I did not find this study guide very useful.
Study Guide a must!.......2007-01-07
I always do much better in my accounting classes if I use the Study Guides and this is no exception. A must in my book.
Book Description
The Fifth Edition of ADVANCED FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING continues its strong coverage of the topics, its well-known clarity of presentation, and its integrated coverage based on continuous case examples. The text is highly illustrated with complete presentations of worksheets, schedules, and financial statements so that students can see the development of each new topic. Inclusion of all recent FASB and GASB pronouncements provides a current and contemporary text for students preparing for the CPA examination. In the chapters covering consolidation subsequent to the date of combination, the three alternative methods of accounting for the parent’s investment in the subsidiary are presented in each chapter (basic equity) and appendices (cost and fully adjusted equity) to provide the opportunity for adopters, and students, to cover the differences in the methods, and to see how the consolidated financial statements are the same regardless of the method the parent company uses to account for the investment.

Adv. Accounting Review.......2007-07-26
Although helpful, this book was not as good as some of the study guides I have used in the past.
advanced financal accounting book.......2007-02-23
The product I recieved was mis represented it made it sound like it was the actual book. It did not say that it was only the study guide. When I was searching for the item it said it had it in paperbacka which was cheaper so I ordered it then I recieved not what I wanted.
INFORMATIVE.......2006-05-07
This book covers special accounting entities that are not covered in Intermediate Accounting. This book has become helpful in the different organizations I have been employed. Although the material in this book is a lot - it is necessary. Has an excellent section for Not-for-Profit accounting.
Could Have Been Better.......2003-06-30
I liked this textbook because it is nice and clean and uncluttered inside, however I think that the content could have been better. I had trouble with the first chapter having to do with business combinations in that every time a journal entry was recorded, I had no idea whether the author was referring to the common stock of the purchasing company or the common stock of the selling company. After a while, I finally figured it out, but I thought the problem could have been avoided by being more clear. There are many more examples that I have like this one. I may be being picky about the book seeing as how I took this course via independent study, so I did not have the ability to ask an instructor specific questions. I just think that the authors could have done a better job being more clear on many things. In the end, I did end up getting a A in the course!
Good value for the money.......2000-01-19
I have used this book in conjunction with Gleim's CPA review books in preparation for FARE section of the CPA exam. Excellent supplement especially if you look for technical aspects of purchase/pooling accounting. The chapters on consolidation are truly outstanding. Very thorough and comprehensive. The only drawback as with many other textbooks is the lack of answer keys at the end of the chapter. Overall, I would definitely recommend getting it.

It was delivered promptly and intact. However, I thought it a little pricy but that is the way it is with educational materials.
Book Description
OVERVIEW
The most reader-friendly text on the market, Advanced Accounting: Concepts and Practice 7/e brings real-world accounting topics to the student's level, presenting advanced concepts and issues in a flexible, step-by-step approach. This is the only advanced book that completely separates the following three major concepts dealt with in the consolidations area: (1) the general concept of consolidating (2) the concept of a non-controlling interest, and (3) the change or no change in basis of accounting concepts for business combinations. Separating these concepts makes it much easier for students than having to simultaneously learn multiple concepts.
Customer Reviews:
impossible book.......2003-12-03
As a graduate student in accounting, I've found this book to be the most difficult and the most frustrating to read amongst my collection. This book is certainly not helpful to visual learners as there is mostly very dull text explanation of the subject material. Also, the few in-chapter examples worked out are very difficult to decipher and are poorly explained, so you're left on your own to learn how to do the end of chapter problems.
Finally a great book on Advanced Accounting.......2001-06-27
I have never come across a texbook that makes consolidations easy----until now! It seems that most advanced accounting texts are written by Ph.D's to impress other Ph.D's. This one is different. It actually explains in a concise manner all important aspects of advanced accounting in a way that is easy to understand and apply. Unfortunately, it was written in 1995 and obviously doesn't contain some of the more recent exposure drafts on consolidations and derivative accounting for foreign exchange forward contracts.

