Book Description
What is it that makes it possible for some families in business to successfully work together for over 100 years, and for others to end up in litigation in an unsuccessful attempt to pass the business onto the second generation? Getting Along in Family Business is a practical guide for business owning families and their professional advisors. Edwin A. Hoover and Colette Lombard Hoover identify the single most important factor to the success of any business: Relationship Intelligence. With over ten years experience working with family businesses of all sizes and types, the authors provide the practical applications and principles of Relationship Intelligence to help family businesses effectively problem solve, plan for the future, bridge differences, and manage change.
As the first book that fully integrates important elements from family, developmental and group psychology, organizational development, business management, mediation and human motivation, Getting Along in Family Business demonstrates how improved relationships translate into more effective leadership, ownership and ethics in business.

Simplified but not simplistic!.......2007-02-07
This is a great first book on this subject for people of all ages from junior high to retirees (me)! I was looking for a book that would help me understand soil surveys. Thi book was a perfect solution.
If you have ever tried to read a book on geology (the base of soil science) you may have been overwhelmed by the breadth of detail. Young people would be especially prone to this since they probably have not had chemistry or physics. This book will get you through most of this. Can't imagine how it could be improved. Just loaded with interesting material. Highly recommended. If interested in soil and don't know a lot about it already - then get it.
Soil Science Simplified.......2005-08-10
The book was for a soil science class I was taking. The text seems to be translated from another language, as the sentence structure is very difficult in many places. This is a "beginner's" text, and as such was useful.
Read it twice.......2004-02-26
As they say, don't judge a book by its cover. At first glance, this paperback book appears to be a lightweight study guide. Upon reading it, however, you will find it to contain a mountain of technical information. Every page offers so many relevant details that you will need to read it twice, just to absorb them all. Fortunately, it is not written in a dry, jargonistic manner. As the title implies, the scientific principles involved are simplified for easier digestion and application. This makes the information all the more useful. And although it is not a full-fledged textbook, a prospective reader will still benefit from having a basic knowledge of chemistry before opening this book, because it is not a kids' book either. Take some notes as you read, and you will find it be a real learning experience.
This book was very helpful.......2002-12-16
I really liked this book. I could look through it and find exactlly what I was looking for without having to even read what the chapter was. It was very useful because of my science projet. I had to do a research paper and it was very hard to find information that I could understand but this book was very clear.
beginner soil science.......2000-02-24
This book is great for somebody just starting out in soil science. It explains the basics of soil science very well. I would also recommend this book for anybody interested in learning more about the concepts behind agriculture. Although the entire book may not apply to agriculture, it is completely enriching non-the-less!
Customer Reviews:
An excellent guide to the basic principles of soil science.......2001-12-14
Now in a newly updated and expanded fourth edition with additional topical material and the results of current research and trends, Soil Science Simplified is an excellent guide to the basic principles of soil science. From soil physical properties, chemical equations, water, and fertility to soil conservation, surveys, and engineering, Soil Science Simplified is densely packed with so much information that it is eminently suitable as a high school or undergraduate soil science textbook. Black-and-white sketches and diagrams illustrate the scholarly, methodical, highly instructional text. Soil Science Simplified is strongly recommended for students and professionals in seeking to understand soil science principles -- especially engineers, environmentalists, landscape architects, as well as anyone with an interest or career in agriculture.
cool.......1999-11-26
I think it will be good for me. however, there is others which is the best..

Book Description
Unlike earlier books in this series, this review describes the selection of chemical thermodynamic data for species of two elements, neptunium and plutonium. Although this came about more by circumstance than design, it has allowed for a more consistent approach to chemical interpretation than might have occurred in two separate treatments. It has also drawn attention to cases where the available data do not show expected parallels, and where further work may be useful to confirm or refute apparent differences in the behaviour of neptunium and plutonium.

Book Description
This volume is part of the series on "Chemical Thermodynamics", published under the aegis of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, and updates and expands the thermodynamic data on inorganic compounds and complexes of uranium, neptunium, plutonium, americium and technetium contained in the previous volumes of the series. A review team, composed of seven internationally recognized experts, has critically reviewed during five years all the scientific literature containing chemical thermodynamic information for the above mentioned systems that has appeared since the publication of the earlier volumes. The results of this critical review carried out following the Guidelines of the OECD NEA Thermochemical Database Project have been documented in the present volume, which contains new tables of selected values for formation and reaction thermodynamical properties and an extensive bibliography.

