            Book Description

Following up on the stunning success of her previous bestseller, NLP at Work , internationally acclaimed trainer, speaker, and consultant Sue Knight fills a major gap for a practical, real-world guide to making NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) work in business today. In her characteristically clear, jargon-free, and reader-friendly style, Knight has written the most comprehensive fieldbook to what is truly the heart of NLP: how any organization can achieve excellence by modeling companies and individuals who have achieved success by being true to who they are.

            3 out of 5 stars Lacking Direction.......2002-04-29

It is not that I didn't like this book, as I always find tidbits of information in most books I read. As far as NLP books go, this one swims through some fresh ideas though never reaching shore. It is suppose to cover how to model what works in business, though I doubt I could model one after reading this book with out getting lots of additional information elsewhere

5 out of 5 stars Are you ready to go to the heart of NLP....?.......2001-04-10

1 out of 5 stars Intellectually sloppy, lacking in substance.......2001-03-14

No citations, no references, few concrete recommendations or techniques...just one big warm and fuzzy "sell job" on NLP. A weak, weak book.

5 out of 5 stars A marvellous book for business leaders........2000-07-10

Most business leaders are acutely aware that the quality of their leadership is increasingly crucial, not just in strategic terms but as role models of excellence for every member of their team. Leading edge organisations of the future will be those so called 'Learning Organisations' where every member is organically adding increasing value to the business daily. And if you really want to know how to get there, this book captures it beautifully. Sue explains how NLP is currently being applied in organisations in many different ways and contexts and with exceptional results. She does this with amazing ease and pragmatism despite the fact that she is describing a revolution in the development of our organisations. If you want to know how to make giant leaps in the development of your leadership, your people and your business, this is a must.

2 out of 5 stars Neither fish nor flesh ..........2000-06-14

Ought to make it clear that I bought this book in order to help me advance my business career, and I have a technical background. People with different backgrounds will probably form different impressions...

There are a lot of good ideas held in this book, and modelling can certainly help you be successful in a lot of areas but...if you are looking for an outsiders or layperson's guide to the subject, this ain't it. On the one hand, it didn't have the level of intellectual rigour to make you sit back and think "ah - what a good idea, I can see that" - on the other hand it didn't seem to give you practical tips of the kind that make you more effective at work straight-away. For the tecnically minded trying to make it in business - try "How to Win friends and Influence People" and "Influence - the Psychology of Persuasion" and leave this on the shelf. If it's NLP that interests you, there are a lot of better books than this.

4 out of 5 stars Raising Ducks and Geese.......2007-08-24

I purchased this book for my 10 year old granddauchter, she was very interested in rasing Ducks and Geese, I had also purchased from the same author his book on Raising Chickens. We found both of the books very interesting and with a lot of information. Now that she has read how much work is involved in raising Ducks, Geese and Chickens she has moved on to a different interest.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book for the Beginner.......2001-08-26

First, this is not a book, it is a Bulletin published by the Storey Company. The same company that publishes the "Storey's Guide to Raising ..." If you want an indepth book on Raising Ducks and Geese, don't buy this book. However, if you need a bulletin covering the basic aspects of raising ducks and geese, then here it is. Great for beginners and young one people interested in the duck fancy.

1 out of 5 stars Raising Ducks and Geese.......2000-11-08

I agree with Larry. This book was useless. Can't believe it was even published. Thank God I got it for Free.

1 out of 5 stars Appalling in its lack of information.......1999-11-21

I was very disappointed to find that this book was far less useful than talking over the neighbours fence about poultry. Besides a lack of information of value, I found the level of the book's wording and presentation style to be so far short of inadequate as to be unpleasant to read in its conversational tone and "country hick" manner. I would highly recommend that this book be avoided by anyone with more than a vague passing interest in what ducks and geese are, let alone anyone who is thinking of breeding them.

              Book Description

This book contains invited lectures and shorter contributions to the workshop `Mathematical, Theoretical and Phenomenological Challenges Beyond the Standard Model: Perspectives of the Balkan Collaborations' (BW2003), which was held in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia, 29 August - 3 September. It was one of the first high-level HEP workshops in the South-East European region after many years, and the papers give a clear perspective on the scientific potential of this area.

The contributions cover topics and problems under research in high-energy particle physics and quantum field theory, in particular: string theory and M-theory; grand unification; quantum gravity and cosmology; standard and noncommutative quantum field theory.

Some papers concern more mathematical topics, such as the integrability topology of gauge groups and operator matrices.

The contributors are leading international scientists, such as G Arutyunov, K Behrndt, G Cardoso, M Chaichian, G Lazarides, D Luest, N Kaloper, G Senjanović, and J Wess, with an emphasis on researchers from South-East Europe, including B Bajc, A Mikovic and B Sazdovic.

