Customer Reviews:
Call Center Best Practices not so practical.......2005-09-18
Brad Cleveland performed due diligence in putting together this anthology of Call Center Agent Retention best practices. But what's missing is a conclusion and recommended steps to implementing these best practices. A checklist, at the very least, could have saved me countless hours. If I wanted the incidentals, then, I could have turned back to what exemplified his identified best practice companies.
Not a complete waste of time, but just ask yourself or your agents why they are leaving or what you could do better to retain them, and save yourself the $12.

The Kindergarten Pig Book.......2007-02-11
I just wasn't impressed with the detail of this book. Unless you know NOTHING of raising pigs, don't buy this one. The "Storey's Guide to Pigs" by Kelly Klober was much more informative, buy it. Sorry.
Don't like the information!!.......2004-04-09
Raised on a farm, I learned to respect pigs and not use this type of information for the ideas in this book. Please don't buy this useless book. It is not about the ethics we need in this country. Thank you
Great book for getting started.......2004-03-26
I purchased this book and love it. I go back to read it when I have forgot something. I love the story about the boar that ran away from home to come back to Ms. Piggy. I enjoyed every moment of the book. I would love to see more pictures in it of different pig breeds, but other then that, it was very informational.
You won't feel like a HOG on Ice with this one!.......1999-02-10
Kathy and Bob make it easy for anyone to understand the fine art of raising your own pigs for the dining pleasure of your family. An especially good book for those that plan on having a sustainable food source in times of disruption, such as Year 2000 grocery disruptions, an extended illness, layoffs, recession, depression, etc. This book will help you understand that you too can raise your own oinker for hard times. It's a CAN DO kind of book.

Book Description
Partial melting occurs in a variety of geological environments, from granitic partial melts in the continental crust, to basaltic or carbonate partial melts in the upper mantle. Partial melting is the first stage of magmatism and therefore plays a role of primary importance in the chemical differentiation of the Earth and in the transport of heat to the Earth surface.
This special volume contains contributions presented at the symposium `Physics and Chemistry of Partially Molten Systems' of the EUG 9 meeting, held in Strasbourg, France, on March 23-27, 1997. It is intended to provide a current understanding of the physics of partial melting and melt segregation and covers topics such as the rheology of partially molten systems, the topology of partial melts, modelling of partial melting processes, and field observations of partial melts.
Audience: This book is intended for a broad readership, including graduate students, specializing in petrology and geodynamics. The volume may be recommended as a textbook for graduate courses on petrology, geomaterial sciences and geophysics.

Book Description
Maintaining and enhancing its focus on key issues in the development, regulatory approval and use of stereoisomeric compounds, this edition continues to cover in detail all aspects of chiral drugs from the academic, governmental, industrial and clinical points of view.;Completely rewritten and updated throughout, Drug Stereochemistry: illustrates current indirect chromatographic methods for the resolution of drug enantiomers; treats the rapidly growing area of enantioselective gas chromatography; discusses the latest in HPLC resolution of enantiomeric drugs; uses verapamil as a model to show how stereoselective pharmacokinetics affect pharmacodynamics; and supplies an in-depth study on the effect of stereoselective plasma protein binding.;This edition offers entirely new chapters that: discuss the recent decisions and present position of the US Food and Drug Administration on the development of stereoisomeric drugs; explicate enzymatic synthesis of stereochemically pure drugs; review the toxicological, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic differences found among stereoisomers; elucidate the stereoselective transport of drugs across epithelia; and give a physician's perspective on the questions and problems caused by stereoisomeric drugs in practice as well as the pharmaceutical industry's collective viewpoint based on a national survey.
