Customer Reviews:
Well Done.......2004-02-02
Customize Your Career by Roz Usheroff is a must read for anyone looking to make sense of today?s job market. Adopting an entrepreneurial approach to marketing your skills is the best way to ensure they will be in demand. Roz not only provides the tools for bringing an individual?s skills and talents to the foreground, but she also provides strategies for demonstrating the value of these gifts to others. This empowering approach to career management shifts the current paradigm from victim to victor.
Customize Your Career will jumpstart 2004 for any buyer.......2004-01-06
Customize Your Career captures the essence of Roz Usheroff. In her successful career as a professional speaker, seminar leader and coach she has truly customized her career and developed and shared her winning strategies. How fortunate we are she has published her findings. This book records the keys to success in business and life she has used so successfully and has taught her legions of clients to employ in their lives.
For the many who have not yet experienced the personal presence of this inspirational speaker, this book is an excellent substitute. The ten chapters are truly ten steps everyone can use "to Move up, Move ahead, or Move on". This on not only a 'must-read' book, it is a 'must-refer-to-often' life guide. You will agree with Nido R. Quebein, who in the foreward urges those who look for fulfillment over mere happiness to "Read this book to learn. Study it to excel. Refer to it often to stay ahead of the crowd".
In today's pressurized world, Customize Your Career will save many people from having to try to re-invent the wheel as they move throuth life.
BEST CAREER STRATEGY BOOK OF THE YEAR!!!.......2003-12-26
Customize Your Career is one of the best books out there written for working professionals looking to move forward in their career. The book has great edutcational content and is written in an entertaining, easy-to-read format. The author, Roz Usheroff, seems to have an incredible grasp of how to develop a professional image and career plan. I enjoyed this book immensely and have recommended it to many friends and colleagues.
Don't Let the Cover Fool You.......2003-12-25
Don't let the cover fool you, Roz Usheroff packs a wallop in this insightful and dynamic read. At first I was skeptical when my Mother sent me this book as a gift to help me achieve my own goals in life. The book style looked like so many others I had seen before, but it was the content of this book which blew me away. Roz does a solid job in outlining all the key characteristics that can help one move to the top in a chosen profession. This book takes a rational, reasoned approach to finding career success. Unlike other books in the same vain, it is not filled with mumbo-jumbo quick-success schemes but rather, identifies what makes one stand out in the crowd without stepping on anyones toes.
My only complaint was the rancid cover. Other than that, this book is a 10/10. In any case, I used Roz's formulaic suggestions and the results have been better than average since I am now in my first managerial position since graduating University 2 years ago. Thanks Roz.
A Must Have Book!!.......2003-12-24
I found plenty of interesting and worthwhile advice in Customize Your Career. Roz offers many new insights, including the fact that marketing yourself doesn't end when you get a new job. In fact, that is just the beginning! Everyone must continually market themselves -- based on their skills, knowledge, and special talent -- whithin their companies and their industries. The book would make a good gift for a friend (or for yourself) who is suddenly looking for a new job. A Must Have Book!!

