Legal Foundations of International Monetary Stability which will appeal to both practitioners and academics, is a book on monetary law and related aspects of financial regulation providing a systematic and thorough study of how national, supra-national and international developments have dramatically changed the dynamic field of monetary law over the last two decades. Lastra looks at this in three main parts. Beginning with the notion of monetary sovereignty, its attributes and limitations, the author goes on to analyse the concept of monetary stability and the institutional developments to promote it, in particular independent central banks and currency boards. Since a sound banking system is essential for maintaining monetary stability, the book also presents a legal study of the design of supervision and of the mechanisms available to the national authorities to confront banking crises and to maintain financial stability. The monetary law reform process in emerging economies is also examined. The second part of the book covers European monetary law, the history of monetary integration in Europe, the institutions of Monetary Union (the European System of Central Banks and the Euro) and the functioning and challenges confronted by this new institutional arrangement, in particular with regard to the governance structure for financial regulation and supervision. In the third part the international monetary system, its history and institutions, with emphasis on the law of the International Monetary Fund, is examined. It also presents a rethinking of the way international financial institutions manage financial crises. This new text fills a gap in the current public international law literature for a systematic and comprehensive text on the international monetary and financial system and is essential reading for academics and practitioners in the field of monetary law.

Financial markets embed expectations of central bank policy into asset prices. This paper compares two approaches that extract a probability density of market beliefs. The first is a simulated moments estimator for option volatilities described in [Mizrach, B., 2002. When Did the Smart Money in Enron Lose Its' Smirk? Rutgers University Working Paper #2002-24]; the second is a new approach developed by [Haas, M., Mittnik, S., Paolella, M.S., 2004a. Mixed normal conditional heteroskedasticity, J. Financial Econ. 2, 211-250] for fat-tailed conditionally heteroskedastic time series. In an application to the 1992-1993 European Exchange Rate Mechanism crises, we find that both the options and the underlying exchange rates provide useful information for policy makers.

This study examines which financial stability responsibilities have been delegated to central banks (CBs), how these responsibilities are executed, and whether democratic accountability arrangements are in place. The results of our survey among all CBs in the OECD area suggest that there is no unambiguous definition of financial stability or systemic risk, and that, generally, the responsibility for financial stability is not explicitly formulated in laws. Moreover, there is considerable heterogeneity in the way CBs pursue the financial stability objective. Our results also suggest that the democratic accountability of the financial stability function of central banks is often poorly arranged.

I really loved this book. I liked it so much that I don't have a favorite part. I loved the whole thing. My friend and I read alot of these books and this is one of her favorites, too. I liked both sides and how they were connected.

Jessie has recently developed super powers and might be the strongest in generations. Unlike others, she has more than one power. Luckily she has a boyfriend who knows her secret. Or is it lucky?
Jessie's sixteenth birthday is just around the corner and life has become super complex. Her mother seems to have feelings for the local sheriff and Jessie has a hard time dealing with it. To add to the confusion Jessie must face braces, eggplant, an emasculated boyfriend, the trials of the League of Liberty, her birthday, and someone who wants to burn down the school.
Once again we see that Jessie is just a normal girl even if she can pick up an elephant. Her personal problems and feelings show a real person. I hope this series keeps on going although giving Jessie a more intelligent vocabulary would fit better (she has trouble with words she should know but not with ones she should have little exposure to).
A hilarious read.......2005-03-20
I really enjoyed reading this book and read it in one sitting.
Jessie, from the previous Super What?, is back! She gets into more wacky adventures, not to mention, more problems! At one point she feels everyone is mad at her - but never fear! Jessie is here! Jessie manages to appease everyone she has angered - and she even cracks a case about an arsonist at her school!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was a fun, breezy read. I suggest you read Super What? before this, though. It might make more sense. I cannot wait for more of Mrs. Abbott's books. She is truly talented when it comes to writing humorous reads for teens.
Highly recommended to anyone looking for a good, funny read!
super mess, part 2.......2005-02-23
Jessie, the world's oldest fledgling superhero, is back! Now she is in control of her powers (sort of), and is happy with her boyfriend, Seth. Her 16th birthday is coming up, and she is psyched. Then she finds out she has to get braces- and her dentist is an evil freak. Seth gets inferiority complex from having a girlfriend who can lift his car over her head. Jessie freaks while learning to drive, and breaks the car! She sends her teacher into early retirement, gets publicly humiliated by her mom, manages to dye her hair orange, and she still has to prepare herself for the superhero trials, or she might get taken away from her family! Can Jessie survive the super stress?

