Using this book along with Volume I of the same series, will greatly improve you scores on the CPA Exam. These were the only tools I used and I passed on my 2nd time. This is a wonderful resource. Good luck to all striving CPA's.

Sadly, composting has a bit of a bad reputation some places. Many people imagine that you have to wear Birkenstocks and take part in anti-globalization marches, grow your facial hair and bathe infrequently to compost. Nothing could be farther from the truth!
According to most gardeing experts, amending one's soil is just about the most important thing one can do to ensure the health and beauty of a garden. Composting can be an inexpensive, quick and simple way to improve the soil, and it cuts down on the waste taken off to garbage dumps.

This book is my first on composting, and while it didn't give me the desire to do it, it certainly gave me a great start in figuring it out. It seems to be well worth the read so far.

This is a great, clear cut, interesting and fun-to-read book! Stu Campbell is able to take what, to newcomers, can be a daunting task and not only present us with the basics to feel comfortable but he also translates some of the scientific "mumbo-jumbo" of how and why compost works into layman's terms. He includes real "recipes" and approaches to try as well as suppling a list (though not nearly complete) of good materials to compost as well as what NOT to use. A short "troubleshooting" chapter called "Things You Might Worry About a Little" is a bit over the top for beginners but is part of what makes this book valuable for the seasoned composter. Let It Rot! is a not-to-technical, well-written, easy-to-read guide that takes the "yuck" out of your composting ideas! Perfect for beginners and a great refresher for near professional composters.

Book Description
This book contains a comprehensive treatment of the Kepler problem, i.e., the two body problem. It is divided into four parts. In the first part the arguments are exposed elementarily, and the properties of the problem are recovered in a purely computational way. This part is written at an undergraduate student level. In the second part a unifying point of view, originally due to the author, is presented which centers the exposition on the intrinsic group-geometrical aspects. This part requires more mathematical background which is presented in the fourth part, in particular, the basic tools of differential geometry and analytical mechanics used in the book. The third part exploits some results of the second part to give a geometrical description of the perturbation theory of the Kepler problem. Each of the four parts, which are to some extent independent, could form the basis for a one-semester course.

This is a book dealing with the subject in an original way, presenting the many aspects of the modern Kepler Problem, and is subdivided in four parts: Elementary Theory, Group-Geometric Theory, Perturbation Theory and Appendices.
The non-specialist should read first the Appendices, which effectively outline topics as Differential Geometry, Lie Groups and Algebras and Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Dynamics, in order to fully understand the more advanced points in the book.
The first part, Elementary Theory, deals with the classic issues relevant to the Kepler Problem: from the basic facts on the conics, the Kepler Equation, to the elements of the orbit for the most interesting case of negative energy. Other modern, and more advanced, related topics are also treated here concerning, e.g., the Dealaunay and the Pauli variables, the Schrödinger Equation for the Kepler Problem and three regularization methods, which help to exhibit the various aspects of the symmetries of this Problem.
The second part, Group-Geometric Theory, is highly technical (and challenging) and is the most important of the book, aiming to provide a deeper understanding of the geometric structure of the Kepler Problem. Here especially the sixth chapter, on conformal regularization, is fundamental for the subsequent development. In the other chapters of this part, topics such as, e.g., spinorial regularization and geometric quantization are clearly developed.
In the third part, the Perturbation Theory of the Kepler Problem is being faced and, firstly, a preliminary, useful presentation of the methods of general perturbation theory is given. Soon after, the specific perturbations of the Kepler Problem are studied and a method is presented which avoids the drawbacks of coordinates which are not global, by the adoption of the Fock parameters. Such parameters are well suited also for the numerical integration, and a method involving them is used and implemented in the nice KEPLER program, which is provided on a CD ROM attached to the book.
Surely this is a challenging book and, maybe, the availability of a number of exercises - presently missing - would contribute to confirm the non-specialist on the correct understanding of the concepts. In any case, the clear expository style, together with the support of the useful Appendices, considerably help the reader, who can appreciate the fascinating character of this matter.
Kepler, what's your problem?.......2003-11-24
The proof given by Newton of the fact that the motion of
planets satisfies the three Kepler's laws is one of the most
impressive and beautiful intellectual conquests of mankind.
(I was little more than a child when one of my teachers told
me about this fact, and, after 30 years, I still remember
that day.) After more than three centuries, the Kepler
problem still plays an important role in mathematics and
physics, having relations with group theory, spinor theory,
separation of variables, perturbation theory, and quantum
mechanics.
This book is pedagogically very effective, since it
gradually leads the reader from the basic definitions of
conics (i.e., ellipse, parabola, and hyperbola) to the
regularization of the Kepler problem, its quantization, and
its perturbation theory. There are a lot of appendices where
the mathematical tools are briefly (but precisely) recalled,
and a huge number of beautiful figures. The author gave
important contributions to understand the mathematical
aspects of the Kepler problem and has a long teaching
experience. I think that this book can be enjoyed by a very
wide range of readers.

