Seven Principles of Membership.......2000-05-29

Hence, she defines new workplace as 'the new workplace community'. "Community means connections among groups over time. The term evokes images of belonging and pride, a symbolic home. Transferring those images to a 'workplace community'- a workplace that is moral and respectful, and that treats employees as 'responsible agents' of the organization- is highly desirable." According to Jane Galloway Seiling the New Workplace Community: (a). is inclusive, integrative, and flexible, (b). sets goals that attract the input of organizational members, (c). encourages collaborative partnerships, (d). communicates effectively, (e). instills pride in organizational memberships, (f). is steadfast in difficult situations, (g). understands that the phrase 'we are the organization' is significant to the success of the workplace community.

In this context, throughout this invaluable book, she discusses the seven principles of membership to the workplace community as follows:

1. Contribution: All organizational participants are 'members.' All members, wherever they are in the organizational circle, contribute to the well-being of their co-members and the workplace community. (For detailed discussion see Chapter Two)

She argues that the principles of membership when accepted as the way to work throughout the organization, encourage members to share a common purpose, vision, and goals; stimulate interactive energy; and create the possibility that members can and will accept the urgency of performance as a personal responsibility.

"New" ABC-XYZ REALLY 15 Years Old??.......2005-08-13

Has it REALLY been 15 years since this old and trusted classic "Beekeeper's Bible" has been re-edited and revised??

So much has changed in North American beekeeping since 1990....varroa mites now in all 50 states...tracheal mites, also....coming of African Hybrid Bees into several southern states....fire ants as an issue in many states....hive beetles....explosion of the almond pollination industry and its affect upon the nation-wide beekeeping industry....the incredible changes in the queen-rearing and package bee industry....the multi-million-dollar lawsuits successfully brought by the American Honey Producers' Association against cheap honey imported into our domestic market at prices below the cost of production and now the re-emergence of imports of cheap honey into our domestic market.... numerous changes in uses of manufactured chemicals, herbal essences and other treatments in beehives....small-cell brood foundation use.... too many changes since 1990 to mention them all!! When is an up-dated edition coming??

I have relied on this book and "The Hive and the Honey Bee" for 36 years. Now want to get a new, revised edition of the ABC-XYZ. Can't believe most recent edition is 1990.......

The only book you need.......2005-07-20

This book is filled with more info than you will ever need. Anything you need to know about beekeeping is in there. It's wonderful to have such a detailed guide to keep my bees healthy and happy. Thanks, Gary

Updated by expert Roger Morse, the book contains, in encyclopdia form complete information on the honeybee, including undated information on the "africanized bee" (aka the infamous "killer bees") and the threat they pose to the hobbyist beekeeper. Excellent data is included on the various diseases and parasites which also threaten the beekeeping industry. This book is really easy to understand. Its language is so simple. Anyone can read and understand it so well, even if your first language is not English. The authors of this book seems to be a mathematician if you take a good look at all his other books. Great for intermediate mathematicians!

From 15,000-foot falls with unopened parachutes to forced night landings in unlit fields and bail-outs from burning planes, the lives of pilots are often exciting and occasionally harrowing, as this collection of stories dramatically illustrates. The book's theme is survival in the skies, and the key to that survival is "Lady Luck," according to the author. Admittedly a dangerous profession, flying is filled with unpredictable factors that affect the best and worst pilots with terrible impartiality. Don Tooker should know, he earned his navy wings in 1947 and has been flying ever since, surviving 133 combat missions over Korea and countless other adventures.

Several of the author's own experiences are included in the book, but many deal with pilots he has come to know during his long flying career. For example, there is the entertaining tale of two young Marine pilots, trained in the hottest fighter of the day, who attempt a cross-country jaunt in a dilapidated 1937 Piper Cub and barely escape with their lives. All the stories are true. Some are funny, others sad. The time covered is expansive, from combat in World War II and Korea up through the 1990s. The book will attract a broad audience of readers, especially those who love flying and good action stories.

The Second Luckiest Pilot.......2003-05-02

If you enjoy adventure and appreciate those early pilots who made a huge sacrifice for aviation and our country, you will love this book. Each short story is full of adventure and is told in a way that you can re-live what these pilots endured and their love of flying as aviation pioneers. The author and his buddies were truly lucky to survive (though not all did). This book is appropriate for all ages, especially teens & up. Look for the author's second book, Stand Clear - I am anxiously awaiting its release.

TOP GUN QUALITY BOOK.......2002-03-14

This is a book that you won't be able to put down & will want to share it with others. The author's first hand experience as a Naval Aviator is portrayed at the top gun level!

EYE'S RIGHT!.......2002-02-05

Since this book includes the experience of the author and two other F8 pilots that I knew personally when I worked with them, while I was still on active duty in the Marine Corps, I just couldn't put it down. As a GCI controller I have always been fascinated, through my assocation with aviation so I have a genuine respect for their training, dedication,love,passion for flying along with their willingness to do a demanding job and of course that definitely includes the author as The author did a top notch, top gun job.

I had the pleasure of meeting Don Tooker at a recent Silver Wings luncheon in San Diego, where he was the guest speaker. After hearing some of his incredible stories I had to buy the book. It's a great read and you'll be near tears in one chapter and laughing out loud the next. If you like aviation thrillers you won't be able to put it down.

Window into the past of aviation history.......2000-11-09

Frenchman's Discovery of America.......2000-06-18

Etudiant Etranger is a must-read for those studying French who can read at an advanced or high intermediate level. It tells about Philippe Labro's exchange experience when he leaves France to study abroad in the US (in Virginia). View the US from the eyes of a Frenchman.