Genetically modified foods present numerous ethical, environmental, health and legal challenges. This report synthesizes information from many websites, scientific journals, newspapers and books that discuss the controversy surrounding genetically modified foods. The author has attempted to show that although the future applications of agrobiotechnology appear promising, the ways in which it is currently being used and regulated should be evaluated with a healthy degree of skepticism.
Book Description
Could Einstein have possibly anticipated directly testing the most captivating prediction of general relativity, that there exist isolated pockets of spacetime shielded completely from our own? Now, almost a century after that theory emerged, one of the world's leading astrophysicists presents a wealth of recent evidence that just such an entity, with a mass of about three million suns, is indeed lurking at the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way--in the form of a supermassive ''black hole''!
With this superbly illustrated, elegantly written, nontechnical account of the most enigmatic astronomical object yet observed, Fulvio Melia captures all the excitement of the growing realization that we are on the verge of actually seeing this exotic object within the next few years.
Melia traces our intellectual pilgrimage to the ''brooding behemoth'' at the heart of the Milky Way. He describes the dizzying technological advances that have recently brought us to the point of seeing through all the cosmic dust to a dark spot in a clouded cluster of stars in the constellation Sagittarius. Carefully assembling the compelling circumstantial evidence for its black hole status, he shows that it is primed to reveal itself as a glorious panorama of activity within this decade--through revolutionary images of its ''event horizon'' against the bright backdrop of nearby, radiating gas.
Uniquely, this book brings together a specific and fascinating astronomical subject--black holes--with a top researcher to provide both amateur and armchair astronomers, but also professional scientists seeking a concise overview of the topic, a real sense of the palpable thrill in the scientific community when an important discovery is imminent.
Customer Reviews:
Concerning Melia's "Black Hole..".......2006-07-06
The best thing about this book is the series of photos at the beginning which focus in on Sagittarius A*. It is a little thin on theory (purposely); and at the end, he is a little too gung-ho about the ability of science to answer all questions. But in general it is an exciting subject and the author presents it very well.
Very excited about this book.......2004-08-27
This is an exciting book for just about anyone interested in astronomy.
First of all I'd like to express all my admiration, the book is really
wonderfully written, witty, elegant, always
crystal clear and never boring, a real pleasure for the
mind. Second of all it's a real surprise to see how close
astronomers are to actually seeing a black hole. Since things
are changing so fast, does the author plan on writing an updated
edition soon? It seems that a new edition would be necessary
in a few years.
passionate, he is - but it's hard to follow.......2004-05-09
Apparently Sgr A* is shrinking - at various points in the book, it's described as the size of Mars' orbit, the size of Mercury's orbit, and several times the diameter of the Sun. Then there's the "how fast are the nearby stars going", in units of millions of kilometers per hour in one chapter, and kilometers per second in another - unit confusion! It's an enjoyable book, but somewhat choppy in nature - he introduces a segment on Hawking radiation, then mentions that it's totally useless in detection for supermassive black holes. The descriptions of Sgr A* are well done at the various wavelengths and very helpful; the background on why each wavelength conveys certain information was particularly excellent.
Now: why go to Australia to look at the Milky Way?
Fascinating indeed.......2004-02-01
The subject of this book has been one of my abiding interests since high school. My daughter strongly recommended it to me, with the assurance that it contained one of the best descriptions of general relativity for the layman, woven into the captivating story of the black hole at the center of our galaxy. Finally, someone who is directly involved with frontline research on this topic has taken the time to write about it in language that nonexperts can understand. Why is it that others don't do the same?
Amazing Detective Story.......2004-02-01
Hooray for Carolyn Collins Petersen, who wrote a review of this book for the January issue of Sky and Telescope. She absolutely captured the essence of this worthwhile read, and convinced me to pick up a copy of my own. I agree with her assessment wholeheartedly. Melia's book is a detective story, but more than that, it's an up-to-date account of what black hole astronomers are aiming for. The only thing I was somewhat disappointed with was that the last chapter ended too early. The subject of supermassive black holes in general deserves a lengthier discussion.

Product Description
Reviewing the fundamental instrumental techniques and current observational results, this book unveils the mysteries of the physical processes in the central parsec of our Milky Way: the super-massive black hole embedded in a central stellar cluster as well as the gas and dust in the circumnuclear region. The observations described cover the entire electromagnetic spectrum from decimeter radio-waves to high energy X-ray and γ-rays, and a comprehensive summary of up-to-date astrophysical interpretations is given. The emphasis is put on observational techniques, image processing aspects, and a detailed presentation of the most cutting-edge work carried out in the near-infrared wavelength regime. These recent results include both the first orbits of stars around the central black hole and the multiwavelength variability of the central source.

