Did Weber see 9/11 coming?.......2002-12-24

After about 5 years, Weber finally dishes out a fast paced, current events novel. Shockingly, this story sounds close to what is taking place in the world of terrorism today and not so long ago.

Basically, a billionare terrorist in Iran gets weapons help from the Russians, although the Russians do not play much of a role in the main scheme of things. The terrorist organizations in the Middle East have had enough with the U.S. prescence in the Persian Gulf.

With terrorist cells planted in the U.S., the plan of Bassam Shakhar, the head of the Iranian terrorist regime, is to down airlines, and target the president of the U.S., to force American forces from the Gulf.

Meanwhile, a retired CIA/Naval Aviator, and a current CIA operative, get together under orders from the DIA, to extract an operative from the Bekaa Valley, who has inside information on what Shakhar is up to.

A little too late, the cells in the U.S. lead by Khaliq Farkas and Ramazani begin their reign of terror. First, downing an airliner in Dallas, then later, taking control of the communications of the Atlanta ATCC, and sending planes over Hartsfield to the same altitude and position. Air Force One, being one of those planes.

Later, we find out a yacht armed with a nuclear warhead is heading toward D.C. to be detonated.

Scott and Jackie, the agents, mentioned above have to work together to stop these terrorists. Chapter after chapter, Weber's style keeps you reading til the end.

Primary Target.......2001-09-14

I read this book August 29-31, 2001. I thought at the time that that the book's plot to bring down Air Force One by Arab terroists was very ambitious. Then on Sept 11 when the four passenger jets were hijacked and the WTC Towers and Pentagon were hit I shivered at the similarities in the book's plot and the actual events of Sept. 11.

Better than average, but not by much.......2001-04-05

Based upon the recommendations of the previous reviews I picked up this book. While I obviously disagree with most of then - it was better than many "techno-thrillers", so I give it a solid average rating. Not a book you cannot put down, but I did mostly enjoy the ride.

The problems are mostly found in then "supermen" villians and heroes and very predictable plot. The "evil" Soviets teaming with those "evil" Arab terrorists to strike at the heart of a "pure" US President - using a close friend. I would say I don't want to give away the plot, but most people will have read the same thing in so many other books - that I cannot give away anything at all even if I printed the entire book in my review.

An Exciting Book!.......2001-03-14

This is a good book from start to finish. The book begins with the Russians joining forces with the radical mullahs in Iran.An extremely deadly terrorist is turned loose on the United States. He proceeds to spread havoc all over the country. The American President finally gets enough and bombs every terrorist training facility in the world. The villain in this book helps to make this a good read. You will find no one more deadly or coldblooded. He survives every attempt to capture him. He continues pulling one act of terror after the other.This is a hard book to put down. Action packed from start to finish. Read it.

Riveting From Beginning to End.......2000-10-10

Never having read Joe Weber before I was a little dubious about the chance of his stories living up to other techno-military authors. Joe's book was gripping from the beginning page, excellently written with a story line that given todays global issues could certainly become true. Get this book today and you will not be disappointed!

Excellent theory, but techniques are specialized.......2006-04-12

Everyone who thinks he might ever be attacked should read this book, but only if he is prepared to do some work in applying the information to his own way of handling violence. That's because the techniques presented are highly stylized. They look to me like Chinese Kung Fu. So unless you're an active practitioner of, say, Hung Gar, you're not advised to try raising your knee to your chest and kicking someone in the armpit while trying to survive an assault.

Still, the illustrations are useful if you're able to map the techniques to movements you yourself are likely to employ. It's also helpful to imagine using the information armed and unarmed, and against opponents who are either. In other words, to use this book, you have to generalize. If you have to choose only one fighting book, then this isn't it, but I'd still call it essential reading.

Good title, but it could use some help.......2002-08-21

This book was informative, demonstrating seven major targets to the human body. There is an overview of the importance of these target areas ( cervical vertebrae, elbows, knees, ankles, and feet ) from an anatomical perspective. It follows the philosophy of attacking an opponent's weapons before he can use them. Makes perfect sense. Following the anatomical section, there are sections concerning how to disable the various target areas ( at least 3 techniques each ) from a variety of positions. The book is simple but effective. The only problem I have with it is the illustrations. I'm sure the publisher saved money by using these, but at times they are somewhat confusing owing to their crude nature. Interesting and to the point, worth it's small price.

This book must compliment some type of fighting system.......2001-06-07

I would first like to get it clear to everybody that this is NOT a "teach yourself self-defense in 24 hours" book. I strongly recommend that you accompany this book with some type of fighting system. I recommend SCARS, Special Combat Aggressive-Reactionary Systems. Go check out their website....

This book teaches you about certain striking points on a human body that, if you were to correctly strike your opponent on any such striking points, you can easily damage, if not break, those joints of your opponent that are connected to these striking points. I am fairly acquainted with a good deal of the book's mentioned striking points.

The book also reveals applicable techniques that teaches you how to use these striking points to your advantage in the event you are in a fight. For instance, the ankle is a good striking point on your opponent's body. A strong side kick to the ankle is an excellent technique to use if you want to break your opponent's ankle.

Here is one technique that I especially love. It involves killing someone within a few seconds using just your bare hands. This technique is particularly efficient is your opponent sports a ponytail. Buy this book if you want to learn the technique I am referring to.

the book showed me a cuple of ideas and moves i would never have used or thought would might be used on me. Bone breaking is searious businness, but this book can show you how to do it and not get heart yourself. though some of the pictures are rather funny, they show a lot, more than other books.

As a student of Martial Arts this book is the best yet .. it is simple and effective and will work .. For i have studed Isshin-Ryu Karate and Ninjitsu for years (10) and Master Hie Long did his best work on this book a real eye opener . He may be gone from us . but he left a piece of him to help us defend our selves ..

If you enjoyed "The Last Quarry", the current (at this writing) thriller featuring Max Allan Collins' hitman protagonist, you can't go wrong with seeking out this earlier entry in the series. "Primary Target" features everything you expect from Collins: clean, no-nonsense writing, clever plot twists, wry asides (this time about politics), a little sex, and bang-up action. You can find a copy pretty easily through Amazon's network of used-book sellers, and it's worth the effort. Besides, you really have to love a book that honestly asks which is worse, honorable hitmen or crooked politicians.

A terrific hit-man novel.......2006-07-19

Primary Target, first published in 1986, was Max Allan Collins' last Quarry novel until 2006's aptly named The Last Quarry. In this previous entry, Quarry is offered one million dollars to assassinate up-and-coming third-party presidential candidate Preston Freed. When he turns it down -- he is retired, after all -- there are major consequences and Quarry is forced to get back into the business he knows best: killing. Only this time, it's personal.

What results is a wonderfully intricate story where every character is connected to at least one other. Collins stretches out the suspense beautifully and only reveals the connections one by one, as Quarry discovers them himself. Collins' style is engaging as always and Quarry is a fascinating choice for a protagonist, given that he is only ever looking out for himself (although he does show a surprisingly tender side). Primary Target is exceptionally well-crafted, with every piece fitting firmly into place. It also has a perfect ending and is just the right length, coming in at just under 200 pages.

An excellent little thriller.......2000-04-17

A fine entry in an excellent series. And unlike many other series, events in one novel have ramifications in those that follow. Definitely worth buying.

I've not only reviewed this book, I have very critically written it. This is one of the only Coast Guard action packed novels out there. Take a look at it, you won't be disappointed.
