If you did well in gen chem, then this book will be great for reviewing concepts in a timely manner. The section on acid\base chemistry and electrochemistry are quick and to the point.

Exceptional MCAT Prep Materials.......2002-04-29

This book contains all the info necessary to do well on the Physical Sciences section of the MCAT. Everything is presented very clearly and this book truly gives you an understanding of mcat chemistry. I recently took the April MCAT and I must say that this book and the Examkrackers physics made me feel like the PS was a JOKE! Their materials allow you to understand the mcat science conceptually such that no mcat item is EVER intimidating. Each lecture is complemented with a 30min exam where you can test the concepts as you review. (They're challenging though) Examkrackers all the way with no Imitations!!!

This book is layed out in a fashion that allows you to learn the material in a simple but productive manner. If your going to take the mcat this book will teach you chemistry.

Top notch book that makes learning the Organic section of the MCAT as painless as possible. All the relevant information without the unnecessary "jibber-jabber". This book will definately get you prepared in the most efficient way possible. The other books (especially the verbal book) also come highly reccommended.

I read this book twice now, and I think this book really helps alot. Other than those kaplan books which tells you straight out facts in a very boring way, EK orgo gives you good insight to understand the material fast. I think this books is a great book, but if you want 15 on the bs section, you should also look at other books like kaplan or princeton for more practice.

Sloppy book, lots of errors.......2005-02-09

I was disappointed in this book. I stopped using this book early on in my preparations because I kept finding typos as well as factual mistakes. The content is very brief, which is okay, but it is hard enough studying for the MCAT without worrying whether or not the material I am memorizing is correct or not. I really don't recommend this book.

It gets to the point and fast.......2004-08-04

Like almost every other examkrackers books this book gets straight to the point. It is a great review for the MCAT organic section which seems to be undergoing constant revisions by the AAMC. I am happy to say that examkrackers tries to keep up with the changes and accurately reflects them. This is in contrast to a lot of the other books put out by Kaplan and The Princeton Review who republishes the same edition with a new cover and that's it. The contents barely change. Just take a look at any Kaplan organic review book and you'll know what I mean. Organic has always been my strong suit and I can easily deduce a lot of the reactions. But I needed to touch up on isomerism which is a critical portion of the MCAT for which I used this book. The book is straightforward...has 4 chapters (100 pages) with four 30 minute exams and practice questions pertaining to each section in between. For those who live by flash card or index cards...this book comes with a bunch of them which covers everything from IR specs to the pinacol rearrangement. Highly recommended.

Glimpse into Victorian psyche from Crimea to Khartoum.......2003-01-04

This fascinating little book tells the life of Valentine Baker, once British General but exiled into the service of the Turkish and Egyptian governments. The story of Baker's family (his brother Samual was a famous African explorer) and his own personal travails is told against a backdrop of life in the British Army from the Crimea to Khartoum. Readers of other works on the individual battles will the find the whole story told here with a unique sense of continuity. The various adventures of British forces in the Crimea, Turkey and Egypt were not unrelated events but part of a foreign policy as complex and tortured as our own today.
Baker's own personal story is also fascinating, and his interaction with other famous figures of the time (the Prince of Wales, General Wolseley, Gordon, Gladstone, etc.) shows them in a very revealing light. Their relationship with Baker reveals their personal side, something lacking in most history books.
The only unfortunate thing about the book is that the author does not identify her relationship with the Baker family. One assumes she is somehow related to the subject of the book, based on it's dedication to her husband "Valentine Edward Baker". It would help to put the tale in perspective if we knew a bit more about her point of view.

a short, sympathetic view of an apparent relative.......1998-08-31

the authour appears to be a distant relative of the subject of this book. I gave the book four stars, not because of any real "depth" to the biography, but solely because of the relative dearth of biographies of this ill-served man, Valentine Baker. for a general outline of valentine baker's life, this is a good read. however, one hopes that someone will do some serious research into the man's life and write the definitive biography of a sad, unsung hero of the late 1800s.

El Anestesista incrédulo preguntó donde estaba el cirujano. Yo soy respondió. Terminada la intervencion la monjita estaba preocupada por el reto. Tiene que bautizarlo, es un ser humano. Realizé no solo mi primera operación, sino también mi único y último bautismo. Decepcionado abandona su País para afrontar nuevas dificultades en América. No está segura si el precio pagado para estudiarla justifica todos sus esfuerzos. El libro es un ejemplo de la tenacidad y dedicación de un médico extranjero, enfrentandose a un futuro incierto. Una admirable lección para las nuevas generaciones de estudiantes de Medicina.
