What a fun book! Stronger than Dirt is a funny, fun, interesting look into the world of farming -- through formerly non-farmers' eyes. Told in a "he says, she says" format, you're able to see both sides of a funny -- and true -- story. Ms. Schaye's descriptions of the heat, sweat, labor, and truly beautiful countryside contrast with Mr. Losee's idealistic, optimistic, and realistic descriptions of the -- heat, sweat, and labor -- that went into starting their farm in Upstate New York. Their "truthful" and "no-holds-barred" writing style lets you feel their pains, triumphs, and successes almost first-hand. Even though my thumb is beyond black and I am not really into gardening, I enjoyed this book for the unusual and charming story that it is. I found myself laughing with their humor, and wincing with their setbacks, and I loved hearing about their families' reactions.

This book provides the first summary of support knowledge management principles and practices. Support industry KM is finally coming of age and this book shares its hard-learned lessons about how best to leverage content in the call center, for self-service and to drive overall customer satisfaction. The major trends and practices are covered, as well as specific examples of metrics, performance management, knowledge development strategy and technology selection.

Chock full of good advice, entertaining, relevant anecdotes and clear definitions and practice descriptions, it is a handbook in the best sense of that word. The authors speak from many years of experience and pull it together in a style that's succinct and meaningful, not overly theoretical. It's heavy on the how-to's and light on the theory. An excellent resource for people looking to understand the terrian of knowledge management in the services & support context, and to probe best practices developed over the past 20 years. People who want a deeper view into knowledge creation and sharing may want to read more academic or research-oriented texts. This is a 'how to' for people creating how-to's, and as such succeeds brilliantly. Highly recommended!

Silberman on Spenser on Love.......2001-02-15

Lauren Silberman is not only a savvy critic but an informed scholar. This book is now a classic among Spenserians and it is not hard to see why: Silberman is funny (and unusually appreciative of Spenser's own humor)and also humane. She understands that Spenser's exploration of erotic relations in Books 3 and 4 of The Faerie Queene is not designed simply to demonstrate a truth expressible in a sermon or parental exhortation to behave oneself but rather to test, to interrogate, to analyze, to comment with some irony on human sexual behavior and the desires that impel it. What first struck me when reading this lovely book was Silberman's ingenious way of reading Spenser's early modern text in the light of some very postmodern science. Silberman doesn't mean that Spenser anticipated quantum mechanics or string theory, but she does show that what modern science has to say about "chaos" and other concepts is already figured in Spenser's sense of the world's and Amor's slipperiness. The best guidebook for Gen-Xer's.......2000-07-30

Time Out guides are the best! Their reviews and write-ups are funny, entertaining but very true. I used to live in Moscow and the places they mentioned are top and are the places to BE. The sightseeing, essential info, restaurants and bars were all very well reviewd and described.

A very helpful guide to Moscow........2000-06-30

On a recent trip to Moscow I used this book, and found it very helpful. It is both intelligently writen and layed out. Although, it's section on St. Petersburg is very short compaired to that of the section covering Moscow, it is to the point, and helpful. There are so many differint beautiful places in Moscow this book really helps when deciding where to go. The metro maps really come in handy since they are in english. The information is not influenced by advertisers, so you know you can count on the opinions of the authors. You can't always count on the prices listed though, since they change regulary and are are higher if you are not Russian. (Though you get a genral idea) Overall this is a great book and I recomend it to any one considering visting Moscow or St. Petersburg.
