Great source for reprints of old tax forms.......1999-03-04

If your looking for an extensive reprinting of 1995 tax forms and instructions, or a handy glossary of definitions such as "Internal Revenue Service", "Deed", "Will" and even the always confusing multi-syllabic "Representative", you'll find it here in spades. Of the 284 pages in the book, the first 111 is full of boilerplate advice that you might get free from the IRS, the remaining 173 pages is reprints of IRS forms, their instructions, and the glossary.

Following the Bloom by Douglas Whynott, is a collection of amusing anecdotes of colorful migratory beekeepers and their truck-transported bee-cargo. Doug Whynott hitches a ride and applies his professor quality bee knowledge to the open road. Funny stories, told in a lyrical prose, plus expert information--a book to read and reread and treasure! New England readers may even envision on off-beat winter vacation in the South Carolina sun--as part of the crew.

Classic Book About Beekeepers and Bees.......2001-01-04

I'm sorry to learn that this book is not available anymore. I learned about Following the Bloom when I read an article about beekeeping in southern California written by Whynott for a San Diego weekly. I read it, loved it, and then ordered several more copies and took them to beekeepers meetings. This book covers an important time in beekeeping, when tracheal mites arrived in this country and when the Africanized bees crossed from Mexico into Texas. It was a difficult time in commercial beekeeping. The author also covered some of the greats in the industry, people such as Horace Bell. But Whynott goes beyond reporting too, and gets into the mystery of the bees, nature's most interesting creature. The review on the back cover of this book has it right, that the author excites our wonder. Anyone interested in bees or the people who keep them for a living should read this fine book. If you can find it. I'm still looking for copies.

A must for anyone interested in bees and beekeeping........1998-07-22

As a new beekeeper - or rather, as someone who has a beehive on her property - I have tried this spring and summer to read everything I can about bees and beekeeping. Whynott's stories are fascinating, and the background information provided is helpful even to a hobbyist. High School biology teachers should put this on their students' summer reading list; I know the school I teach at will!

Fascinating look at migratory beekeepers, cowboys of bees........1998-07-13

This book is fascinating, suffering only from being out of date in terms of the new crises in beekeeping. I wish Whynott or someone would revisit the subject of migratory beekeeping. These people drive semis loaded with beehives around the country! It is an adventurous life, to say the least. Whynott tells some wild stories. We owe the migratory beekeepers a lot. This is a quick read, but worth a try if you are at all interested in beekeeping.

This presents a problem in determining the physical properties of polymers and thus makes it difficult to tackle the question of the synthesis of polymers with desired properties. The author has approached this problem in a semi-empirical manner, which like van Krevelen's empirical method is based on the principle of increment and deriving calculations from it, but in Askadskii's approach each equation for the calculation of properties is physically based, and its parameters are connected with characteristics of atoms (Van-der-Waals volume, dispersionic interaction) which compose the reoccurring unit of polymer, as well as with characteristics of energy of intermolecular interaction. Particular attention is paid to the relaxation properties of polymers, which determine the mechanical serviceability of materials.

This book is in fact an extensive collection of results and definitions on matrices. If you want a book that develops the theory of matrices, this is not what you are looking for. But, if you work with matrices and you need a quick reference to help your research for example, this is the book for you. It is well organised and contains quite a number of results on matrices. At the same time it provides a number of references for additional information on a particular subject.

Hard to put down.......2006-12-14

The book is well written and was hard to put down. It tells Gen. Donald V. Bennett's story of the struggle to get in and through West Point. It next moves to initial artillery training. Here he learns how to ride a horse while pulling his artillery piece. In addition, he learned how to place his foot where it would not be crushed while riding the horse. His stories of North Africa included the sights, smells, running a bordello (to get the disease rate down), and fighting Rommell. His insights and experiences in Sicily were preparations for his Normandy experience. His spell binding account of Normandy is the best chapter in the book and as good as any ever written. He gives a fresh point of view on the Battle of the Bulge pointing out the signs and intelligence higher up overlooked. His conclusion with experiences and insights about the Russians are eye opening.

An Awesome History Lesson.......2006-07-04

An awesome history lesson, especially for those who have forgotten what it takes to defeat evil in the world. I hesitantly started reading this book expecting some blowhard general to gloat about his limited accomplishments in the big war. I had a very pleasant surprise and was drawn into another perspective of what we did as a nation to defeat Hitler and his cronies. The title is taken from a line in the Cadet's Prayer from West Point. It is a prayer we all could use to recite occasionally. I very highly recommend this book.

Excellent Account.......2005-03-02

I really enjoyed this first hand account of General Bennett's experiences. I have read this type of book extensively, and I put this very close to the top of my list.

I especially enjoyed his comments about how people behaved and thought during this climatic time in our history. His feelings about missing his wife, and how he felt when his first troopers died, and what that must have meant to the families added a real human touch. I enjoyed his description of train rides, gas rationing, and many other small points that really gave me a feel for what it was like for not just soldiers, but also civilians, both American and Foreign.

I agree, it would have been really nice to have some pictures of what his vehicles looked like and some maps. But, I would also have enjoyed a picture of his wife whom he obviously loved deeply. A picture of Fort Knox, or Fort Sill during training.

Those would really have added value to this book, but it certainly stands out without them too. My thanks to General Bennett for sharing his story, and not just the combat.

The first hand telling of WWII by a retired 4 star general. Detailed battle discriptions and analysis, and amazing individual encounters. Possibly THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!!!!!

Another side to World War Two.......2004-04-19

This is one of the best books I have read on World War Two, and I have read many. Bennett takes us back in time, as if we are sitting in his living room listening to him over coffee. He tells us what it was like to be an American officer during World War Two. He reveals the worry of 1942 - 1943 that we could lose the war. At that point, we were military amateurs compared to the Germans and Japanese. Our military had been dismantled after World War One.

Bennett shows an interesting side to Patton. Bennett had malaria and was in the hospital where Patton slapped a soldier for cowardice. Bennett, who was in the next tent over, cheered Patton on, as did the other patients. Patton was confronting the growing problem of desertion among American soldiers in Sicily, which was another worry we don't often hear about.

Bennett comments on the realism of the first 20 minutes of "Saving Private Ryan," which is the D Day landing at Omaha Beach. Then he adds that the real thing was four terrifying hours of that 20 minute sequence.

He sprinkles leadership advice throughout his narrative: Remain humble as an officer. Eat the same food the men eat; live in the same conditions. The worst officers, in Bennett's view, were the ones who considered soldiers their personal servants.

The book is written as a living room chat. It is not written with the polish of a John Toland or Cornelius Ryan or Stephen Ambrose. But it is movingly written.

I silently absorbed all of this work and just came away with such empathy it's very difficult to express it. It is a good manual to prepare you for such procedures. Too much to say about it, my words fail.