Air pollution determination is one of the most important fields of gas chromatography application in practice. This book provides a systematic description of the main stages of air pollution determination, ranging from sampling problems to the quantitative estimation of the acquired data.
Special attention is paid to the problem of gas, vapor, spray and solid particles extraction from air. The main methods of sampling procedure, namely, container utilization, cryogenic concentration, absorption, adsorption, chemisorption and filter usage, and successive impurities extraction are also handled. Sorption theory and the problems of sorption and desorption efficiency for hazardous impurities being extracted from traps with sorbents are discussed in detail. The practical utilization of different sorbents (silica, activated carbon, polymers etc.) to carry out sampling procedures for 200 main pollutants with known TLV (USSR and USA) is also considered.
This highly informative book, reflecting several insufficiently known techniques as well as the experience of both western and Soviet researchers, should be of interest to both beginners and skilled researchers.

The book should have more examples per topic, one example is not enough for a difficult subject like Numerical Analysis. The book does not provide the answers for the exercises and students do not have a way to check if they are doing the exercises correctly.

A very disappointing book - it should be subtitled "a mini biography of Peter H Capstick." Capstick is arrogant enough to think that the reader will be just as interested in him as the they are in Meinertzhagen! It is not well written as Capstick rambles off on tangents (usually about himself) at very regular intervals. He professes to be an expert where he clearly is not eg he disputes the well known fact that anti-malarial drugs can mask the symptoms of the disease.
A great pity that a potentially interesting book has been spoilt by a self interested author!
Good but popular.......2006-12-14
Col. Meinertzhagen was one of the greatest warriors of his day, a Richard Burton, Lord Stanley and Lawrence of Arabia all wrapped into one. He was also a fascinating individual who was a big game hunter and at the same time a man who collected one of the greatest bird collections for museum use at the time. An expert therefore on birds and a jungle fighter against Leetow-Vorbecks Germans in German East Africa(Tanzania). He led Africans in many fights of the First World War and was most well known for leading secret British septerfuge missions against the Turks in Palestine, leading to the capture of Beersheba. In the 1930s he was an admirer of fascism but hated the Nazis for their racist policies. In the 1920s he was also a great admirer of ZIonism and claimed to be an essential element in the founding of Israel, a fact overlooked today. He was a great warrior and this book tells his story full of bravado. The book concentrates also on his big game hunting exploits, but it is afanciful account.

Enjoyable for the Anectdotes.......2006-06-18
This is a very bloody book, but so was Africa in the 1890-1920 timeframe - A Post-Bellum backwater - and one wonders why the British or the Germans were there.
The best passsages cover Meinhertzhagen as a leader of men - his boldness and his careful calculations, as an intelligence operative and officer - his gaining entry to a Russian fort is hilarious, and his observations of Post-Bellum Africa - where the slave trade has collapsed and the Boer War is over with.
In the end, all things written and done by Meinertzhagen must be judged against his role as a British Intelligence Officer - his diary entries, his "ornithology", and his whereabouts and actions. The one true constant is his devotion and loyalty to the Empire and his empathy for the downtrodden and unjustly treated.
The dispatch of men with "amateur" interests is an old, old ruse that reaches as far back as Aristotle's trip to Thessaly if not further.

Not your typical Capstick book, this focuses more on the military wars and campaigns in Africa from a British poit of view.
