1 out of 5 stars WORST book to use for CPA Review.......2002-05-30

This book is too detailed and go off on stuff that's not relevant on passing the cpa exam. This book is for people who want to know all of accounting and not just focusing on passing the exam. It has all these unnecessary stuff that are you don't need to know for the exam. Unlike other review materials that has about 9 chapters, this book has 20 chapters. If other materials can help you pass on just 9 chapters, why does this book has 20? Who has time to remember 20 chapters on each section. In addition the book is poorly written, the materials are hard to understand and topics are all over the place. I also regret getting the audio tutor tapes, they are a bore and useless. This whole package is a total waste of money, you're better off saving some money and getting the wiley book and studying on your own or pay some money and get a real review course like becker. Like they say, you get what you pay for. Stay away from Bisk.

5 out of 5 stars Helped me pass.......2001-08-07

This is a well written book with concrete examples and real, accurate questions. It helped me to pass the exam the first time I took it.

5 out of 5 stars Wow I passed on my First Test.......2001-01-31

What a fantastic way to get ready for the CPA Exam. I was so overwhelmed but if you study this book it will get you ready. I passed my first time....just like they said I would!

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!.......1998-06-01

Studying for the CPA exam can seem like an overwhelming, uphill battle. It is an undoubtedly challenging undertaking. However, this review book is excellent and will definately prepare you for the exam. The thorough chapters are well written and contain helpful exhibits and mnemonic devices. Of course, about 1,000 questions are included for practice. If you're taking all four sections of the exam keep in mind that Bisk recommends 20 weeks of study, so plan accordingly. Nathan Bisk's books are the best CPA review books I've seen.

      Book Description

Most of the earth's terrestrial species live in the soil. These organisms, which include many thousands of species of fungi and nematodes, shape aboveground plant and animal life as well as our climate and atmosphere. Indeed, all terrestrial ecosystems consist of interdependent aboveground and belowground compartments. Despite this, aboveground and belowground ecology have been conducted largely in isolation. This book represents the first major synthesis to focus explicitly on the connections between aboveground and belowground subsystems--and their importance for community structure and ecosystem functioning.

David Wardle integrates a vast body of literature from numerous fields--including population ecology, ecosystem ecology, ecophysiology, ecological theory, soil science, and global-change biology--to explain the key conceptual issues relating to how aboveground and belowground communities affect one another and the processes that each component carries out. He then applies these concepts to a host of critical questions, including the regulation and function of biodiversity as well as the consequences of human-induced global change in the form of biological invasions, extinctions, atmospheric carbon-dioxide enrichment, nitrogen deposition, land-use change, and global warming.

Through ambitious theoretical synthesis and a tremendous range of examples, Wardle shows that the key biotic drivers of community and ecosystem properties involve linkages between aboveground and belowground food webs, biotic interaction, the spatial and temporal dynamics of component organisms, and, ultimately, the ecophysiological traits of those organisms that emerge as ecological drivers. His conclusions will propel theoretical and empirical work throughout ecology.

          Book Description

Relativistic Astrophysics and Cosmology offers a succinct and self-contained treatment of general relativity and its application to compact objects, gravitational waves and cosmology. The required mathematical concepts are introduced informally, following geometrical intuition as much as possible. The approach is theoretical, but there is ample discussion of observational aspects and of instrumental issues where appropriate.

The book includes such topical issues as the Gravity Probe B mission, interferometer detectors of gravitational waves, and the physics behind the angular power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Written for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students in (astro)physics, it is ideally suited for a lecture course and contains 140 exercises with extensive hints. The reader is assumed to be familiar with linear algebra and analysis, ordinary differential equations, special relativity, and basic thermal physics.

                Book Description

Axions are peculiar hypothetical particles that could both solve the CP problem of quantum chromodynamics and at the same time account for the dark matter of the universe. Based on a series of lectures by world experts in this field held at CERN (Geneva), this volume provides a pedagogical introduction to the theory, cosmology and astrophysics of these fascinating particles and gives an up-to-date account of the status and prospect of ongoing and planned experimental searches. Learners and practitioners of astroparticle physics will find in this book both a concise introduction and a current reference work to a showcase topic that connects the "inner space" of the elementary particle world with the "outer space" of the universe at large.

                      Book Description

The 2K1BC Workshop was a meeting of scientists from all over the world involved in cosmological observations in the millimetre wavelength range. Current and upcoming experiments were reported with present results and future forecasts: balloon borne projects which have detected the tiny temperature fluctuations in cosmic microwave background radiation (CMBR), satellite programs that promise to give a clearer picture of observational cosmology, and ground-based observations which are the necessary complement to these projects. A separate section is devoted to the CMBR polarization that seems to be the main challenge in the near future. Particular attention was devoted to specific instrumental topics (optics, cryogenics, and detectors) and observational techniques.