Leland Hayes Upland Game birds, Their Breeding & Care.......2000-04-03
This book is one of the most detailed books in the field and it is a must for every owner of gamebirds. Dr.Hayes and his wife have done much researchh and breeding of these birds. He does not try to give information as to what you should do if he hasn't breed or raised or treated birds of any species. The breeder can learn alot and put it to good use in his or her aviary. Thus saving a lot of expense and time with sick birds. Take care of the birds as described will make you a very smart breeder. Besure and purchase this and other books by Dr. Hayes. Also he provides a great service for online game bird questions on his FREE Ezine. Contact him at Leland@LelandHayes.com Thank you G L. Heywood email frizzlebird@yahoo.com
Upland Game Birds By Leland Hayes.......2000-04-03
I have been raising game birds for six years and have all the books but this one by Leland Hayes is my Bible,Any one raising game birds of any breed should have this book, Buy it read it then buy your birds
Great for pheasant fanciers.......2000-04-02
I enjoyed the information this book has to offer. It is written so people of all ages and interests can enjoy it. It is recommended reading for anyone that is beginning to get into pheasants and wants to know about each breed, where they come from, markings, behavior and comparisons. In my opinion the book was too short, Leland Hayes has a LOT more to offer. I can't wait for his next books to come out. I can't say anything more except 4 stars and It is a 2 thumbs up book.
Review of Upland Game Birds by Leland Hayes.......2000-04-01
I found Dr. Hayes book to be very informative regarding the raising and care of many different species of game birds. I appreciated the information on the difficulties associated with particular breeds, as a guide to selecting challenging or easy breeds to raise.
The medication guide alone is worth the price of the book, comparing dosage amounts and alternative medications for most common ailments.
This is the first book I have found with useful information for the small-scale breeder, as opposed to the large commercial game bird operator.
Upland Game Birds-Their Breeding and Care.......2000-04-01
We bought this book because we are going to raise some game birds this spring. This book covers alot of usefull information, matter of fact we have put some of the other books we bought on the book shelf because this book has more information (use able information) then they did. Karla Fischbach

