No university/college should use this.............2007-08-19
I had to use this book for an online course while earning my bachelor's degree. This book was horrible. This group of 3 authors did not do a good job. The ideas and points did not run smoothly together from one point to another. It seems like the 3 authors did not work very close together to make sure their ideas connected and related directly with each other's ideas. It was as if the authors went from talking about point A, skipping all the way to point F, then going to point C, then back to point F, etc. etc. Their ideas did not flow in an understandable sequence. I also agree about the examples. The examples were no help and they were not thorough examples of material that you would run into the real-world. The examples needed much more details in them.
Huge waste of money.......2007-07-06
Horngren makes a notoriously dry subject even worse. It is filled with long winded verse and practically devoid of dynamic examples. Accounting is something that 'works' and can be worked out. It's best learned when applied to real world situations...this book aims to have you memorize boring definitions and then support those definitions with scarce examples. Even our professor said he's been lobbying to get this book out of my school's curriculum...too bad that didn't happen BEFORE I came along.

I have had experience with accounting and found this book to be fairly basic. However, if you are a beginner with no knowledge of accounting, this is a good textbook. I read one of the other reviews about how there is a bunch of useless junk on each page and while this is partially true, it would be UNBEARABLE to read if there wasn't this so called "junk" on every page. Overall a good textbook that I will keep around as a reference for accounting basics.

I'm a retired teacher who got elected to my local Borough council. I found this book very clear and useful in learning about pensions, even though ours are municipal and it deals with private pensions. Many of the same considerations apply and even the formulas given and explained are not beyond the understanding of a careful general reader.
Less is more.......2000-08-25
this little book taught me in a few hours all hat i needed to know in order to draft my first pension related actuarial report. clear concise and to the point.

This book is a MUST for people who thought they had understood statistics, but need to refresh their knowledge. It is structured as questions and answers throughout, and is easy to comprehend.
I use it as the recommended book for all my "statistics for beginners" classes around the world.

jackaroo is a book that takes place in the middle ages. this book is about a girl gwynn. she lives withher family of her mother,father, and brother tad. she hides a big secret. she is jackaroo. gwynn is becoming of age to marry.she decides to marry a noble man named earl. i would recommend this book to anyone who is about 11 and up and loves suspence

Jackaroo is a very well written book.It is interesting and exciting!!It is obvious that Cynthia,the author, spent a lot of time and energy on small details.These small detais help paint a clear picture of what is happening in the story while reading it.This book is wonderful!!I can't wait to read On fortunes Wheel.It has to be more interesting than Jackaroo, because Jackaroo leaves you hanging in the end when the Earl tries to marry the innkeepers daughter. but still I could read this book over and over & not get tired of it.It tells you alot about life & culture in the middle ages.If you what a good book to read I would really reomend this book!!

The book Jackaroo was a very good book.It was unpredictable.You never knew what was going to happen.The teacher Mrs.Capps always included the class.Although at some points I did not like it.The worst part was when people was trying to be Jackaroo.These are my thoughts about jackaroo.

I read this book after I read On Fortune's Wheel and it made understand a lot better some details of the book, of course it is meant to be read prior to OFW. The book is great. If you love fantasy, adventure and a bit of romance, read this book.
One worth the reading and rereading and rereading...........2005-01-28
Cynthia Voight is an Arachne of storyweaving!
The dusky warmth from a fireplace, seated content of a full stomach after supper... sit back, and succumb to this tale.
Yes, there is adventure, yes there is romance (as in the archaic use), and yes, a hint* of fantasy; but more importantly, this is a tale of and for all ages.
This is what I believe Tolkein loved best... After myth searching, dragon slaying, discovering new languages and worlds, and even after creating history... coming home. The Shire was exactly that.
Jackaroo cannot compare with Tolkein's works in its wide worth on any level, except its author's heart.
That is what this book is to me.
It is not one of sheer thrill, or complexity, or corniness (thank goodness!), but of heart.
And yes, I agree with all those that said it has a taste of Scarlet Pimpernel or Robin Hood... more like the idea of these.
Alright, enough of reading the reviews, go out and read this book! On the the third reading, be sure to gather your children, or your younger siblings, and start making a tradition of reading a chapter after supper... if your family will be patient enough to draw it out that long.
