Excellent synopsis of what to expect as a chiropractor!.......1999-03-18
Fantastic
Out-dated views on a chiropractic career........1997-12-19
Dr. Sportelli has apparently made the decision to provide a very limited view of a chiropractors role. Chiropractic is not about back pain, it is concerned with the removal of interference to the nerve system, thereby allowing the body to function closer to its potential. Chiropractic has never been about "LOW BACK PAIN"---it is this type of misconception which has permeated our society and continues to be spurred on by texts such as this. Dr. Sportelli graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in the 1950's. He most certainly was not taught such nonsense at Palmer, for his pigeon-holed concept is not taught there, nor at any other good chiropractic college. Chiropractic recognizes and deals with the bodies inborn mechanisms. Dr. Sportelli's book was quite a disappointment in this and other respects. My advice, pass this one by and talk to someone at a college such as Palmer, Sherman or Life College and get the facts.

Book Description
From the reviews: "This monumental work will henceforth be the standard interpretation of ancient mathematical astronomy. It is easy to point out its many virtues: comprehensiveness and common sense are two of the most important. Neugebauer has studied profoundly every relevant text in Akkadian, Egyptian, Greek, and Latin, no matter how fragmentary; [...] With the combination of mathematical rigor and a sober sense of the true nature of the evidence, he has penetrated the astronomical and the historical significance of his material. [...] His work has been and will remain the most admired model for those working with mathematical and astronomical texts. D. Pingree in Bibliotheca Orientalis, 1977 "... a work that is a landmark, not only for the history of science, but for the history of scholarship. HAMA [History of Ancient Mathematical Astronomy] places the history of ancient Astronomy on a entirely new foundation. We shall not soon see its equal. N.M. Swerdlow in Historia Mathematica, 1979

The Theory of The Heavens.......2005-10-23
This three volume set is precious to me. Each time I dip into these books, I find new treasures. Since Galileo, astronomy has become an observational science, but, as Neugebauer observes: "Ancient Astronomy was overwhelmingly mathematical astronomy." He shows us how the ancients took the few and uncertain observations they had and worked out such things as the relative longitudes of Carthage and Arbela, the secne of Alexander's great victory over Darius III in 331 BC, (Ptolemy's work), the distance to the Moon (Hipparchus' work), and the length of the year.
If you want to know what the ancients knew, and how they knew it, this is the place to look. Specialists will plow through these books. Those of us with an interest in ancient science will find browsing these volumes rewarding. And, if you get hooked, there are copies on Amazon.

Book Description
These two volumes which concern mathematical statistical chronology represent a major, unique work and are the first of its kind published in the English language.
A comprehensive set of mathematical and statistical techniques is presented for the analysis of chronological data. These include, as main tool, the means to compare texts and other sequential data and the ability to judge them in terms of similarity and, hence, closeness. These techniques constitute a new important trend in applied statistics.
Volume I concentrates mainly on the development of the mathematical statistical tools and their application to astronomical data, including the Almagest and simulated data (to test the validity of the methods). Substantial material dealing with historical data and chronology is also included.
Volume II concentrates on the application of these tools to narrative texts and ancient and medieval records (such as Egyptian, Byzantine, Roman, Greek, Babylonian, etc.). An astonishing wealth of historical data is considered. The conclusions which are drawn concerning the accepted chronological dating of events in ancient history will certainly provoke controversy and serious debate. These two volumes provide the necessary background and material for intelligent participation in such debates.
For statisticians, historians, astronomers, archaeologists, and others with an interest in the integrity of historical dating and the means to analyze this.