Book Description
The two-volume textbook Comprehensive Mathematics for Computer Scientists, of which this is the first volume, is a self-contained comprehensive presentation of mathematics including sets, numbers, graphs, algebra, logic, grammars, machines, linear geometry, calculus, ODEs, and special themes such as neural networks, Fourier theory, wavelets, numerical issues, statistics, categories, and manifolds. The concept framework is streamlined but defining and proving virtually everything. The style implicitly follows the spirit of recent topos-oriented theoretical computer science. Despite the theoretical soundness, the material stresses a large number of core computer science subjects, such as, for example, a discussion of floating point arithmetic, Backus-Naur normal forms, L-systems, Chomsky hierarchies, algorithms for data encoding, e.g., the Reed-Solomon code. The numerous course examples are motivated by computer science and bear a generic scientific meaning.
For the second edition the entire text has been carefully reread, and many examples have been added, as well as illustrations and explications to statements and proofs which were exposed in a too shorthand style. This makes the book more comfortable to handle for instructors as well as for students.
Customer Reviews:
for computer scientists, not programmers.......2007-01-22
If you are a computer professional and wondering how much maths you need, this book might be a good answer. Much of its content is discrete maths. Like factorising primes. A background in this leads into the theory of public key encryption. Something well worth knowing. Note that the book's discussion of factorising primes is brief. You'd need another text for the public key material.
Also potentially useful is a foray into graph theory. Rings and modules also make their appearance. Predicate logic is another topic explained.
The text also discusses matrices from a viewpoint more formal than that of a typical first course in linear algebra. It generalises to an exposition of vector spaces. This portion of the text is continuum maths.
Do note that the average computer programmer actually uses very little of the material. Emphasis on programmer. But as the title says, the book is directed towards the computer scientist, who needs a more formal grounding.
Set high standards.......2004-08-17
This book is very exciting and motivating, as it sets high standards both with respect to the contents and the style.
It contains the main topics of modern math from the beginning, with applications to Computer Science: Sets, Relations, Logic, Numbers, Groups, Rings, Modules, Linear Algebra, Geometry, Quaternions.
The style is extremely compact, precise and readable, with a professional notation. The book is optimal designed (modularized)
which results in a moderate size (360 p.)
The objective of his approach is to provide a better formal competence for computer scientists by a sound mathematical education:
"Improved formal competence is urged by the object-oriented paradigm which progressively requires a programming style and a design strategy of high abstraction level in conceptual engineering."
The accompanying online course contains illustrations and animations, which at the moment don't go far beyond the book's contents.
Nevertheless, the online part has a great potential for further applications, e.g. programming projects (Moebius-Strip, Raytracing, 3D Stereo, ...)
We hope, this book will establish itself as a standard for ambitious schools and students.
Book Description
When Stella Suberman wrote her first memoir, The Jew Store, at the age of seventy-six, she was widely praised for shedding light on a forgotten piece of American history--Jewish life in the rural South. In her new memoir, Suberman reveals yet another overlooked aspect of America's past--the domestic side of war.
Her story begins in the Miami Beach she grew up in, when hotel signs boasted "Always a View, Never a Jew" and where a passenger ship lingered just off shore carrying hundreds of European Jews hoping for--but never finding--sanctuary. It was a time of innocence, before that war in Europe became our war.
Stella was nineteen when America entered the fighting. By the time she was twenty-three, the war was over. She married Jack Suberman the week he enlisted and set out alone to join him in California. She was kicked off trains to make room for soldiers, her luggage was stolen, she was arrested for soliciting, but she was determined to follow her husband. And she did so for the next four years as he was sent from air base to air base, first training to be a bombardier and then training others. It wasn't until he was sent overseas to fly combat missions that she finally went back home to wait, as did so many other soldier's wives.
This remarkable memoir renders a double understanding of war--of how it matured a young woman and how it matured a country. By personalizing the patriotism of the 1940s, Stella Suberman's story becomes the story of all military wives and serves as a powerful reminder of how differently many Americans feel about war sixty years later.