Network Flows: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications
ASIN: 0471571385 |
Book Description
Unique in that it focuses on formulation and case studies rather than solutions procedures covering applications for pure, generalized and integer networks, equivalent formulations plus successful techniques of network models. Every chapter contains a simple model which is expanded to handle more complicated developments, a synopsis of existing applications, one or more case studies, at least 20 exercises and invaluable references.
An Instructor's Manual presenting detailed solutions to all the problems in the book is available upon request from the Wiley editorial department.
Customer Reviews:
A practical, how-to tutorial on network flow modeling.......2000-05-18
This is the only book I have encountered that is devoted exclusively to the design of network optimization models. Written in a tutorial style, starting with the fundamentals, and illustrated with an enormous number of examples, it shows in great detail how to build network flow models for real decision problems. Although solution algorithms are not covered, per se, the user learns to build models for optimizing a wide range of decision situations, from production and logistics systems to personnel and portfolio planning. There is plenty of software around to implement the formulations described. I have used this book in conjunction with my network optimization course, and the modeling exercises (at the end of each chapter) are the student's favorite part of this otherwise-algorithm-oriented course. While the general reader is not given the solution to the exercises (a solution manual is available to adopting instructors), this does not take away from the enjoyment and insight gleaned by the reader of this highly accessible guide.
Book Description
Spy tells, for the first time, the full, authoritative story of how FBI agent Robert Hanssen, code name grayday, spied for Russia for twenty-two years in what has been called the “worst intelligence disaster in U.S. history”–and how he was finally caught in an incredible gambit by U.S. intelligence.
David Wise, the nation’s leading espionage writer, has called on his unique knowledge and unrivaled intelligence sources to write the definitive, inside story of how Robert Hanssen betrayed his country, and why.
Spy at last reveals the mind and motives of a man who was a walking paradox: FBI counterspy, KGB mole, devout Catholic, obsessed pornographer who secretly televised himself and his wife having sex so that his best friend could watch, defender of family values, fantasy James Bond who took a stripper to Hong Kong and carried a machine gun in his car trunk.
Brimming with startling new details sure to make headlines,
Spy discloses:
-the previously untold story of how the FBI got the actual file on Robert Hanssen out of KGB headquarters in Moscow for $7 million in an unprecedented operation that ended in Hanssen’s arrest.
-how for three years, the FBI pursued a CIA officer, code name gray deceiver, in the mistaken belief that he was the mole they were seeking inside U.S. intelligence. The innocent officer was accused as a spy and suspended by the CIA for nearly two years.
-why Hanssen spied, based on exclusive interviews with Dr. David L. Charney, the psychiatrist who met with Hanssen in his jail cell more than thirty times. Hanssen, in an extraordinary arrangement, authorized Charney to talk to the author.
-the full story of Robert Hanssen’s bizarre sex life, including the hidden video camera he set up in his bedroom and how he plotted to drug his wife, Bonnie, so that his best friend could father her child.
- how Hanssen and the CIA’s Aldrich Ames betrayed three Russians secretly spying for the FBI–including tophat, a Soviet general–who were then executed by Moscow.
-that after Hanssen was already working for the KGB, he directed a study of moles in the FBI when–as he alone knew–he was the mole.
Robert Hanssen betrayed the FBI. He betrayed his country. He betrayed his wife. He betrayed his children. He betrayed his best friend, offering him up to the KGB. He betrayed his God. Most of all, he betrayed himself. Only David Wise could tell the astonishing, full story, and he does so, in masterly style, in
Spy.
Customer Reviews:
Far and away the best book on the subject.......2007-09-30
Without a doubt, this book is better than any others on the case of Robert Hanssen. Wise has absolutely the best sources (just compare the acknowledgements) and it is very fairly and professionally written along all lines. Far and away better than "The Bureau and the Mole."
Couldn't put it down ..........2007-09-21
Simply put, one of the best books I've read in recent years. After renting the movie "Breach" which is loosly based on Hansen, I wanted to know more about why and how he became a spy. This book answered all that and much more. Very well written ... no loose ends. Just a great book. Such a shame that a man as intelligent as Robert Hansen used his gifts for evil and not for good. There is some evidenct that suggests that the Russians didn't even know his identity! Hard to believe they didn't have someone watching him as he picked up the money at the drop sites but ... that could be one reason he got away with it for solong. But the book also tells of the many times he should have been caught but talked his way out of it. Read this book ... it's excellent.
A companion to Breach.......2007-06-21
After seeing Breach, I wanted to learn more about the Hanssen case, and this is the first book I found in the library. Robert Hanssen is a fascinating subject, and this book provided information that was missing or glossed over in the film. For example, money seems a major factor in his spying. I did not get that impression from the movie. Also, the movie portrays him as combative and confrontational, whereas the book depicts him as socially awkward, aloof, and a nerd.
While I respect the author's research, I am unimpressed by his writing. He does not tell the Hanssen story in an engaging way. Far too much time is spent describing the bit players. Do I really need to know that this FBI agent was "tall and affable" and this woman was "bright and articulate"? In my opinion, the book should have provided more speculation on Hanssen's motives. I also found the author's attempts at creativity and levity to be distracting and cliche. For example, note this sentence: "This time, he decided, he would play in the majors" (46). I also dislike the author's occasional moments of self-applause. For example, in a footnote he mentions that Hanssen thought the author is "the best espionage writer around" (271). Congratulations David, this pervert likes your work.
"Spy" gives a complete overview of the Hanssen case. I recommend it for its insight despite its literary flaws; however I suspect that more compelling books exist.
Oh What Tangled Webs He Weaved.......2007-06-20
Robert Hanssen was in a league of his own. There wasn't another spy to compare him to, and not only for the amount of damage he did to compromise American intelligence to Russia. This was a man of several contradictions. It must have been hard for him to keep his respective roles straight. He was an agent for the FBI, a devoted family man, devout Catholic, obsessed with porn, spying for Russia, and became infatuated with a stripper to the extent that he took her on a trip to Hong Kong and bought her a Mercedes. He was the computer guru who appeared contemptious of other co-workers. It appears to me that he often employed the defense mechanism called reaction formation which means he took an attitude with others the opposite of which produced anxiety in himself. He not only betrayed his country by using his job for personal gain, but horribly betrayed his wife by sharing sexual photos of her to his friend. Hanssen justifies his spying by saying his first job at the FBI was in Scarsdale, New York, and the cost of living there with his minimal salary forced him into needing extra money. Hanssen spent over 20 years compromising America's secrets through approximately 18 drops of documents for the Russians. His Russian contact made sure to massage Hanssen's ego with flattery in communication with him. What the Russians paid for this information was a pittance compared to its value. A tunnel built under the Soviet embassy in Washington that cost hundreds of millions of dollars was for naught as he passed this on to the Russians. Three Soviets working for the FBI were named by Hanssen and were called back to Russia and executed. Apparently it didn't bother his conscience because he would always confess his spying along with his other sins to a Catholic priest. It doesn't appear right to me that he should be able to confess such law infractions and not be reported, but that's another story. This is the third book I've read on Robert Hanssen's life of espionage, and I feel this one is the best.
Slow start, but interesting.......2007-06-11
This book is most appropriate for anyone who believes in US government conspiracies. The inability of the FBI to catch a spy who seemed to put out crazy person vibes for years is a bit scary. Robert Hanssen was one strange cat. Maybe he was smart, but he didn't come across as too smart in this book. It is no shocker that a guy who claimed to take religion and family values seriously ends up as a huge hypocrite. The book gets more interesting towards the end. Sad story.