I find this book most amazing one I ever have read........2001-01-09
I find this book most amazing one I ever have read. If you read this book carefully you will be impressed how many things we take for granted and without any critique. You will be surprised how subtle and non-reliable is the building of modern history and chronology. To read this book is more interesting than any novel of Steven King.
A bug found in History 1.03b !.......2001-01-08
Words in reviews cant make you believe thet history you`ve learnd might not be the correct one, but onec you get hands on this book and read just the readeble parts you`ll see all events in new light. My advice for everyone interested in history is to read this book in order to be able to manage history data better. Fomenko did not present any suggestions on how the real history did look like and explains how hard it is going to be to put all peaces togeather. Aditional efforts could make this book more readable. The whole prepress could have been better. That would make it far more understandable. I`ll just poit out once more - if you realy want to believe in your history picture you will have to put it now to much serious tests that Fomenko and his assosiates have developed.
Mathematics against the fraud in history.......1999-12-14
First of all, the price for this English edition of Fomeko's book on chronology is too high, but that's a common practice to price high monographs in math (simply, it's assumed that nobody except few sepecialists in the area would ever read them), so I read this book in Russian. But, this is not a math book in usual sense. Russian is not my first language, so I had plenty of trouble reading this book but it was worthy of my effort. It is an excelent example how mathematics and statistics enter new areas to examine their accuracy and correctness. Traditionally, math-free history enjoyed lots of flexibility in presenting its descriptions of historical events. History, as we know, may sometimes be incorrect, but how incorrect can it be? According to Fomenko the magnitude of this incorrectness is so massive that it is simply shocking. He supports his claims by mathematical and statistical methods - i.e. scientific methods which became a new exciting area of the applied mathematics. Some of the most shocking statements of Fomenko are related to the global chronology of historical events. Simply, he claims that our history was extended artificially (by mistake or intentionally) by about 1000 year. That means, it's not the year 2000 but the year 1000. In order to learn how these claims were made, the reader should read the books by Fomenko devoted the global chronology of historical events.
Heavy going, unsettling, and extremely thought-provoking.......1998-07-24
This book, and its companion volume, represent fairly unidiomatic translations (from the Russian) of a long series of papers that explore various statistical techniques used by the author and his colleagues to delve into the subject of historical chronology -- i.e. the "science" of dating historical events. The going can be heavy because many of the papers are written in mathematicalese ("Let" statement . . . "Then" statement . . . "It follows that" . . . etc."), there is a lot of duplication of information because each was written to stand on its own, and there is a frustrating lack of summing up because the conclusions defy definitive conclusion. Nevertheless, the mathematical methods look sound (to a mathematically literate non-mathematician) and the hypotheses will turn your world upsidedown. To wit: We can't trust the dating of any historical event that happened before the 14th or 15th century; that whole sequences of! events in the historical record may be mistranscriptions of other sequences of events (the Roman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, for instance); that history is thus much compressed from what we have learned since kindergarten, and civilization could be much younger than we believe. Because these lines of inquiry (the non-mathematical ones) began in the early days of the Soviet Union, one may be suspicious about ulterior (political) motives, and some independent verifying of some of the accepted "facts" is called for. But this raises more questions about the knowability of history than it can possibly attempt to answer, and it does plunge one headlong into the mysteries of the now ignored study of historical chronology. We've used the same temporal scaffolding for centuries without recently examining its foundation. Maybe its time for a new look. Turgid going, but dizzying implications.
Customer Reviews:
A clear jewel in the sea of postmodern confusion.......1997-12-09
This book is sheer brilliance. The fact that it is taken from lectures may be the reason behind its clear and unpretentious language. But while clear and unpretentious, Professor Keller's reflections shows philosophy, or for that matter academics, in its simplest yet most currently significant form: rather than bombarded with theoretical jargon (read nonsense if you wish), the reader is presented with a history of a specific knowledge (the biologist's explanation of "life" in the early and mid 20th. century). The preface serves as an outline of how to read this book, and, when effective, sets the context for reading any similar epistemological analysis. Unlike many other "postmodern" philosophical works, this book fits beautifully in the context it sets. It is multi-dimensional - feminists, philosophers, biologists, and others will benefit from incisive commentary which is extremely pertinent to their field. As a work which is set (and sets itself) in the context of epistemological relativism, it has one drawback: within the next few years, I expect its relevance to shift, from work of contemporary genius and immediate relevance to harbinger of new epistomological foundations. Still, it is refreshing to read a work of genius by a living person; if you have not realized this yet, I recommend you take a few days to read this book and be enlightened . . .