Book Description
Advanced technologies in astronomy at various wavelengths have provided us with high-resolution and high-quality data of the central regions of nearby galaxies and of the Milky Way Galaxy. These data, both for the Galaxy and extragalactic centers, are now quite suitable for detailed comparative study. This IAU symposium was aimed at understanding the general characteristics of dynamics, ISM physics and magnetic fields, activities including inflow and outflow, as well as starburst, in the `galactic centers'. Special attention was also given to several cases for massive black holes in galaxies and the Galaxy, and to understanding the physics of nuclei associated with black holes.

Customer Reviews:
Neat Li'l Reference Book!.......2005-05-13
For what this book is, a handy reference for the best pop albums, this book is super. Right-on picks, covering all the pop music fields, not confined to just one style or category, thoughtful and well-thought-out selections, this book is a perfect bed-side companion or overview of one of the greatest and most creative and varied decades in music. The 60s was a decade where instrumental rock and roll, psychedelia, country, sacred, Herb Alpert, Lawrence Welk, and rock were all found in most record shops at certain periods of time. This book captures that time--and with insight, research and eclectic viewpoints. More detail would be appreciated, along with statistical charts such as "Best-selling", "Grammys won", Grammys nominated", etc., but for what it is---a small volume---this book is a 5 star for enjoyable!
Steer clear of this one.......1998-12-09
Steer clear of this one. Though the choices of albums is fairly good, it is amateurishly written and the contents are hollow, filled with the authors self-indulgence. Tobler does not speculate about the artistic importance of the albums but rather decorates the book with statistics concerning chart placings and so forth. "You don't become a writer by writing a book". This book is a prime example of that statement.

Book Description
Without the advantage of birth or social connections, Horatio Herbert Kitchener rose rapidly in the Army, from obscure subaltern to the most acclaimed soldier in Britain. In August 1914, in the hour of his country’s greatest need, he dutifully responded to the call to serve as secretary for war.
George Cassar’s study focuses on Kitchener’s role in recognizing and framing the larger issues of the war facing his countrymen and the Allies. From the beginning he appreciated the complexities and demands of the global conflict, understanding that it would last at least three years and require the deployment of a mass army. His recruiting campaign, highlighted by the famous poster “Your Country Needs You,” brought in nearly three million volunteers, a feat that no other belligerent nation came close to matching. Kitchener’s strategy was twofold. First, to defeat Germany and preserve Britain’s independ-ence, Kitchener understood that the key to victory was to treat the western and eastern fronts as one. Thus he worked closely with, and supplied armaments to, the Russian army, while pursuing careful attrition in France. His second aim was to enhance the security of Britain and its empire in a postwar world, not just against enemies but also against allies.
Drawing upon a variety of unpublished sources, ranging from government documents to the private papers of leading generals and politicians, the author sheds new light on Kitchener’s controversial role in the Dardanelles campaign and the munitions crisis, his efforts to organize an Arab revolt against Turkey, his supervision of operations in Africa, and his relations with colleagues and Allied leaders. This highly readable book refutes many myths about Kitchener, which his detractors circulated after his death in 1916, and makes a powerful case that without his leadership the Entente would not have won the war.
Customer Reviews:
An superbly researched and meticulously detailed account.......2004-08-08
Kitchener's War: British Strategy From 1914 To 1916 by George H. Cassar (Professor of Military and Modern European History, Eastern Michigan University) is an superbly researched and meticulously detailed account of Horatio Herbert Kitchener who recruited a British force of almost three million men to defeat German's ambitions and defend British interests in the first two years of World War I. To this purpose Kitchener also supplied armaments to the Russian army while pursuing a policy of careful attrition in France. Drawing upon unpublished sources ranging from government documents to private papers of generals and politicians, Professor Cassar brings a fresh and more complete understanding to Kitchener's controversial role in the Dardanelles campaign, the Arab revolt against Turkey, British operations in Africa, and his relations with colleagues and Allied leaders. No personal or academic World War I Military Studies collection can be considered complete or comprehensive without the inclusion of George H. Cassar's Kitchener's War!