                            Book Description

When Wittig first developed and described phosphorus ylides, nobody could have imagined how useful and versatile this class of compounds could be. This book provides a comprehensive and up-to-date compilation of the chemistry and applications of phosphorus ylides in organic synthesis. The ylides are discussed as reagents in the synthesis of a broad range of substances, amongst them olefins, acetylenes, cyclic and heterocyclic compounds, in such naturally occurring compounds as pheromones, steroids and carotenoids, and pharmaceutically and biologically active compounds such as antibiotics and prostaglandins.

A particularly beneficial feature of this book is the 150 key experimental procedures with all the necessary data, allowing the preparation to start immediately without the need for an extremely time-consuming literature search. But should a search prove inevitable, around 2,500 references provide easy access to the primary literature.

Every chemist in academia and industry working in organic, bioorganic, inorganic, and medicinal chemistry will welcome this book as an inspiration of concepts, ideas and practical syntheses.

                                Book Description

In this volume, designed for engineers and scientists working in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), experts offer assessments of the capabilities of CFD, highlight some fundamental issues and barriers, and propose novel approaches to overcome these problems. They also offer new avenues for research in traditional and non-traditional disciplines. The scope of the papers ranges from the scholarly to the practical.
This book is distinguished from earlier surveys by its emphasis on the problems facing CFD and by its focus on non-traditional applications of CFD techniques. There have been several significant developments in CFD since the last workshop held in 1990 and this book brings together the key developments in a single unified volume.

                                  Book Description

This textbook is written for senior undergraduate and graduate students as well as engineers who will develop or use code in the simulation of fluid flows or other physical phenomena. The objective of the book is to give the reader the basis for understanding the way numerical schemes achieve accurate and stable simulations of physical phenomena. It is based on the finite-difference method and simple enough problems that allow also the analytic solutions to be worked out. ODEs as well as hyperbolic, parabolic and elliptic types are treated. The reader also will find a chapter on the techniques of linearization of nonlinear problems. The final chapter applies the material to the equations of gas dynamics. The book builds on simple model equations and, pedagogically, on a host of problems given together with their solutions.

This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A943024. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The ability to enhance detonation wave transmission at a diffraction plane through various shock reflection/focusing conditions was evaluated numerically. The geometry dimensions were generally representative of the condition existing in a valve-less pulse detonation engine developed by the Naval Postgraduate School and consisted of a small cylindrical "initiator" combustor which transmitted a shock wave to a larger diameter combustor. The wall cross section of the larger combustor was varied to evaluate the increase in reflected shock temperature and pressure conditions ultimately revealing the dramatic increase in local temperature for a "scalloped" outer wall condition over the cylindrical cross section cases. The initiator diameter was held constant and the larger combustor diameters varied in order to evaluate the effects of diameter ratio on the shock reflection conditions for both cylindrical and scalloped geometries. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver known as OVERFLOW was used to model the fluid dynamic processes but was limited in capability to shock wave Mach numbers less than about 4.2.

                                              Book Description

The Second International Computational Wind Engineering Symposium was held in Colorado, USA during August 1996 and presented papers on the popular application of CFD concepts. These proceedings contain a set of invited papers providing state-of-the-art reviews on subjects such as CFD turbulence models, bluff body aerodynamics, terrain aerodynamics and building aerodynamics. Individual session papers reflect on recent methodologies and innovations on CFD techniques applied to flow about bluff bodies immersed in shear layers, bridge aerodynamics, air pollution aerodynamics, mesoscale predictions of flow over complex terrain and the application of advanced numerical method strategies to these topics.

                                                Book Description

This volume contains results gained from the EU-funded 5 th Framework project, FLOMANIA (Flow Physics Modelling – An Integrated Approach). 17 European organisations, industry, research, and universities, have collaborated on topics of improvement of existing methods, investigation and integration of differential Reynolds Stress models for aeronautical applications and modelling of detached-eddy simulations (DES). The book presents an introduction to the project, exhibits partners’ methods and approaches, and provides comprehensive reports (i.e. definition as well as results) of all applications treated in the project. Moreover, a complete chapter is devoted to a description of turbulence models used by the partners together with a section on lessons learnt - accompanied by a comprehensive list of references.

                                                    Book Description

This book presents several new ideas in the history and philosophy of science. Against the backdrop of the major events of William Harvey's times, the author provides new insights into Harvey's discovery of the blood's circulation. A major theme is how Harvey and other scientists based their work on the concept that God created the universe purposefully. The author also develops a new, historically-based pattern of scientific discovery and advance.
