Having read Haines' "The Complete Guide to Systems Thinking & Learning," I was glad to see a shorter, easy to use guide. What I liked most about this guide is the simple models & guideline boxes. How much simpler can it get than having someone remind you how to use the models or ask you the questions necessary to put theory into practice? In my opinion, this pocket guide is a great fit for today's "time crunching" managers.

I was looking for a simple book on systems thinking and this is definitly it. However I find it in many cases too simplistic. It mixes hard and soft system thinking without enough care for the origin of this separation. If you are interested in system thinking you can start here but certainly not stop here.

The learning organization is one of those terms that people like to use but often really don't know what it means. Well now help is here! Look no further than The Manager's Pocket Guide to Organizational Learning. In fact, I had been looking for such a book when happily I came across this one. And it's a delight. Author Stephen Gill boils the concepts down into neat, easily and easily actionable ideas. Gill, a noted consultant with three decades worth of experience, creates a tripartite prism for coming to grips with organizational learning: individual, team, and whole organization. After deftly explaining that while learning begins with individuals, it is the application of that learning as it spreads to groups and whole organizations that gives rise to organizational learning. Learning, as Gill states, is imperative for organizations to grow and thrive.

The power of this book echoes in its strategies for learning, which Gill groups into his three frameworks. In "Strategies for Individual Learning," we discover the importance of the personal learning style as well as work﷓life balance. "Strategies for Group Learning" emphasizes alignment with organizational goals and the importance of creating a shared vision. Action learning is also integral to this strategy; adults often learn best by doing. This book tells you everything you need to know about raising ducks. I've had a small flock of ducks for six years now, and this book has been very useful.

Unlike most of the other livestock books I've read, it is well written, and holds your interest. I sometimes actually reread this book for fun, even when I'm not looking for any specific information.

An excellent book that can help the novice (or prospective) Duck Keeper get started right. It also offer a tremendous amount of informationa and insights for the experienced keeper. The author combines a rare knowledge of the subject with an excellent ability to share and a wonderful writing style. If you keep, or plan to keep ducks, this should be in your library. The New Edition has been retitled 'Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks: Breeds, Care, Health' by the publisher and includes updated information and a new section on color genetics of ducks.

I have read this book so many times now, I may need a new copy. I decided to get ducks to raise, but first read this book,suggested to me by online poultry news group folks.I have had no difficulties raising ducks now because I followed all the advice from Dave's book.I had never raised poultry of my own before. And after having ducks, I also went the next step and ordered live adult rare ducks from this author,who also owns a duck preservation center. Beautiful,magnificent ducks ! Before I had to move into the city, I raised Muscovy ducks as a hobby. This book is indispensible and very well written. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to raise waterfowl for fun or profit. The book also contains a large bibliography covering the statistical, machine learning, and pattern recognition literature related to network monitoring and intrusion detection. David Marchette is a scientist at the Naval Surface Warfacre Center in Dalhgren, Virginia. He has worked at Navy labs for 15 years, doing research in pattern recognition, computational statistics, and image analysis. He has been a fellow by courtesy in the mathematical sciences department of the Johns Hopkins University since 2000. He has been working in conputer intrusion detection for several years, focusing on statistical methods for anomaly detection and visualization. Dr. Marchette received a Masters in Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego in 1982 and a Ph.D. in Computational Sciences and Informatics from George Mason University in 1996.

Tremendous Addition.......2004-11-24

This is a tremendous addition to a little studied area of Civil War military science - supply and movement of the wherewithal. A 1990 find still bound in government 'red tape', these records provided rich background on the incredible paperwork and labor needed to supply the hay, grain, horses and mules, ordinance, hospitals, quarters, and the myriad other items needed by a fighting force. We tend not to comprehend the millions of pounds of grain and hay required for just one campaign, for example, nor do we think of the civilian clerks, laborers, teamsters, and others that helped carry out the quartermaster function. This activity was replicated wherever Union soldiers served. All this plus fascinating background on the 23-year-old Captain Simon Perkins, Quartermaster in the Western Theater.

Dr Kuhn, in the Preface says that "Years ago I was challendged to ask God to break my heart with the things that break His heart." Few of us will have the courage or will to live such a self sacrificing journey in life. "My Eyes, His Heart" gives those of us who only dream of the journey a chance to feel a little bit of what Dr. Kuhn has lived for the last 30 years. It is a wonderful treat. Thank you Dr. Ted Kuhn.

Heartwarming, heartbreaking, but above all eye opening.

Glimpses of the immediate and eternal.......2002-12-03

This book contains twenty-three short (usually 2-3 page long) glimpses from the travels and work of Dr. Kuhn as a medical missionary to various locations in South America, Africa, and Asia. Each one gives a vivid sense of the place, the immediate physical suffering of the people, and the eternal spiritual joy they can (and in some cases do) have in that suffering.

For me, this book is not so much about the work of missions, though it is about that, as it is about seeing the spiritual reality alongside what we perceive with our physical senses. This book is sad as it talks about the suffering of many real people. This book may move you to compassion for those around the world who suffer physically and spiritually without hope. But, whether or not you become a missionary to the far reaches of the world, I hope this book gives you a sense of the immediate and eternal together in everyone you encounter.

The book is a very quick read and is well written. Since it is organized in a series of short chapters, it is easy to pick up and put down. This book will be of particular interest to those involved or interested in mercy ministries and missions.