Great book.......2003-01-22
This book was great. I had a really hard time putting it down. I have three kids so I can relate to some of the things that was said.
Faithful.......2002-10-19
This is the best book that I've read in a long time that expresses faith in an ordinary, loving person such as Bobbi. (I didn't mean that as an offense) She has done the right thing by glorifying God in the press and in the book. I commend her efforts, because our God is an awesome God, and if we believe and have faith, He will supply ALL our needs, and He has kept His promise to her and her husband. I know that being in the public isn't what she dreamed of, but in this way she Glorified God, and that was meant to be. :)
God Bless You and Your Family,
Sandra D.
Those poor kids.......2002-05-23
In the rush to see how many they could breed via one pregnancy, neither of the McCaughneys apparently gave much consideration to the serious long-term health problems of their miracles. This book is a continuation of the same circular logic that they subjected the world to during their odyssey.
As a person with a severe disability myself, I have little sympathy for people who intentionally go out of their way to place a pregnancy in circumstances that can give children a disability. Both Bobbi and Kenny were warned of the risk but apparently placed public relations dreams at a much higher priority than health and well-being.
Certainly, there is a degree of risk with every pregnancy from environmental factors, but to knowingly place children's health in danger because you have to have your own biological kids at all costs--irespective of who suffers---is selfish and emotionally immature.
There is nothing brave or heroic about increasing child suffering when there are numerous risk factors already in this world.
My new favorite.......2001-06-03
I have been a huge fan of them ever since I saw them on a magazine covor. I love this book because it shares feelings and hopes that at first they didn't want 7 babies but after time they couldn't bare to lose one! A must read! This is good for children to!
Very Interesting.......2000-10-27
I thought this book was great! It helped me to realize that they are a real family and although we find them fascinating, they aren't here for us to gawk at. We as the public must learn to respect Kenny and Bobbi and the babies. I never thought about how it must feel to be the center of attention everywhere you go and never be able to have the privacy we all enjoy.