Customer Reviews:
A young wife learns of the world.......2006-06-01
I read The Jew Store and was actually looking to see if she had written another book. Thankfully, she did! I read this before getting married, which turned out to be an appropriate time. This was a transistory period for the writer becoming of age, married and realizing how different her image of people were in comparison to the likeness all people share. I have used this in my classes with high school age children.
She has a gentle way of making us laugh at her mistakes and cry at her pain and teaching us that it is okay if we have not gotten to perfect at the ripe age of 20-something, as long as we are still trying to attain it.
A Delightful Piece of WWII History.......2005-02-27
When It Was Our War is so informative. It describes many aspects of WWII and the American culture at that time. It is extremely enjoyable because the author adds a humanistic aspect by telling her own story of following her husband around the country as he trains to become a bombardier, and by describing the people she meets along the way.
People come in and out of Stella's life, and some make a great impact on her. Truths are revealed and her eyes are opened. Suberman's whole perception of the world changes.
War has a way of making people come face to face with reality. Suberman's writing is a window into the realities of WWII, and what was happening at the home front. She draws vivid pictures of the time period.
I was captivated by how touchingly personal she got when she described the persevering love her and her husband had for each other. It didn't matter that they were far apart. It didn't matter what was happening in their lives. Their love never faltered.
If you haven't discovered the GEM.......2004-10-20
that is Stella Suberman, you must read her books. Absolutely delightful writer--the kind of person you wish was a personal friend. Flawless, seamless, writing that will wrap you into her narratives. Glorious.
Hubba Hubba!!!.......2004-09-02
Earlier reviews are all excellent! Stella Suberman and her family were prolific letter-writers; their contemporary correspondence obviously provided vivid details linking her journey into marriage and her growing insights into the social patterns existing in our country to her account. Suberman's book provides a vivid historic backdrop of American lives and attitudes during the war. She is unflinching in her honesty! I recommend this book for anyone interested in the home front, women's history, or vivid pictures of how Americans viewed the war, including reactions to the Doolittle raids, the songs sung, the experience of traveling by train and car. It is an incredible social history. And, as the guys said when a pretty girl walked by,''HUBBA HUBBA!"
I entered the world of World War II.......2004-03-25
For all of us who have wondered how Americans dealt with World War II, this is a book that tells all. It is an unusual book in that nothing is sacred. It is not just a feel-good Greatest Generation book (even though it is written by someone from that generation), but one that recounts with penetrating clarity the the good things and the bad. There is a surprising amount of actual war activity information included along with a timeline that is fascinating. There is also much that is light-hearted - the songs, the reunitings, and so forth -that make the book warm and inviting. I highly recommend this book.

Book Description
The product of six years of collaborative research, this fine biography offers new interpretations of a pioneering figure in anesthesiology, epidemiology, medical cartography, and public health. It modifies the conventional rags to riches portrait of John Snow by synthesizing fresh information about his early life from archival research and recent studies. It explores the intellectual roots of his commitments to vegetarianism, temperance, and pure drinking water, first developed when he was a medical apprentice and assistant in the north of England. The authors argue that all of Snow's later contributions are traceable to the medical paradigm he imbibed as a medical student in London and put into practice early in his career as a clinician: that medicine as a science required the incorporation of recent developments in its collateral sciences--chiefly anatomy, chemistry, and physiology--in order to understand the causes of disease. Snow's theoretical breakthroughs in anesthesia were extensions of his experimental research in respiratory physiology and the properties of inhaled gases. Shortly thereafter, his understanding of gas laws led him to reject miasmatic explanations for the spread of cholera, and to develop an alternative theory in consonance with what was then known about chemistry and the physiology of digestion. Using all of Snow's writings, the authors follow him when working in his home laboratory, visiting patients throughout London, attending medical society meetings, and conducting studies during the cholera epidemics of 1849 and 1854. The result is a book that demythologizes some overly heroic views of Snow by providing a fairer measure of his actual contributions. It will have an impact not only on the understanding of the man but also on the history of epidemiology and medical science.