Book Description
System identification provides methods for the sensible approximation of real systems using a model set based on experimental input and output data. Tohru Katayama sets out an in-depth introduction to subspace methods for system identification in discrete-time linear systems thoroughly augmented with advanced and novel results. The text is structured into three parts. First, the mathematical preliminaries are dealt with: numerical linear algebra; system theory; stochastic processes; and Kalman filtering. The second part explains realization theory, particularly that based on the decomposition of Hankel matrices, as it is applied to subspace identification methods. Two stochastic realization results are included, one based on spectral factorization and Riccati equations, the other on canonical correlation analysis (CCA) for stationary processes. Part III uses the development of stochastic realization results, in the presence of exogenous inputs, to demonstrate the closed-loop application of subspace identification methods CCA and ORT (based on orthogonal decomposition). The addition of tutorial problems with solutions and Matlab® programs which demonstrate various aspects of the methods propounded to introductory and research material makes Subspace Methods for System Identification not only an excellent reference for researchers but also a very useful text for tutors and graduate students involved with courses in control and signal processing. The book can be used for self-study and will be of much interest to the applied scientist or engineer wishing to use advanced methods in modeling and identification of complex systems.
Book Description
Bomber pilots who become fighter aces are rare-Hermann Buchner was one. A Luftwaffe NCO pilot and Knight's Cross holder, the author gives a riveting account of his training with the pre-war Austrian airforce, instructing with the Luftwaffe, then the terrifying ground attack operations on the Eastern Front trying to stop the Russian mincing machine. Sometimes taking off from his home airfield while under Soviet shellfire, he paints a picture of a man surviving against incredible odds, who became one of the elite with JG7, and learned that the important thing with the Me 262 was to land near a convenient foxhole . . .
Customer Reviews:
The Life & Times of a Schlachtflieger!.......2006-06-02
The military career of Hermann Buchner, a Luftwaffe pilot who mostly flew ground attack missions on the Eastern Front in Bf 109s and FW 190s, is given the award-winning Hikoki treatment in this nicely illustrated autobiography published in 2000.
After a brief chapter on his early life in Austria, Buchner relates his experiences in joining the Luftwaffe, training and eventual assignment to SG 1, a ground-attack wing on the Eastern Front, in March 1942. Buchner saw much combat, surviving numerous hairy missions and scoring 46 air kills before being transferred to Defense of the Reich duties in November 1944. He subsequently flew Me 262 combat ops with JG 7, notching up 12 more victories. His narrative ends abruptly at war's end.
Visually STORMBIRD is a treat. Lots of rare photos of Eastern Front ground-attack aircrew and aircraft complement the text as do 13 pages of John Weal/Jon Field color profiles of aircraft flown by Buchner from the beginning of his flying career till the bitter end in 1945 (FW 44, Bf 109, FW 190, etc.)
Buchner's narrative however is a bit disappointing. You would expect that the missions flown by a Schlachtflieger on the Russian Front were some of the hairiest of the war. Buchner however doesn't recount all that many flights and spends more time giving an almost dispassionate travelogue of wartime life in Russia. Could the intervening years have erased all those memories?
Had Buchner recounted more of his life-and-death experiences, I would have easily given the book a five-star rating. It's a wonderful package typical of Hikoki Publications but, in terms of history, I view it as an an opportunity lost.
Not bad.......2006-01-21
Hermann Buchner spent most of his combat career flying FW-190s on the Eastern Front in a schlacter (strike or ground-attack) group. His squadron was initially equipped with Bf-109s, so he flew many combat missions in this type as well. It was only in 1945 that he flew the Me-262. While he was a schlacter pilot, Buchner and his fellow pilots were discouraged from dogfighting, so this book doesn't have as many descriptions of dogfights as Lipfert's or Knoke's.
The narrative as a whole was unimaginative. It seems as though he wrote his memoirs many years after the war, and has pieced together his combat career from official Luftwaffe documents, including his combat logbook. But it doesn't appear that he kept a private journal or war diary. This means that we get a good idea of where he fought and when the milestones in his career occurred, but descriptions of combat are general or lacking. However, the book has good descriptions of what fighting on the eastern front was like, and many stories about accidents or strange incidents.
Highlights of the book include:
A prolonged dogfight against a P-47
A combat mission during which Buchner flies as wingman in his Fw-190 together with a JG52 Bf-109 with gruppe commander markings
The final days of the evacuation from the Crimea
A mock dogfight with a Romanian IAR-80
Flying the Me-262
I give the book a 4 instead of a 3 because the book is packed with extras: Buchner's logbook, color plates of the planes he flew and fought against, excellent footnotes, and pictures. It seems as though it's impossible to open the book without seeing a picture, and this is a very nice feature indeed since the book has a tall, wide format and is printed on high quality (shiny) paper.
This is a good book if you want a decent autobiography plus plates and pictures of 109s, 190s, and 262s, but get Lipfert's or Juutilainen's (Finnish ace,'Double Fighter Knight')if you want dozens of detailed descriptions of Eastern front dogfights. Get Hannig's book if you want good writing from a Fw-190 pilot.

Book Description
Living with a Miracle is a compelling story of a mother's love and desperate attempt to build a life and family while fighting for her child's life.
In the fall of 1988, after a difficult and complicated pregnancy, Syra Marie was born. Elation is not strong enough to express the joy of becoming a mother.
The day after Syra was born; the pediatrician informed me she had a heart murmur. Being a nurse, I was concerned but had no reason to believe it was anything life threatening, many children are born with heart murmurs and lead a normal life. That evening after our "celebration" dinner, we returned to the nursery to see Syra. However, our celebration quickly turned into a nightmare. Life Flight was flying our baby to a children's hospital two hours away. Only two days old following a heart catherization, we were told Syra had a rare and lethal heart defect.
This is a story that cuts to the heart of a mother's love for her child and their journey together against impossible odds.
Here is Syra's story
Customer Reviews:
Count Your Blessings.......2006-12-15
We personally met Sally and Syra when we had our own little miracle baby and spent time at Geisinger with them. Unfortunately we lost touch and did not realize how much they had been through over the years. This is a wonderful book written from the heart of a truly loving mother who stood by her precious baby through many struggles. The ending will have you in tears and touch your life in a special way. God Bless.