Book Description
Is War A Thing To Be Forgotten?
That's what Annie's mother would like to do. She wants to forget the pain and heartache--and to keep it away from Annie, too. But Annie cannot forget the death of her favorite uncle, who was killed in France. She cannot forget Andrew, the angry young veteran she meets at the hospital where her father works. Can Annie find the courage to help Andrew? And will she ever be able to make sense of a war that took so much from so many?
Drawn to the Kansas hospital where her father cares for wounded World War One veterans, Annie meets Andrew, a disfigured young soldier. As Annie helps Andrew slowly adjust to his wounds, she also faces devastating truths about war and the complex world of adulthood. `A girl on the brink of womanhood comes to terms with the brutal aftereffects of war in an absorbing novel.' After the Dancing Days
By Margaret I. Rostkowski
Report By Charlotte Beal
Annie is a curious adolesant who is extremely creative and she loves people. She is very smart and feels that she is much for mature than all of her friends. Annie's father is a doctor for veterans that got hurt in World War I. After the war is over Annie's father gets transferred to a hospital near Annie's home. All Annie wants to do is go to the hospital with her father. At the hospital Annie meets Andrew who is a young veteran that was burned in the war. Annie and Andrew start a quest to find out about Annie's uncles death. This book has fantastic writing and a great plot. It also is the perfect length; however, the beginning is a little slow. After the Dancing days is a mystery filled with romance and friendship. This book is a fast read and it is a real page turner. Margaret I. Rostkowski writes with a romantic style. She does a good job of writing the book in Annie's perspective. Anybody could like this book, but it is especially for historical fiction and romance lovers.
After The Danceing Days!.......2005-12-20
This book is called,After The Dancing DAYS.This is one of my favator booksI have ever read. There is a girl and boy that go to a dance and they date.i like this book because it is aboutlove and the author caught my attention by useing beatful words. You should read it some time.It is a very good book.
Pretty good.......2005-09-09
I really liked this book, but I think it would have been interesting had Annie been older, with more experience instead of being so curious. But it's still worth reading. :)
After the Dancing Days Review by Caitlin Dalton.......2004-12-09
After the Dancing days is about a 13-year-old girl named Annie. It takes place in a small town outside of Kansas City, in 1919. World War One has just ended and Annie becomes interested in one of the wounded soldiers at the hospital where her dad works. Annie and Andrew, the soldier, end up becoming good friends, and Annie has to make the choice of obeting her mom and not going to the hosital or keep visting Andrew. She decides to keep visiting Andrew while her mom is away for the summer. While visiting the hospital and talking to the men Annie learns about the true horrors of the war, and not just what the newspapers and adults tell her. I gave this book three stars because it is a good book, but at points it isn't all that interesting. Overall it wasn't too bad but I have read some more interesting books.
This book relates to the essential question of "What does it mean to be an American?" There were some people after WWI, like Annie's mom, that tried to forget about the war and the soldiers who came back wounded. Annie discovers that the wounded soldiers are still normal men that shouldn't be ignored. Annie's mom does in the end figure this out. I think that during this time period, being an American meant acknowledging the wounded soldiers and realizing that they were also suffering from the war.
After The Dancing Days.......2004-11-04
My book is about a girl named Annie who grew up during world War I.Annie is going to pick her father up where she sees wounded soldiers. When they get home her father tells them that he still wants to work at the hospital. Annie goes and visits the hospital and meets a young boy names Andrew. As they start to grow closer they open more about themselves and they learn more about the war and how Annie's uncle died.
I think this book is for a 11 to 13 years old. I did not like this book because the climax was not exciting.
