots of good information.......2006-11-17

My husband & I bought this book as a reference a year ago as we were researching on how we could "raise meat goats for profit." The book was very helpful in explaining everything we needed to consider as we began our farm. This book is excellent and I just want to remind folks buying it take Ms. Bowman's advice and do the research into what will work for you in your particular geographical area. Raising meat goats outside of the Southwest seems to be a recent phenomenon and northern regions have different vegetations to consider. If we had not followed that advice, we could have easily over bought hay and supplements if we hadn't had our local extension office come out and analyze our grazing areas and hay fields. This could potentially save you hundreds of dollars. My only criticism of this book is that it does not address miscarriage/aborted pregnancies and how to treat the nanny after.

Raising Meat Goats for Profit.......2006-11-10

Nobel Laureate explains the beginnings of time.......2005-01-15

This short book is very accessible to smart high school level or undergrad level people interested in cosmology. Narry an equation nor 'physics jargon' to be found anywhere. Not even any latent promotion of "big science," experimental rather than theoretical physics. Weinberg was one of the big proponents of the Super Collider.

Given Weinberg's credentials, I am confident that this book is accurate and true to the time it was written. Much work (and observation) has been achieved since then. Check out the magazine "Sky and Telescope" for news, articles, and wonderful images from space telescopes (Hubble, Chandra, others) to get updates on news about the early time of the cosmos.

This book is a clear, led-by-the-hand but not patronizing tour of how the cosmos got started, who the major theorists were if you want to do further reading (such as Alan Guth's Inflation theory, which I will get to someday. It's not as easy to read) and is well written, too.

This is a guide, not an expository report.......2003-03-01

This book is a wonderful guide to pseudo-spectral techniques which begins its discussion as an extension or more precisely as the limit of finite difference techniques. Unfortunately for anyone who would wish to learn these techniques I would have to recomend another book. However, for someone who already knows these techniques then this book is invaluable. It covers in a clear, mathematical way in which certain pitfalls and problems may be overcome. It does not, however, teach more of the advanced methods that must be used in more complex boundary value problems.

I think that a mathematician will find this book easy reading. I also think that an educated engineer will also have little difficulty following along. I do not recomend this book to anyone who has not taken a course in PDE's as background theory is always more important to application than indiscriminately learning a technique.
