Tops in My Book!.......2000-06-03

I read "The Working Woman's Guide to Retirement Planning" several years ago and was surprised to learn of the many reasons why women need to save for retirement differently from men. I put together my own retirement plan after reading it and now I'm retiring and taking my RV on the road for the next few years. I've read the updated version, "The New Woman's Guide to Retirement Planning," and hope many other women get as much out of it as I did the first one.

As a financial advisor who specializes in working with women, I am so happy to see something for the general consumer that has a lot of meat to it. Usually most of the retirement information gets briefly mentioned and then brushed aside with a note that it's important stuff and you need to understand it--but there's usually no help given on how to understand it! This book provides the help in an easy to read and understand format. Love it!

Planning now to make the most of the years after the 9-to-5.......1999-12-17

The tone of this book is both frank and positive in discussing the reasons working women may have a harder time saving adequately for retirement than men do and showing how women can make the choices now to take this matter into their own hands and solve it. I wanted to skim the book and summarize its high points, but the details were too good and I can only say, if you are a working woman, you will want to read this book now.

This is radiant first book about the ways in which a man is gentled by a growing connection to the earth, to her fruits, and to the order of the seasons.

I have never read a book that made me feel quiet and humble like this book did. The author was very good at description and bringing the reader "into" his life. I went through the highs and lows of being a farmer and a father. Very moving, very enriching, and very memorable.

Vivid and touching.......2002-07-04

This is a wonderful book, beautifully written and immensely touching. The author interweaves vivid descriptions of his farm and its inhabitants -- both past and present -- with his observations on cider-making, the care of apple orchards, his wife's art, and his memories of his late, much-loved daughter. He doesn't gloss over the irony that, after he spent years working on nuclear testing, his daughter should contract breast cancer; but he isn't polemical about it, and by the end of the book his personal tragedy is subsumed into the rhythms of the seasons and the ongoing life of the farm. The timeline of the book is circular -- it's not a straightforward history -- but I felt that this further emphasized the cyclical nature of life in the orchard. I recommend the book unreservedly.

Tender hearted memoir.......2000-09-06

This is a very special tenderly written book about living...loving...working... and dieing. Every one can find something to relate too with Harvey in this book. I would highly reccomend it.