You would think that having super powers would make life simpler, and until she acquired them, Jessie would have agreed. Now she's learning that they cause at least as many problems as they solve and are useless in handling things like broken hearts, jealousy, braces, and bad hair days. They can't even help her pass her driving exam; however they do require her to take the trials- dreaded tests that determine whether she can live at home or must be fostered to one of the council fogies until she is grown. At her lowest point, when Jessie is sure she will fail the trials, since she's failing everything else, the possibility of being sent away almost seems like a good thing. Yet, when it all comes down to it, she finds that she does have super powers that count, ones of the soul.
**** Having ''super" as part of the title is almost redundant- becaue this book is super under any name. Jessie's crises and how she handles them will make her a super hero to a world of normals who face the same things. Maybe she can help them laugh when they want to cry. As an aside, if the demented dentist is looking for a new gig, she might consider joining a tour of Little Shop of Horrors. ****
Hilarious Sequel to 'Super WHAT?'.......2005-01-26
Superhero-in-training, Jessie, has a lot on her mind. Her sixteenth birthday is quickly approaching, and she plans on it being the sweetest sixteen ever. Unfortunately, there are a few qualms that she must overcome before the big day. First of all, she needs to figure out what possessed her to drive her mother's boyfriend's - who just happens to be the sheriff in town - car into a river. Second, she totally needs to calm down about her new boyfriend - who is quite the hottie - trying to get to second base with her. Third, she needs to figure out what in the world possessed her to not only tell the prestige League of Liberty that superpowers are such a thing of the past; but to also accuse the quarterback - and all around popular jock - of setting the school on fire. And if that weren't enough, Jessie has to find a way of apologizing to her evil orthodontist for purposely blowing up his drill when he announced that it was time for her to get braces. Now Jessie has to figure out how sixteen can be so sweet when you've got problems galore.
I adored Abbott's first installment featuring Jessie, SUPER WHAT? But it is now obvious that SUPER 16 has taken over my heart. As always, Jessie's hilarious personality is shining through as brightly as possible, while at the same time she is filled with enough teen angst to fill a hot air balloon. This is a fabulous, laugh-out-loud thrill ride for any girl who has ever had the dream of possessing super powers, as they will quickly see that being super-human isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Useless garbage.......2007-02-25
I recieved this book as a gift from a relative who meant well, but was not very gun savvy...
This book sufers from the 'need to put out another title syndrome.' In effect, nothing in this book is of value- the modifications are flights of fancy or hack job work. Basic searching on the internet will teach you more about building or upgrading the AR-15 platform than this book. Additionally, it is rife with inaccuracies and/or bad techniques to do modifications to the AR-15.
Morevover, this book is at least a decade and a half out of date. Many of the companies listed as parts sources (Rhino Systems for example) have been out of business for a decade, and it doesn't even address the A3 flattop configuartion that is the standard these days. It is obvious that the book is just a reprint of something from circa 1987 with no re-editing ro re-writing.
Finally, many of the chapters just read as one big advertisement for this company or that product, much like the current articles in many gun magazines. It is obvious Duncan Long gave glowing reviews of products in exchange for free samples of those products.
In short, this book is a waste of money. If not for the fact it was a present I would probably toss it out. If you want to learn about the AR-15 there are many far better sources in print and on the web.

one of the best super 8 books.......2003-02-28
One of the few books dealing with ALL about super 8 film.
It contains a lot of information:
How to use a super 8 camera (the camera, the lens, the shutter)
how to light for film;
how to handle & how to edit a super 8 film etc.
It also contains very useful and clear information by chapters and also well illustrated. (In B/W photos and GLORIOUS COLOR!
the reprint of this book should be a MUST!.