                Book Description

The EPA has established regulations which classify four types of disinfection byproducts - TTHMs, haloacetic acids, bromate, and chlorite - and requires public water systems limit these byproducts to specific levels. Most of the information required to comply with these standards is either scattered throughout the literature or derived from conferences or symposiums. Disinfection Byproducts in Drinking Water: Formation, Analysis, and Control pulls all the information together to provide a needed organized presentation of disinfection byproduct analysis, formation, and control. The author begins with an introduction to all disinfection byproducts (DBPs), including their nomenclatures, molecular structures, and formation. He discusses the effects of various water quality parameters on the formation and stability of DBPs in drinking water. He further examines DBP degradation reactions, the effects of various water treatment processes on the formation and removal of DBPs, various technologies for DBP removal and control in drinking water, and the formation and control of inorganic DBPs. The text also reviews past, current, and future regulations, as well as current analytical methods and data evaluation for disinfection byproducts monitoring. Bringing together the findings of many notable researchers in the field, Disinfection Byproducts in Drinking Water serves as a practical guide to understanding the formation of disinfection byproducts and explaining how they are analyzed and controlled. Chemists in plants and laboratories will value the analytical techniques offered in the book, and plant engineers will benefit from the formation and control information.

5 out of 5 stars Really great book.......2003-02-27

This is really a great introductory book for learning mechanics of materials. Each phenomena is dealt with from an energy point of view. This allows of suitable simplications of phenomenologically complicated processes, and presents a comprehensive framework for dealing with a large range of processes. The book can be essentially divided into two parts. The first part introduces the reader to the mechanics fundamentals and the mathematical tools. The second part deals with the application of the tools to develop elasticity and plasticty models. The analysis is consistent throughout, and very lucid. A really great book !

I found this book simply beautiful.
Every subjects are discussed in a truly comprehensive manner, and yet the flow of ideas is retained throughout the chapters. The books shows how exactly each theorem and principle is derived, and the arguments are always based on solid physical terms - a quality that other mechanics books don't always possess.
Might be too tough for undergrads, but very nice for graduate levels.

                  Book Description

This is the extraordinary story of an ordinary family caught in a life or death struggle to save one of their own. With the possibility of a sibling becoming a living organ donor, this courageous family had to face the fact that they could lose not one, but two members. This story is told in a light hearted, yet no-holds-barred manner.

During the process of becoming a donor, the author discovered that there was no information to be found concerning the donors point of view. This book has become the reource for those families considering organ donation and those who have already donated. Even though it is told from the donor's point of view, it focuses on the recipient as well.

This book has been endorsed by members of organizations such as: UNOS, the National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin, the National Donor Family Council, and the New York Regional Transplant Program to name a few.

As I write this review, I am preparing to share the author's experience: I am donating a kidney to a friend who has suffered kidney failure. So much of what Ms Chabot-Long experienced I am now experiencing. The decision to give up a kidney is a very emotional one and I can relate to much of what the author went through. I discovered that she had the same experience that I am going through in that it reached the point where she would have been disappointed if for any reason, she could not have done it. I wanted a good, vivid account of what awaits me in the future and Ms Chabot-Long provides such an account. I feel that I have been clued in as to what awaits me both physically and emotionally. I know that the recovery from the surgery is likely to be painful and I have been given a good firsthand account of what I can expect. I was charmed and moved by her description of her family and what they went through in supporting her. The support I have been receiving has made me very emotional. The author is not a professional writer and it is clear that she did not have a professional editor. She and her husband published the book themselves so the writing style is not necessarily smooth and contains grammatical errors. However, I can easily overlook that since the book hits home as to my personal needs. Furthermore, the author did a fair amount of research and provides technical information in a style understandable to lay people. I recommend this book to anyone who wants good. reliable information on what a kidney donor goes through.

1 out of 5 stars Way too many pages from the life of a living donor.......2000-03-28

As a librarian and a fairly sophisticated user of information, I was indeed pleased to locate this title. My brother had just started dialysis and our family was looking into the pros and cons of living versus cadaver donation. A first-person account of the transplant experience from the point of view of the donor and the recipient was just the sort of introductory material my brother and I were looking for.

Unfortunately, what useful information one could locate on end-stage renal disease, dialysis, the transplantation decision, the surgery or its aftermath was buried under pages and pages of irrelevant detail about the author's family, or was mired in hopelessly inelegant prose, full of glaring errors of grammar and tense. The excerpt of the book that follows the editorial reviews of this title is a perfect example of why clear and concise writing and careful editing are so important.

Given the subtitle "a page from the life of a living donor" one would certainly expect a certain level of personal detail to accompany the facts. Yet Ms. Chabot-Long's account reads like the breathless entries in a teenager's " dear diary." And do we really need to know (over several pages) why it took so long for her to be discharged from the hospital? Hint: this essential bodily function often slows down after surgery. You really don't want to go there.

This account would have been much better if it had been presented as an article in a magazine. It would have forced the author or her editor to stress facts and to highlight the decision-making process that her family used when they faced this crisis.

My brother and I skimmed the book in about an hour and were much better served by the articles I found in reference books, in periodicals, and on the web.
